5 WEEK CHURCH FAST MEN’S PRAYER NIGHT REMNANT
SMALL GROUPS
PASTOR’S THOUGHTS SENIOR PASTOR SAM VALVERDE d
TIME TO FAST “Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.” Joel 2:12, 13 FTC has been called to fast in the month of August. We will fast every Sunday in which we will celebrate prayers and services from 6am to 12noon. Each member is invited to fast a day of the week every week. We know that fasting means not to break the fast, or to have breakfast. However, there are other things to consider when fasting. A DIFFERENT APPROACH TO FASTING... Fasts have a tendency to be oriented toward things like giving up food or television. But there are many other creative ways we can welcome Jesus’ healing touch. Here are a few suggestions to consider. 1. FAST FROM ANGER AND HATRED. Give your family and friends an extra dose of love each day. 2. FAST FROM JUDGING OTHERS. Before making any judgments, recall how Jesus overlooks our faults. 3. FAST FROM DISCOURAGEMENT. Hold on to Jesus’ promise that He has a perfect plan for your life. 4. FAST FROM COMPLAINING. When you find yourself about to complain, close your eyes and recall some of the moments of joy Jesus has given you. 5. FAST FROM RESENTMENT OR BITTERNESS! Work on forgiving those who may have hurt you. 6. FAST FROM SPENDING TOO MUCH MONEY. Try to reduce your spending by ten percent and give those savings to others that are less fortunate.
The FTC Small Group Department would like to announce Small Group sign-ups will be held on the last 2 Sundays in the month of August. The final semester for Small Groups this year will start the week of September 7th and will continue through the week of November 16th. We have received a prompting for the necessity of prayer. Prayer is one of only a few things the Bible says that men ought to always do. Jesus said in Luke 18:1, “Men ought always to pray and not to faint.” Many times we have heard it said that we need to pray. Many times we have tried to pray, but possibly not with the fervor or frequency that we should. Let us each ask ourselves, Am I really putting the right emphasize on prayer? Let us examine ourselves to determine if we are fulfilling the calling that Jesus has placed on each of us, and that is to pray. For the entire semester, we will be focusing on the aspects of prayer; what it means to pray, calling to remembrance the importance of prayer, praying in a way that we know that God will hear us. I was once challenged with the concept of prayer. I went to the Lord and I asked him, Lord what is the importance of prayer? And what is it about prayer that you want me to know? The understanding I received was for me, but I want to share it. To pray, is to spend quality time with God; quality time listening to what He has to say, releasing what I feel and embracing what God wants in my life. The Lord also impressed upon me, that what a person does after they pray, will show evidence that they have been in prayer. For example, Jesus went into the Garden of Gethsemane to Pray. His first prayer was, “O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.” Then his prayer became, “O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.” After spending quality time in fervent prayer, Jesus shows a perfect example of complete submission of His will to the Father’s. Through prayer he received strength to go to Calvary. What He did after he got up from praying was evidence, that he had spent time in Prayer. As we look around and see the challenges of life, and there are many challenges that are at war against the Church, let us pray. The Bible says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Saints, let us Pray! The Small Group Department would like to invite you to join with us in this upcoming semester as we focus on prayer. We simply invite you to focus more on prayer, to enter into the presence of God and to pray. Start praying now, so that you will be prepared to serve the Lord with gladness. The FTC Small Group Department looks forward to serving you. Bro. Wendell Wright FOR QUESTIONS REGARDING THE SMALL GROUPS, PLEASE CONTACT BRO. WENDELL & SIS.
