NUMBER FACTS: Make sure your child can: 1. Use mathematical vocabulary for multiplication (see word bank). 2. Recall multiplication facts up to 10x10.

WORD BANK Multiply - times, groups of or lots of. Product - 2 or more numbers multiplied together. Multiples - A number that is a product of another number. Factor - a whole number that divides exactly into another whole number (e.g. 2 and 10 are factors of 20).

GAMES: NUMBER FACTS:

TOP TIPS

You will need:

2 dice. How to play:

1. Roll 2 dice and multiply the totals, the first to answer wins.

U se k n o wn num be r facts e.g If I know 5 x5 = 2 5 then I k now 6x5 = 25+5!

2. Choose a times table, roll both dice to make a 2 digit number e.g. 3 and 6 would make 36. Is your answer in your chosen times table? 3. Roll 3 dice and multiply all 3 numbers, is there just one answer?

CARDS: You will need:

A set of playing cards. How to play:

Shuffle your cards and deal them

you es... can Car gam lates? u m be r p multiply n = 5x6? e.g FE56

equally between players. Each player turns their top card over and multiply both numbers. The first player to say the correct answer wins the cards and keeps the pair.

CALCULATORS: Make sure your child can: 1. Add, subtract, multiply and divide using a calculator (including decimals). 2. Explain the numbers on the display in different contexts e.g. 3.7 could be both 3m & 70cm and ÂŁ3.70.

WORD BANK CE - Clear Entry (clears the last entry). AC - All Clear (totally clears all entries). / - Divide.

GAMES: CALCULATOR WALK You will need:

A calculator (or mobile phone) A shop How to play:

TOP TIPS M os t m o dern p h o n es have a calcula tor!

Take a calculator to the supermarket and add the prices as you shop... Is your total the same as the till?

HIGHER OR LOWER? How to play:

Using the digits 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and the multiplication sign (x) make your own number sentence e.g. 432 x 65. Rearrange the digits to make the highest or lowest possible number.

RECEIPTS You will need:

A calculator (or mobile phone) A receipt from the weekly shop How to play:

Using a till receipt, add all the items on your calculator... Does your total match the receipt? CHALLENGE: Estimate your answer before typing it into your calculator... Are you close?

FRACTIONS: Make sure your child can:

[]

3 . 5 2. Can find simple fractions of shapes. 1. Read and write fractions such as

WORD BANK Fraction - Any part of a group, number or whole. Equal parts - Having the same amount. Numerator - the number ABOVE the line of a fraction. Denominator - the number BELOW the line of a fraction.

GAMES: HOW MUCH?

TOP TIPS

Help your child to spot sale advertisements in newspapers and shops e.g. half price or 20% off.

as 3 ou t o f 5 eq ua l p ar ts.

Can they work out how much they would need to pay?

GRIDS: You will need:

Example:

A 4x4 grid and a pencil. How to play:

Draw a 4x4 grid. In how many different ways can you shade 1/4 (a quarter) of the grid.

READING SCALES: Make sure your child can: 1. Read the scale on a thermometer, a tape measure, weighing scales & a measuring jug. 2. Explain the units used when measuring.

WORD BANK Weight - grams (g) and kilograms (kg). Capacity - millilitres (ml), centilitres (cl) and litres (l). Length - millimetres (mm), centimetres (cm), metres (m) and kilometres (km).

SHAPES: Make sure your child can: 1. Draw and name 2D shapes. 2. Identify different types of angles. 3. Understand ‘parallel’ and ‘perpendicular’.

WORD BANK Parallel - lines that are the same distance apart. Perpendicular - lines that meet at a right angle. Symmetry - when one half is a mirror image of the other. Polygon - a 2D shape with straight sides. (regular - all sides and angles equal and irregular - sides and angles with differing values.

Quadrilateral - a polygon with four sides. Pentagon - a polygon with five sides. Hexagon - a polygon with six sides. Octagon - a polygon with eight sides.

GAMES: KEEP IN SHAPE You will need:

Shapes board, words board, dice and counters. How to play:

Roll the dice on the words board. Choose a shape on the shapes board, justifying the link between the vocabulary and the shape.

TELLING THE TIME: Make sure your child can: 1. Tell the time on analogue and digital clocks. 2. Use am and pm correctly. 3. Read a 24hr timetable.

WORD BANK Analogue - A clock with the numbers 1-12 around the face. Digital - A clock that use numbers only to tell the time.

GAMES: WHAT’S ON You will need:

A TV guide (either in a magazine or on the TV). (There is also an example guide at the back of the book)

How to play:

Ask questions about the guide e.g. 1. How long does ‘Escape to the Country’ last? 2. If I turn over to BBC1 at the end of Emmerdale what programme is on? 3. How much time is spent broadcasting the news on both channels? Ask similar questions using your own TV guide.

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE You will need:

Time board and some scrap paper. How to play:

Each pick a time from the board and secretly write it onto the scrap paper. Count to 3 and both turn over your chosen time. The first person to calcuate the difference between the times gets a point. The first one to 10 points wins.
