Program Note Scat was composed for members of the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble. The title comes from Scat singing, a type of vocal improvisation with wordless vocalbles. The piece is inspired by jazz and blues music and incorporates a “cukoo” (the sound of cukoo clock) motive that is passed around and developed through out the ensemble.
