Welcome!
Beginning in the early 70s, the staff of the Outdoor Adventures Program have made it their chief purpose to embolden others in search of adventure. Whether making it to the top of one of our climbing walls, a personal commitment to commuting by bike, or finding the edge of your comfort zone on an adventure trip, we are here to get you what you need to make it happen. If you need gear, instruction, or the community, we have you covered. We are the stories from which memories are made and the moments from which lifelong skills are learned. We embrace education, enjoyment, & escape and are here to enhance your experience while at the university. Below, you’ll find a scale to help you explore which options best fit what you are seeking. Douglas Copeland says, ‘adventure without risk is merely Disneyland.’ We hope you’ve come to UNL to truly push what you can be in this next chapter. We encourage you to take that risk, put yourself out there and join others in this adventure.
GET STARTED & TRY IT OUT
VENTURE ON YOUR OWN
Try these low-commitment, low-investment options to have the life-changing experiences of a longer trip in an abbreviated timeframe. You’ll learn new skills, meet new friends and maybe find a hobby for a lifetime.
Whether you’re a novice or pro, gain a little experience in the field and meet some new people. We believe the best adventures are those that connect us to something bigger.
+ EDUCATION We believe strongly in the positive side effects of adventure and use them to enhance the educational experience in our community. Adventure invites us to be more fully engaged in the experience and encourages us to challenge our preconceived notions of ourselves and others. Regardless of the outcome, adventure offers a powerful tool for learning in its many forms.
+ ESCAPE In the midst of adventure, we are allowed to leave behind the stress and load of life on campus. In that freedom, we are more able to connect–often returning ready to take on the work of our day-to-day lives.
+ ENJOYMENT EMBARK ON ADVENTURE
Let’s take things up a notch. These are good options when you have more time to invest in an experience you’ll never forget. Don’t worry – you don’t need to be a pro to try these out, just come with an open mind, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
Cheers,
Jordan Messerer

Rule the Road skills clinic
Bike Maintenance skills class
Even though Lincoln and UNL are nationally-recognized as “bike friendly,” taking to the road on your bike can still seem intimidating. We get that it can be overwhelming. Take some time and invest in gaining the skills and confidence to ride as a commuter. As part of this 4-hour course, we will cover the “need to know” skills to riding in Lincoln: bike handling drills, biking in traffic, rules of the road, and making sure you bike is up for the task.
Ever been stuck on the trail or street and not know what to do? Sign up for this class and practice basic maintenance items you can do on your own bike to get home and discuss other biking related topics. A new topic will be presented each class night. Topics that will be covered include patching a flat, basic brake and deraileur adjustments, riding position/bike fit and layering for winter commuting enjoyment.
