Sport Clubs

Each club is comprised of individuals with a desire to compete or participate in a sport throughout their college careers and exist to develop students’ skills, dedication and interest for specific sports. Each club’s level of activity is unique and ranges from regional to national intercollegiate competition.

Sport Clubs continue to grow primarily due to strong student leadership, which is just one of a variety of life skills that students can develop through their participation with Campus Recreation. Each club is represented on the UNL Sport Clubs Council and is a member of a recognized National Governing Sport Body.

Bike Maintenance skills series

Rule the Road

Ever been stuck on the trail or street and not know what to do? Sign up for this class and practice basic maintenance items you can do on your own bike to get home and discuss other biking related topics. A new topic will be presented each class night. Topics that will be covered include patching a flat, basic brake and derailleur adjustments, riding position/bike fit and layering for winter commuting enjoyment.

Even though Lincoln and UNL are dv e nationally-recognized as “bike friendly,” ntur es taking to the road on your bike can still seem intimidating. We get that it can be overwhelming. Take some time and invest in gaining the skills and confidence to ride as a commuter. As part of this 4-hour course, we will cover the “need to know” skills to riding in Lincoln: bike handling drills, biking in traffic, rules of the road, and making sure your bike is up for the task.

Get out and enjoy Lincoln by bike and get free ice cream! This is a fun, casual ride to get to know your fellow students and learn more about the Outdoor Adventures program. Students are allowed to enroll in one free ride per semester. Bike helmet and bike rental included.

A Start Smart Program A nationally-recognized sports program, the Start Smart programs offered by Campus Recreation will introduce your 3–5-year-old to the wide world of sports. Tasks involving basic motor skills help build your child’s confidence and self-esteem. The environment of this program offers children a positive experience early in their sports exposure and will help to prepare them to play sports in the future. Emphasis on winning is minimal and this program allows your child to progress at an individual rate while still offering challenging skills.

Sports Development This program focuses on the basic skills needed for sports including throwing, catching, kicking and batting. Tuesdays | January 26–March 1 5:30–6:30 p.m. | Recreation & Wellness Center Registration Deadline: Friday, January 22 $55 UNL student or CREC member $65 General Public
