HAIRRAISING EVENT?

Award Winning hair salon Wigs and War-paint celebrate their 10th Anniversary and what better way than to collaborate with the students of Sheffield Hallam University, new up and coming fashion designers and small charity, Smile at Light Wood. Saturday night, Wigs and Warpaint celebrated their 10th year anniversary and took to the Sheffield Hallam student Union in collaboration with the university students themselves. The guests seemed to be enjoying the atmosphere of the neon tribal themed venue where they were handed gift bags and a glass of champagne on arrival. Cocktails and on-tap beer were flowing and the free cupcakes were eyeing me up from the top of the bar, no one can resist free cakes! When I first heard the theme for the event was ‘Neon Tribal,’ I wasn’t quite sure what I was expecting - first thoughts that came to mind were ‘tacky’ and ‘unoriginal’ – and I still wasn’t quite convinced when I arrived. Hanging from the ceiling were the bright and outstanding posters from the fashion management students alongside… “are those Chinese lanterns?” Unsure of whether they fit the theme entirely or not, I went along with it anyway, sipping on champagne and searching through my gift bag to find miniature hair products and discount vouchers. I was happy with that.

As the lights dimmed and the dancers took the stage, the audience wooed and danced alongside them. I must say myself, the dancers made the show with their bold and sassy moves and impressive theme-fitting hair. As for the makeup, it was quite minimal and disappointing, I expected more from the salon professionals to be honest. The night continued on with fashion show after fashion show with more and more fantastic hair styles and outfits to exhibit to the audience. With the help of the SHU students, Wigs and Warpaint seemed to pull off their ‘event of the year.’ Even with their lack of organisation the guests all seemed to enjoy themselves as they drank and partied with each other into the early hours of Sunday morning.
