Animation 2020 - 2021 English version

Editorial For France TĂŠlĂŠvisions, reaching out to children, and maintaining and nurturing our connection with the next generation is a key objective, which is clear in our strong commitment to animation.

This is why I have undertaken to increase our investment in animation until 2022 and pledged in January to ensure that the number of hours dedicated to animation remains very high as part of our linear broadcasting. In both our linear and digital spheres, this connection is fostered chiefly through the success of Okoo – the benchmark brand for children’s programming. With a plentiful digital offer suitable for the whole family, we have risen to the challenge of becoming the best digital platform for children and parents alike. We owe our success to the youth programming team at France Télévisions and to our digital teams. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate them and thank them for their hard work. I would also like to thank the producers and writers who put their trust in us and helped us to achieve this feat.

Our commitment to animation does not stop at children’s programming. I firmly believe that it is a genre for everyone. With the support of public service broadcasting, French animation continues to stand out as a leader in the field worldwide. It is a clear testament to French editorial creativity and enhances the influence of our creative industry. Nothing should be taken for granted and much remains to be done if we are to continue upholding our editorial vision and adapting to new viewing habits, but it is undeniable that with your talent and imagination, we will go on achieving great things in animation. More than ever, you can count on France Télévisions.

This film tells its story and inscribes it in the history of eugenics, from its origins to its contemporary resurgence.

One of our goals is to ensure that every child is offered content which is suitable for their age and maturity. The success of our pre-school offer is largely down to that objective. France Télévisions is a partner of the new Annecy Festival Residency

«

Writing, reflecting, wavering between different ideas, taking the time to think - we all need to go through this process to allow a creative project to emerge! France Télévisions is delighted to be involved with this Annecy Festival residency project. It will give our group the opportunity to meet new artists and perhaps get the ball rolling on new feature-film projects, which are always marathons rather than sprints, in the coming years. We are supporting French creation now more than ever before, and especially in the animation sector. Encouraging and meeting new talents remains a central part of the creativity cycle. Graphic Development for Feature-Length Animated Films From 5 April to 27 June 2021 France Télévisions is supporting the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in the creation of a graphic development residency for feature-length animated films. A key stage in the filmmaking process, translating a script into images requires a great deal of care and attention. Just like when shooting real images for a film, it is regarded

as an essential part of directing which establishes the coherence and rhythm of the film. “Graphic development” includes all the steps taken by the filmmaker to construct the graphic universe and the visual progression of the film: shot breakdown and progression, thumbnail sketching, storyboard, animatics, etc. The goal is to produce an accurate framework of all the sequences which will make up the final film. The residency is therefore positioned between the end of the writing stage and the start of the production stage, a perfect opportunity to dedicate time to creating, reflecting on and cultivating graphic ideas. As a signatory of the 50/50 Charter, CITIA will ensure compliance with the principles of equality. A fertile environment The residency will be based at the Papeteries ‒ Image Factory, a flagship venue for digital images

in the Annecy area. Residents will benefit from calm surroundings conducive to creativity, and the location’s unique dynamism created by the healthy competition among the outstanding animation studios, professionals and teams on-site, including Caribara, Full Story, Gobelins AP3D, Afrika Toon, In the Box, TNZPV Annecy and Les Indiscrets to name but a few. The residency is awarded to a project. It will be up to the director to decide who in their team would benefit the most from this creative opportunity (the director, the storyboarder, a partner graphic designer, etc.). The mentoring will be provided in French or English only, according to the nationality of the residents. CITIA will take care of the organisation of the residency beforehand and will ensure that it runs smoothly. As part of its cultural and artistic work with schools, CITIA may request that the

resident provides assistance during support sessions, meetings or other types of participation. The Annecy International Animated Film Festival will enable the beneficiaries to take advantage of its network, ensuring that the residents receive high quality support and are teamed up with outstanding mentors: Benjamin Renner, Jérémy Clapin, Florence Miailhe, Sébastien Laudenbach, Éléa Gobbé-Mévellec and Benjamin Massoubre. Submissions will be accepted from June 2020 until 30 August 2020. The recipients will be announced in October 2020 for a residency from 5 April to 27 June 2021. Find out more:
