Carrollton’s Bentley and Dodd selected to NBC’s top team Deitz, Robinson, Warner make second team; Tranter, Davis, Leggett tagged honorable mention The Northeastern Buckeye Conference football coaches met recently and selected their 2013 All-NBC teams. Carrollton had two players earn All-NBC first team, senior nose tackle Austin Bentley and junior running back Tyler Dodd. The Warriors had three players earn second team honors - junior quarterback Zade Deitz, sophomore linebacker Brody Robinson and senior wide receiver Adam Warner. Receiving honorable mention were seniors Lynk Tranter, running back, and Kurt Davis, offensive line, and junior linebacker Trenton Leggett. Minerva placed four players on the first team - senior offensive lineman Harrison Hoppel, junior running back Dalton Hartshorn, senior lineman Mason Butler and senior running back Cody Parrish. Carrollton boys soccer wraps up 2013 at post season banquet The Carrollton High School boys soccer team wrapped up its season last Monday with their annual banquet held in the High School cafete-

ria. Special Awards and varsity letters were awarded to team members by head coach Larry Devine.

Malvern’s Cobin Plessinger named IVC Player of the Year; Hornet coach Todd Shadle is top coach The Inter-Valley Conference coaches met recently and selected their All-IVC teams. In football, Malvern, the IVC champions, had six p l a y e r s named to the IVC first team. Hornet senior running back Cobin Plessinger was voted as the IVC Player of the Year and first-year head coach Cobin Plessinger Todd Shadle received Coach of the Year honors. Plessinger, who is also a 4.0 student, set a new Malvern single-season rushing mark of

Maddie Dunlap named Co-Runner of the Year by Eastern District coaches

Kyle West rolls a history making 854 at Carroll Lanes! November 7 is a night Kyle West will remember for a very long time. Bowling in the Thursday Night Civic Men’s League at Carroll Lanes, West rolled his first 800 series – an 854. It was also the highKyle West est series ever rolled at Carroll Lanes. He not only broke the old record, he shattered it. The old high-series of 812 has stood for so long nobody knows how long. “It been a long time, maybe 10 or 15 years,” said John DeFord, owner of Carroll Lanes. West, who has been bowling for 14 years, said, “I was really excited, I knew I would need six or seven strikes to get it. When I did, I just wanted to see how far I could get it up there.”

Also being named to the first team were wide receiver Mitchell Haasz, quarterback Trey Tucci and linemen Darren Wartluft and Eddie Zinn-Turner. Earning second team honors were Austin Volino, Anthony Ruegg and Jalen Graves. Honorable mention honors went to John Film and Evan Kocher. Sandy Valley placed five players on the first team, seniors Nate Shepler, Logan Trbovich, Andrew Lancaster and Jake Geiger and junior Lucas Dieffenbaugher. Second team honors went to Logan Stallman, Jaret Oliver and Brandon Murphy. Receiving honorable mention were Mike Cunningham and Avery Elifritz. Malvern golfer Noah McKinney was named to the IVC first team, while Mitchell Loomis was second

team and Cameron Glick gained honorable mention. Sandy Valley had two players named to the second team in Alex Orlando and Joe Bartholomew and Aaron Janson was named honorable mention. In volleyball, the Hornets’ Sara Loomis received first team honors, while Amanda McCann was second team and Morgan Oldack gained honorable. For Sandy Valley, Victoria Eyster was named first team, Abbie Hughes second team and Rilee Bowling honorable mention. In cross country, Sandy Valley had two boys earn second team honors - Corbin Brown and Luke Sommer. On the girls side, Andra Lehotay is a first team selection and Chloe Thomas and Taylor Miracle are second teamers. Sandy Valley Maddy Russell earned first team for gold and Ali Hayhurst to the second team.

Receiving Special Awards were Austin Keefer, Most Valuable Player; Mason Pasiuk, Coaches Award; Ashton Coad, Most Improved; Sam Dowell, Heart and Hustle Award; Matt Borland, Best Forward; Jerry Jones, Best Mid Fielder, and Cameron Haught, Best Defender. Earning their fourth year letters were Dowell and Jones. Receiving their third year varsity letters were Borland, Jonathan Atkinson, Christopher Kugler, Austin Bregenzer, Keefer and Anthony Vance. Getting their first year letters were Kody Bennett, Bryan Carrick, Pasiuk, Jeff Philo, Cole Brady, Coad and Kyle Snider. Earning All-Northeastern Buckeye Conference honors were Dowell, first team; Keefer, second team; Borland and Haught, honorable mention. Being honored for their work in the classroom as well as on the field were Atkinson, Haught, Bregenzer, Coad and Pasiuk. Each earned All-NBC Scholar Athlete Awards for carrying a 3.4 grade point average and earning a varsity letter. The Warriors had three players named to the All-Eastern District team, - Keefer, Dowell and Jones. Dowell and Jones participated in the Eastern District All-Star game as members of the East squad.

Eastern District Cross Country coaches have selected their all district team. Carrollton freshman Maddie Dunlap was named the Division II Co-Runner of the Year along with Dover’s Olivia Warther. Carrollton seniors Naomi Young and Taylar Bennett and freshman Hailey Wells also earned district honors. The Lady Warriors had an excellent season. They won the Northeastern Buckeye Conference championship, placed first at the Cambridge District meet, and fourth at the Pickerington regional to earn a trip to the state meet where they placed 12th overall. Also being named to the team was Sandy Valley’s Andra Lehotay. For the Carrollton boys, John Brown, Joey Knipp and Cole Lovett were voted to the boys team.

Jones and Dowell contribute in Eastern District East team All-Star game 4-3 win Carrollton seniors Jerry Jones (left) and Sam Dowell represented Carrollton in the annual Eastern District All-Star soccer game Nov. 3 at St. Clairsville as members of the East team. The East defeated the West 4-3. Warrior head coach Larry Devine said each made big contributions in the win. The East scored off a service from the corner by Dowell and Jones cleared a potential game tying kick late in the game.

Northeastern Buckeye Conference first teamers honored at fall banquet The Northeastern Buckeye Conference held its annual fall banquet recently at Skyland Pines in Louisville to honor those athletes named to All-NBC first teams. The Warriors won three league championships this fall in boys golf, girls cross country and volleyball. Carrollton had 13 athletes earn first team honors. They are pictured from left to right.
