Celebrating our Graduates by Dana Durman Director of Communications As May came to a close, we saw some of our youth mark a milestone in their life - high school graduation. While this can be a bittersweet transition, it is also a time that their achievements and accomplishments are celebrated. The FPC graduates for 2018 include: Charley Ross Ainsworth: Charley Ross is a graduate of Bishop TK Gorman High School in Tyler. He will attend the University of Texas at Austin in the fall, focusing on the Plan II Honors Program. At Gorman, Charley Ross was elected senior class president, received the Christus Award, an AP scholar, and served as chaplain and captain of the varsity football team. The son of Jennifer and Charley Ainsworth, Charley Ross has an interesting hobby — he grows bonsai trees and has a mini-forest of them in his room! Cameron Elise Humphress: The daughter of Tony and Sara Humphress, Cameron is an honors graduate of Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse. A fan of superhero movies, Cameron plans to attend the University of Texas at Arlington, majoring in nursing.

Hanna Margaret Leach: The daughter of Jeff and Pam Leach, Hanna Meg is a graduate of Bishop TK Gorman High School in Tyler. She received the Christus Award, is an academic allstate swimmer. She was on the principal’s honor roll, a member of the national honor society, captain of the varsity girls’ swim team, biology club president and served as junior homecoming princess. Hanna Meg has been accepted to Grove City College in Pennsylvania where she will major in Conservation Biology. Allison Anne Wallace: The daughter of Jeff and Florrie Wallace, Allie graduates from Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler where she was awarded her Cosmetology License by State of Texas, won third place in the Cosmetology Quiz Bowl, and was named most improved band member. Allie plans to attend Tyler Junior College, majoring in general studies. In congratulating our graduates, we also pray for their continued success. Completing high school is an achievement that they should be proud of and we wish them more great journeys in their college life!

CO NGR E GAT I O NAL N E WS We Are Thankful!

PRAYERFULLY SPEAKING from the FPC Prayer Team

We are thankful for Jim Post. Jim has served on the Board of Deacons and currently serves as an Individually Commissioned Deacon. While on the Board, he not only served as the Scribe, taking minutes, but also coordinated the Card Ministry, writing thoughtful notes to members unable to attend worship. Jim regularly visits some of our home bound members, and just as in the card ministry, is known to go above and beyond to show the love of Christ to those he visits. Jim, we are we blessed to have you! Thank you!

In Psalm 13 David prays to God for rescue from his “enemy.” Author Bill Crowder says that David complains about God’s seeming lack of response, and this is found in David’s repeated question, “How long?” Then Crowder goes on to say, “As David reflects on God’s past expressions of faithful love (v. 5), he finds reason to trust God even in his confusion and doubt. The closing note of praise (v. 6) expresses that trust -- and anticipates God’s rescue.

Membership Updates New Members Join us in welcoming our newest members: • Freida Parker • Diane Sadler

When overwhelmed with the circumstances of life, do you find yourself wondering where God is? As you reflect on God’s faithfulness to you in the past, it can remind you that He is worthy of your trust...”

Our Graduating Seniors

Congratulations to FPC’s 2018 high school graduates (from left): Charley Ross Ainsworth, Cameron Humphress, Hanna Meg Leach and Allie Wallace.

Pat Cryer Awarded Presbyterian Women Honorary Life Membership The Presbyterian Women’s Honorary Life Membership was presented to Pat Cryer during the 11 a.m. worship service on Sunday, May 13. Pat has served on the PW Coordinating Committee in many capacities and has been active in other areas of church and community for many years. She possesses the qualities of those deserving this honor and Pat received a pin (shown right) with symbols representing these qualities: The caring, supportive hands represent women who seek to build an inclusive community of Presbyterian Women. The leaf represents growth of our personal and corporate response to Jesus Christ as we nurture our faith. The dove indicates our work for peace in our own lives and throughout the world, shown in the globe. At the center of the design is the cross, by which our sins are forgiven and we are freed to live in Christ who is at the center of our lives. The overall design is of a butterfly, a symbol of newness in Christ and the emergence of a new creation. 3

PATH (People Attempting To Help)

Sewing Bees — Sewing with a Mission

Throughout the warm weather months, PATH is collecting new box fans to give to people in need. Not only do the fans help people stay cool, but they can cut utility costs. You may donate a fan in one of two ways. At Home Depot, simply tell a cashier you’d like to buy a fan for PATH. You will be charged a discounted price of $10, and the fan will be set aside for a PATH representative to pick up. It’s that easy! If you prefer, you can send a check to PATH and mark “Fan Drive” in the memo line. Visit tylerpath.org or call (903597-4044) for more information.

Sewing Bees will not meet again until the fall except on an “as needed” basis. We are between projects but will always fill any needs that may come up. Group contact is Mollie Bobo (903-530-2772).
