A few words about our History,

and the Values we inherited.

A short history of 3 generations

Guido de Majo

Lucio de Majo

Francesco de Majo

Guido de Majo was a young army officer from Naples who had been practicing his profession in Venice, where he met and married Irma Costantini.

1947

He felt something big was bound to happen in his beloved island, a feeling which prevented him to move back to Naples. To some extent Guido was a dreamer, a visionary. A man who was about to leave a mark in the history of Murano glass, thanks to his intuition. Glass is what he was fascinated by, a malleable yet fragile solid that shone bright into the homes of thousands. It was only when he met another young man, a master glassworker Malvino Pavanello, that his vision grew into something palpable. He puts his own profession on the line, leaves the army, and opens a production line in the island of Murano together with Pavanello. That day, in January 1947, Guido founded a company that would then blow up to a scale beyond his imagination. Guido in his first chandelier workshop. The business started off as a local distributor of artistic Murano glass items.

Today I would like to tell a story about the values that I have inherited from my family, my roots. A journey through time that narrates the pride we take in what we do. - Francesco de Majo

Celebrating a 70 year tradition

•1947•

“de Majo & Pavanello” glassmaking factory is born with a 10-year contract.

•1957•

Guido founds “G. de Majo” individual company, which grows quickly into an industry.

•1958• •1960• •1964• •1967•

The design movement in Italy is something that the company cannot ignore, de Majo is now mainly producing “modern” lighting.

de Majo is now exporting. The first destinataries are in Israel, Persia, Malta.

The company blows up in proportion. The socio-economic context in Italy allows de Majo to reach the astounding number of 200 employees.

de Majo has now an established stylistic approach. Technology offers infinite design opportunities. The company slowly becomes a brand.

Artistic Excellence Born as an artistic Murano glass factory, de Majo is faithful to it’s heritage of hand-made decorative product. The chandeliers of today preserve the original recipe for the clearest and most precious glass in the market. Every piece that comes out of our factory has a label that certifies the authenticity. Our workers are true artists, who thrive to deliver authentic masterpieces.

Authentic Manufacturing Tradition Our glassblowers work in a dedicated environment, where they practice a profession that has been passed onto them by their fathers. They are provided with the best machinery and tools: a thousand year old job which lives in the present. The improved production machinery and modern techniques allow glass-blown objects to be more available than in the past, without being mass-produced.

•1969• •1973•

Lucio de Majo receives a letter from his father, asking him to take part in the management of de Majo. Lucio proudly accepts. After a rapid expansion, de Majo is faced with the oil crisis. However thanks to management choices, production gets back on track stronger than before. “Vetreria de Majo” is the new name of the business.

•1979•

The premature death of Guido shakes the glassmaking world. Father of four, his legacy lives onto this day.

•1985•

New glassblowing techniques are developed. de Majo now exports in most europe and most importantly in the USA.

•1988•

A revolutionary collection of glass objects is designed in collaboration with Yoici Ohira, an experience that would change Lucio’s vision on modern design.

•1992•

de Majo enters with great fortune into the markets of Russia and the Middle East.

•1998•

de Majo is now a majorly recognised glassmaking brand. There is a great comeback of the traditional Venetian chandelier.

Leading Italian Design “Made in Italy does not mean that a product is only made in Italy. We believe that the Italian sensibility for design has to be concieved within a world-class standard of leading lifestyle. This is the reason why we work only with Italian designers. It is our duty to select carefully each proposal, making sure it does represent the values of our brand, without limiting the creativity of the designer. This allows us to deliver harmonic authenticity in every piece. Worldwide Presence Actions speak louder than words. If this is the case, then it should be easy to understand how much de Majo cares about customer satisfaction. Our production is today exported in over 90 countries. We follow our client’s needs, and assist them in every step of their journey with us: from the purchase to the assembly.

The new millennium brings a new enthusiasm to the company, which starts a series of special chandeliers to celebrate each year. An efficient and talented design team is now dedicated to the growing customer need of custom-made light appliances. Tailor made chandeliers are now the true strength of the company. There is a huge shift from traditional lighting to an early LED technology. LED takes over the lighting industry, and de Majo embraces this shift thanks to a creative team that is able to blend tradition with cutting-edge technology. de Majo has by now an extensive portfolio of custom creations, including world-record projects.

Francesco de Majo enters the company as a designer, determined to bring a new wave of modernity to strengthen the brand. The heritage lives on, proudly brought forward by the de Majo family. Paola Brunello, wife of Lucio is now the CEO.

Brand ethos The brand DE MAJO represents a certain kind of stylish Italian living, enriched with a strong ethos, which preserves values and even techniques from the past. Our stylistic timelessness is represented through all of our products. Our distinctive trait however, is that we value Sign more than Design. The original sketch is the most spontaneous, therefore we give it very high regard. The scaffolding that happens around it during the engineering process is explicitly meant to give our final design a sense of effortlessness. The Sign is kept intact, preserving that initial enthusiasm into each of our pieces.
