Wear parts within the ABDS 4 The multi-ribbed belt Transfers power from the crankshaft pulley to all belt-driven accessories. Gates strongly advises inspecting the belt at each service interval.
5 The tensioner Maintains the correct tension on the belt. If the belt tension is too low, the belt will slip causing noise, extremely high temperatures and premature belt wear. If the tension is too high, this will cause excessive wear to the belt and belt-driven accessories.
6 The idler Is a free-spinning wheel around which the belt travels to optimise belt routing and minimise belt flutter. The most common issue with idler pulleys is misalignment, which is also the main cause of premature belt failure.

7 The torsional vibration damper (TVD) Absorbs vibrations from the crankshaft and extends the lifespan of the belt and belt-driven components. A worn TVD cannot properly dampen vibrations, compromising the lifespan and performance of engine accessories.
8 The overrunning alternator pulley (OAP) Allows the alternator to “free-wheel” or “overrun” every time the engine decelerates. A damaged OAP cannot effectively dampen vibrations nor properly transmit power to the alternator compromising the lifespan of other ABDS components and engine accessories.
