Develop the ability to inter-relate the theoretical aspects of Physical Education with practical activity Develop the skills necessary to analyse, evaluate and improve performance Develop scientific, social, moral and cultural issues which affect participation in physical activity Develop planning and practical skills for effective performance and problem solving Provide an experience that can prepare them for both employment or advanced study Develop an understanding of balanced, healthy, active lifestyles

Programme of Study at AS Level and A2 Level AS Unit G451 - An introduction to Physical Education 1 Anatomy & Physiology 1 Acquiring Movement Skills 1 Socio-Cultural Studies Examined with one exam paper Unit G452 Students will be assessed in two activities They will also evaluate their performance and then plan for improvement in one of their chosen activities A2 Unit G453 1 Socio-cultural action – history of sport 1 Scientific option – Sports Psychology Exercise & Sport Physiology Examined with one paper – 2 ½ hours Unit G454 Candidates will be assessed in one practical activity. They will also evaluate their performance and plan for improvement.

Who the course is aimed at? Students who have a good practical background in Physical Education and an interest in the theoretical side. The course is ideal preparation for further study to degree level in either Physical Education or Sports Science. It would also support careers in Sports Development, the Fitness Industry or Teaching/Coaching sports.
