CASANOVA, HISTOIRE DE MA VIE

Avec la publication de ses Mémoires, Histoire de ma vie, Giacomo Casanova (1725-1798) devient, au XIXe siècle, un mythe universel. De Stendhal à Aragon, de Comencini à Fellini et jusqu’aux auteurs de bande dessinée, l’aventurier vénitien,

qui fut tour à tour abbé, soldat, violoniste, espion, entrepreneur ou escroc, fascine. Pourtant, son autobiographie fut longtemps censurée, et son auteur réduit à une unique facette de sa personnalité : le libertin. En s’appuyant sur la dernière période de sa vie, durant laquelle il coucha sur papier ses aventures, ce film s’interroge sur ce destin d’exception et réhabilite l’écrivain comme l’un des plus grands du siècle des Lumières. Malgré cela, la rupture entre les deux n’a jamais été consommée. Il s’apprête à ouvrir de nouvelles salles pour accueillir le département des arts de l’Islam. Pour présenter les milliers d’œuvres issues de treize siècles d’histoire et de trois continents, il a fallu recouvrir une cour, construire un bâtiment, repenser la circulation des visiteurs…

Au milieu du chantier, la conservatrice en chef, Sophie Makariou, et son équipe emmènent le téléspectateur dans les archives, aux côtés des architectes muséographes qui réfléchissent à la disposition des vitrines, dans une salle des ventes lors de l’acquisition d’une pièce importante ou bien en plein cœur du Caire médiéval. Une chance précieuse de découvrir les œuvres comme on ne les voit jamais, mais aussi l’occasion de faire connaissance avec une civilisation lumineuse, majeure et méconnue.

Depuis quinze ans, les demandes de restitution d’œuvres ne cessent de s’amplifier. En tête du mouvement des protestataires, Zahi Hawass, ministre des Antiquités égyptiennes. Il a déjà organisé une conférence réunissant les pays du Sud qui se dressent face aux musées du Nord. Le buste de Néfertiti, la pierre de Rosette, le Zodiaque de Dendérah et bien d’autres

œuvres sont ainsi revendiquées par leur pays d’origine. Selon la législation française et au nom du principe d’inaliénabilité, aucune œuvre ne peut être restituée à un pays qui en fait la demande. Pourtant, en acceptant de rendre aux Néo-Zélandais une tête maorie exposée depuis cent cinquante ans dans son établissement, le directeur du muséum d’histoire naturelle de Rouen a ouvert une brèche. Le documentaire propose un état des lieux de ces demandes de restitution et s’appuie sur des interviews de spécialistes des musées.

Laisser son empreinte, sa trace. Inscrire son nom dans l’histoire. Les présidents de la Ve République française ont voulu, chacun à leur manière, incarner la grandeur de la France en faisant édifier dans la capitale d’imposants monuments pour la postérité. Quand Georges Pompidou témoignait de son amour pour l’art

contemporain en faisant construire Beaubourg, Valéry Giscard d’Estaing, lui, transformait la gare d’Orsay en musée et initiait des projets d’envergure : l’Institut du monde arabe ou la Cité des sciences et de l’industrie. François Mitterrand marquera lui aussi Paris de son empreinte avec des projets pharaoniques : la Grande Arche de la Défense, le ministère des Finances, mais aussi, bien sûr, le Grand Louvre et la Très Grande Bibliothèque. Dans deux autres volets, le musée des Beaux-Arts de Limoges dévoilera l’histoire des Béatitudes, œuvre en huit panneaux de Maurice Denis, ainsi que celle de la Plaque du Laocoon, de Pierre Courteys.

UN FILM & SON ÉPOQUE IL ÉTAIT UNE FOIS… « VOL AU-DESSUS D’UN NID DE COUCOU »

Adapté d’un best-seller de Ken Kesey, Vol audessus d’un nid de coucou raconte l’histoire de Randle McMurphy, campé par Jack Nicholson, qui se fait interner dans un hôpital psychiatrique pour échapper à la prison. Face à l’agressive 17

infirmière Ratched et s’insurgeant contre les règles établies, il décide de révolutionner l’asile. Sorti le 19 novembre 1975, en première mondiale à New York, le deuxième film réalisé sur le sol américain par Milos Forman est un triomphe. Il rafle cinq Oscars en 1976 et permet à son réalisateur de devenir l’un des plus grands cinéastes américains de son époque. De nombreux témoignages de ceux qui ont contribué à la création de ce chef-d’œuvre apportent un éclairage précis sur l’atmosphère du tournage.

EMPREINTES Pour la cinquième saison de la collection Empreintes, de nombreuses personnalités ont ouvert leurs portes aux réalisateurs et aux réalisatrices qui les ont sollicitées. Cette année, Maryse Condé, Jacques Delors, Sophie Calle, William Christie, Michel Butor, Georges Lautner, Jean-Jacques Sempé, Hubert Reeves, Francine Leca ou encore Pierre Arditi ont accepté de se livrer à la caméra. Initié en 2007, ce projet audiovisuel d’envergure porté par France 5 et Annick Cojean, directrice de la collection, poursuit, cette année encore, le même objectif : proposer aux téléspectateurs des 52 minutes avec des personnalités françaises ou francophones qui marquent notre époque et qui transmettent le sens de leurs engagements.

La consommation d’alcool n’est pas une spécificité de l’espèce humaine. Des spécialistes américains et anglais viennent d’en apporter la confirmation : l’éthanol fait partie du menu de nombreux animaux. Depuis quelques années, les nouveaux axes de

recherche scientifique sur les relations animauxalcool, qu’il s’agisse de biologie évolutive ou de génétique, tendraient à démontrer que la relation homme-alcool, voire l’alcoolisme, puiserait ses racines dans les comportements de nos ancêtres animaux ou hominidés. De l’Europe à l’Afrique, du Japon à la Californie et à la Malaisie, ce film présente ces nouvelles études scientifiques qui pourraient ouvrir des voies originales dans la prévention et le traitement de l’alcoolisme.

Les animaux font partie des « outils » quotidiens des instituts de recherche médicale, des laboratoires pharmaceutiques, de virologie ou de toxicologie : une réalité source de débats passionnés entre les défenseurs de la cause animale et les tenants du « sacrifice nécessaire aux progrès de la science ».

Parallèlement, l’avancée des connaissances et des technologies a permis d’envisager et de mettre au point, peu à peu, des méthodes alternatives pour éviter le recours à l’expérimentation animale. Quelles sont ces méthodes et sont-elles fiables ? Peuventelles s’appliquer à tous les domaines de la recherche sur le vivant ? Quels sont leurs avantages et leurs inconvénients ? En répondant à ces questions, ce documentaire en pose une autre : la recherche scientifique pourra-t-elle un jour se passer des tests sur les animaux ? 24

La réalisatrice de ce documentaire a filmé pendant un an les enfants d’une classe de moyenne section de maternelle afin de suivre l’évolution de leurs relations autour de l’âge « charnière » de 4 ans et demi : celui où les enfants découvrent que les autres ont des croyances, des désirs et des intentions qui leur

sont propres, et où ils commencent à prendre en compte leur point de vue dans leurs échanges. Les scientifiques disent qu’ils acquièrent une théorie de l’esprit, une représentation du fonctionnement mental des autres. Ce film montre leur plaisir de jouer et d’apprendre ensemble, leurs conversations, mais aussi leurs jeux de pouvoir et leurs disputes. Il permet d’observer comment les enfants passent d’une perception du monde centrée sur leur personne à la prise en compte des autres.

spéculatifs investissent en masse dans d’immenses surfaces, parmi les plus fertiles de la planète. Il est accusé d’avoir accidentellement mis le feu à la cave de son lycée le dernier jour de l’année scolaire. Pour cela, l’adolescent, qui a passé plusieurs heures menotté en garde à vue, risque gros, car il n’en est pas à son premier faux pas, et la loi de la récidive peut lui être appliquée. Récemment encore, l’âge aurait joué en sa faveur

mais, aujourd’hui, la priorité est à la répression. Et la réforme de la justice pénale pour mineurs, qui devrait être bientôt votée par le Parlement, va sans doute confirmer cette tendance. A l’heure où l’on parle de l’explosion de la violence à l’école, de couvre-feu pour les enfants de 13 ans, de garde à vue de mineurs de 14 ans, ce documentaire suit, avec comme lieu récurrent le tribunal de Toulouse, plusieurs jeunes impliqués dans des incidents, crimes ou délits, depuis leur mise en cause jusqu’à leur jugement.

Dix ans après la chute des talibans, la société afghane reste divisée. Considérées comme des citoyens de seconde zone, les femmes doivent faire face à la restriction de liberté, aux violences et à des lois iniques. Longtemps privées d’enseignement, les Afghanes sont illettrées

à 80 %. Depuis deux ans, les écoles de filles sont à nouveau la cible des attaques talibanes. Certaines adolescentes osent cependant braver les interdits. Elles sortent seules, sans voile, travaillent à leur gré, vont à l’école. Leur secret ? Se déguiser et vivre comme des garçons, depuis leur plus jeune âge. On les appelle les « Bacha Posh », littéralement « celles qui s’habillent en hommes ». Elles seraient ainsi des centaines, voire des milliers à travers le pays, à se travestir. Grâce à leur combat exemplaire et l’influence qu’il a eue sur les progrès de la génétique, il a été possible de retrouver cent trois des cinq cents enfants volés supposés. Le courage de ces femmes est aujourd’hui récompensé par le procès emblématique, unique au monde, qui s’ouvre en Argentine. Né à Bruxelles de parents russes anarchistes, engagé très jeune en Europe et en Russie dans les luttes révolutionnaires, puis opposant à Staline et même à Trotski, ce dissident de toutes les dissidences, exilé, traqué, a écrit en français une œuvre littéraire importante, jusqu’à sa mort au Mexique en 1947. Mais le romanesque destin de Victor Serge ne s’achève pas dans

ces années lointaines : ses écrits et sa pensée s’imposent encore aujourd’hui. Le 9 novembre 1977, le président Sadate annonce son souhait de se rendre à Jérusalem, reconnaissant ainsi de fait l’existence de l’Etat hébreu. Begin, le Premier ministre israélien, accepte l’offre. Le 19 novembre, dans un discours historique à la Knesset, Sadate lance l’idée d’un processus diplomatique conduisant à la

paix entre les deux pays. S’ensuit un cycle de tractations, qui durera près de deux ans, et mènera au premier accord de paix entre Israël et un pays arabe. Durant cette période, Sadate et Begin entretiennent une correspondance privée. Dépassant le cadre des négociations entre délégations, les deux hommes établissent une vraie relation, qui permet de faire le chemin vers Camp David. Cette correspondance, jusqu’ici classée secret défense, n’a jamais été publiée. Ce film raconte l’histoire du processus de paix à la lumière de ces nouveaux éléments.

PYGMÉES BLUES et l’ostracisme dont ils faisaient l’objet, ils avaient décidé de rentrer dans leur village, à sept cents kilomètres en amont du fleuve Congo. Mais, quelques jours avant le grand départ, Wengi, de plus en plus « dévoré de l’intérieur », meurt soudainement. Lors de son enterrement, pleurant sur la dépouille de son défunt mari, Pierrette promet de ne pas renoncer à ce voyage et de rapporter dans la forêt équatoriale la statuette sacrée que Wengi portait toujours autour du cou, comme lui-même s’y était engagé. L’âme de Wengi va accompagner Pierrette dans ce long périple.

The leader of the protests is Zahi Hawass, Egypt’s Minister of State for Antiquities Affairs. The Nefertiti Bust, Rosetta stone, Dendera Zodiac and many other works are now claimed by their countries of origin. According to French law and the principle of inalienability, no work may be returned to a country that reclaims it. However, in agreeing to return to New Zealand a Maori head that had been on display in his establishment for a hundred and fifty years, the director of the Rouen Museum reopened the debate. This documentary offers a report on the status of these restitution claims, drawing heavily on interviews with museum specialists from both sides of the struggle.

Faced with the aggressive nurse Ratched and rebelling against the established rules, he takes it upon himself to revolutionize the hospital. Released on November 19, 1975 with an international premiere in New York, Milos Forman’s second film shot on American soil is a huge hit. It won five Oscars in 1976 and makes its director one of the greatest film-makers of his time. Many interviews of those who contributed to the creation of this masterpiece shed new light on the film set’s ambiance.

Alcohol consumption is not exclusive to humans. U.S and British specialists have just made it official: ethanol is part of the daily intake of many animals. For the last few years, whether in evolutionary biology or genetics, new lines of inquiry into the relationship between animals and ethanol have been pointing to a theory whereby the relationship of humans to alcohol, and possibly even alcoholism, are grounded in certain behaviors of our animal or hominid ancestors. From Europe to Africa, from Japan to California and Malaysia, this film presents new scientific research which may open up original avenues of prevention and treatment of alcohol.

Animals are part of the “tool kit” in everyday use by institutions for medical research as well as by pharmaceutical, viral and toxicology laboratories: a fact that has fueled vivid debate between the defenders of the animal cause and the proponents of “sacrifices for scientific progress”. A body that has become transparent, as it were, and can be constantly scrutinized, may not be the body of a free person. In addition, it borrows from analyses of eyewitness accounts in the West and in the Islamic world, from journalists, political analysts, penitents, and secret service agents who worked on Al-Qaeda. The latter reveals the group’s true colors: a sect with no limits, whose main enemy is the Arab world but that is an increasing threat to the West and in no way representative of the Islamic world and culture. Going beyond the figures that are so staggering that they become meaningless—one million unemployed people will stop receiving payments from the Pôle Emploi (French Employment Center) in 2010—this film shows how part of the middle class is quietly sinking into poverty, overlooked by political debates and economic analyses. The director sought out men and women who were about to lose their benefits and uncovered the reality of their daily lives: disorientation, hopelessness, fear of lacking, and more.

In Romania, farms of several thousand hectares are purchased by investors, often farmers themselves. Nowadays, some French farmers are drawn to the mirages in Eastern Europe. This film follows an Alsatian farmer who tries his luck with an investment in Romania’s black earth as well as hedge funds in Ukraine, offering a reflection on the end of the agricultural lifestyle in Eastern Europe and in France.

Over the course of his 4-year struggle, John has joined forces with other European island dwellers to make his voice heard, and with the help of NGOs, lawyers, and other legal experts, the islanders are trying to assert their rights internationally.This long crusade teaches John and the other fisherfolk and island dwellers that their traditional resource management systems are a key to resolving global fishing problems, a major issue in the 21st century.

They receive better pay than in France, but the labor code is less supportive, with excessive flexibility, temporary and part-time work, a lack of job security, and the potential for dismissal without warning. The social protections enjoyed by their parents who worked in the steel and metal industries do not exist in this country, which attracts multinational companies. By following several residents of Thionville, where more than one-third of the active population works in Luxembourg, this film presents the true face of the new European proletariat.

All the designs were drawn and created from recycled clothing by women integrating into the job-market with the help of Emmanuel Aubry, the famous couturier’s stylist. The film recounts this magnificent adventure, from the creation of each piece to the apotheosis of a fashion show in Paris in the presence of the press, allowing for the connection between the two worlds of haute couture and integrated workers.

Emad Bornat, a farmer, lives in the village of Bil’in in the West Bank. Five years ago, the Israelis– citing security reasons–decided to construct a “separation wall” around the neighboring Jewish settlement that deprived Bil’in residents of half of their land. What ensued was a long legal battle against expropriation, a communal effort that Emad filmed from the very start. Revealing himself to be a remarkable cameraman, he followed the lives of his family, friends, and the villagers of Bil’in. Five years of a turbulent village life were captured on film. One after the other, five cameras experienced many hardships eventually broke during a confrontation. Each recorded a chapter in the Bil’in residents’ struggle.

A young man is accused of having accidently set fire to the basement of his school on the last day of the school year. The teen, who spent several hours handcuffed in police custody, risks a heavy penalty: since this is not his first encounter with the law, antirecidivism statutes might be applicable. Until quite recently, his age might have played in his favour, but the priority today is repression, and the reform of the criminal code for minors, soon to be voted by the French parliament, will certainly confirm that trend. At a time when we hear a lot about violence in schools, curfews for children under 13, and children as young as 14 being held in police custody, this film follows several young people, accused of a variety of crimes and offences, from arrest to sentencing.

This film portrays three young Afghan women accused of having committed a “moral crime”–having had pre-marital sex or having run away from home. Following them from prison to trial, the director uncovers the pressure, paradoxes, and dangers that women face in Afghanistan today. Are the errors of Kareema, Sabereh and Aleema really so serious? Barely 20 years-old, these women already bear the seal of disgrace for daring to love or refusing to live with violent parents.

Ten years after the fall of the Taliban, Afghan society remains divided. Treated like second-class citizens, women endure restricted freedoms, violence, and unfair laws. Long deprived of schooling, 80% of Afghan women are illiterate. In the past two years, girls’ schools have once again become the target of Taliban attacks. Some teenage girls nonetheless dare to defy the restrictions and taboos. They go out alone, bare-headed, and work at jobs of their choosing or go to school. Their secret? Disguising themselves and living as boys, from earliest childhood. They are known as “Bacha Posh”, literally “dressed up as a boy”. There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of cross-dressing girls throughout the country, which is paradoxically accepted by the religious authorities!

A hub at the intersection of the classroom and the outside world, the staffroom is an echo chamber for teachers’ problems, doubts, and worries. They talk a lot about their school and about teaching, but they also juggle their relationships with others and with the world outside.

Since then, suspicions about a criminal adoption network have continued to grow. Thousands of children had allegedly been declared dead and snatched from their real parents, considered by the government to be either too poor or too Marxist. How did this carry on with impunity until the late 1980s? How was it organized? This film searches for answers while offering a voice to both the victims and contributors involved in this frightful account.

Between 1976 and 1983, during the Dirty War of the Argentine dictatorship, military rulers sequestered pregnant women and waited for them to give birth, then executed them and took their babies. During the worst of the horror and chaos, the “Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo” stood up to those crimes and did everything possible to find their grandchildren. Thanks to their exemplary struggle and the influence it had on advances in genetic research, one hundred and three of the five hundred suspected stolen children have been found. The courage of these women has finally been rewarded by the landmark trial beginning in Argentina, one that is unique in the world. Thirty-five years after the fact, the Argentine criminal court in Buenos Aires is trying the leaders and torturers of the former regime for “crimes against humanity and systematic government plan to steal babies”.

In 1930, Virginia Hall was a young and brilliant American who at 25 spoke several languages and dreamed of a diplomatic career. After suffering a setback when a hunting accident left one of her legs amputated from the knee down, she became a spy who worked against the Nazis. Pursued by her enemies across France, she crossed the Pyrenees at an altitude of 2,000 meters to reach unoccupied France. After the war, she continued to work in intelligence with the CIA in France, Austria, the Balkans, and Latin America.

Autumn 1962. The United States has just discovered that the Soviet Union is secretly setting up nuclear missiles pointed at its territory from a military base in Cuba. Tension between the two superpowers rises and for weeks the planet is on the brink of a third world war. At this critical moment, Oleg Penkovsky, colonel at the GRU, the Soviet military intelligence agency, gave Americans information that allowed Kennedy to stand up to Khrushchev and get the missiles dismantled. Once discovered, Penkovsky was tried and executed for treason. Fifty years later, however, the KGB archives are beginning to declassify information and another truth is taking shape. What if the Russian agent simply kept the peace in a time of major crisis?

Victor Serge was born in Brussels to Russian anarchist parents and was involved from a young age in the revolutionary struggles in Europe and Russia. He then opposed Stalin and even Trotsky. This dissident of all dissidents was exiled and hunted, but he also wrote an important literary work in French before his death in Mexico in 1947. And Victor Serge’s romantic fate did not end in those distant years; his writing and ideas are still relevant today. Featuring personal testimony and sketches of Serge’s life, this film bridges past and present with an invented conversation between the filmmaker and the writer’s own words telling of his struggles that are brought to life by the voice of Jacques Bonnaffé. The film presents Victor Serge as an “important eyewitness”, a voice for today. A rhythmic montage with sequences of present-day and archival footage follows his footsteps in France, Russia and Mexico.

Between 1958 and 1962, China experienced the greatest tragedy of its long history. The “Great Leap Forward”, devised by Mao to lead China on a forced march toward industrialization and modernity, ended in a famine responsible for the deaths of more than 30 million people. The Chinese Communist Party now talks of “three years of natural disasters”, without recognizing either the extent or the real causes of the disaster. Chinese authorities also don’t mention that, as the country was dying of hunger, the granaries were full and China was exporting.... Alternating interviews with survivors, commentary by historians, and previously unpublished archival material, this film seeks to understand the political choices that led to the famine. It additionally wonders about the future of a country that refuses to look at its past in the face.

More than 30 years after the beginning of the Lebanese Civil War in April 1975, the history of the conflict has yet to be recounted in images. In the same vein as the successful series “The War,” these documentaries draw primarily upon the war stories and perspectives of the ordinary people who lived through these three tumultuous decades. They supplied their authorizations to the military authorities but only made it a few feet before being shot from the front and from behind. He fell first. She, with her last breath, crawled to his body and held him tightly. If love is universal, it isn’t experienced in the same way during war time. Bosto and Admira’s love was also an act of resistance.

On November 9, 1977, President Sadat announced his desire to go to Jerusalem, in effect acknowledging the existence of a Hebrew State. Begin, the Israeli Prime Minister, accepted the offer. On November 19, in a historical speech at Knesset, Sadat launched the idea of a diplomatic process leading to peace between the two countries. A cycle of negotiations followed that lasted almost two years and culminated in the first peace accord between Israel and an Arab country. During this period, Sadat and Begin began and maintained a private correspondence. Going beyond the negotiations between delegations, the two men established a bona fide relationship that helped pave the road to Camp David. This correspondence, which was classified as a defense secret until recently, has never been published. This film tells the story of the peace process in light of these new elements.

This film set out to trace the journey to and reunion with their homeland.But a few days before their big departure, Wengi felt more and more “eaten away from inside” and died suddenly. Weeping over her late husband’s body at his funeral, Pierrette promises not to abandon the trip and to fulfill Wengi’s own desire to return the sacred statuette he wore around his neck to the rainforest. Wengi’s spirit will accompany Pierrette during the long voyage.

By filming his impressions nearly every day, his joy and sadness in view of the magnificent lake, his doubts, but also his moments of personal peace and osmosis with nature, Mr. Tesson shares a childhood dream with the viewer. “The real challenge of six months of isolation is to know if one is capable is living with oneself. There is no one else to go to, no other face to brighten one’s day, if one grows tired of oneself. To live alone in a cabin is to know emptiness.” The story of his experience will be published by Gallimard.

This film draws heavily from Bombard’s book, Naufragé Volontaire (Willing Castaway), as well as from abundant radio, cinematographic and TV archives and contemporary accounts of three of his family and friends. This documentary tries to get as close as possible to the sensitive personality of Dr. Bombard and his psychology of an introvert hidden behind exuberance, and to enable the viewer to (re)discover this incredibly adventure and initiatory journey.

After two hundred years of digs and studies of one thousand seven hundred archaeological sites, it seemed Egypt had revealed all its secrets. These figures didn’t take into consideration the most recent satellite imaging technology perfected by the American space agency. A true revolution in the world of archaeology, this large-scale project can scan all of Egypt territory from space. Pyramids, temples, tombs and lost cities are gone over with a fine-toothed comb to see if there are any treasures hidden under ground. The program is concentrating on the Abydos site, the sacred city of Osiris, among others. The satellite images revealed two new structures that will soon be excavated to perhaps reveal one of the burial sites of the first kings of Egypt.

In 2011, in northern Mexico, two archaeologists are looking for the throne room of a still unknown Maya king. Just as extraordinary as their existence was it is the disappearance of the northern Maya that leaves archaeologists in a quandary. The only sloth sanctuary in the world is located at Aviarios del Caribe in Costa Rica. There, Judy Arroyo has brought together a small team from around the world. Each day, they care for orphaned baby sloths whose mothers were victims of human activity. Their goal is to ready these mammals for reintroduction into the wilderness of the Costa Rican jungle.

The Sunday Documentary is entering in its fourth year, bringing you weekly insights on French societal topics. From the harmful effects of a metal as prevalent as aluminum, the gluten present in numerous foodstuffs, the hair and honeymoon industries and precooked meals to ocean, mountain and land rescues, this weekly 52-minute show will satisfy the curiosity of viewers and the preoccupations of the public at large through the choice and diversity of questions it addresses.

Monkey Thieves returns in force for a third season. Emotion and action are again the key words to describe this original and off-beat wildlife series, thanks in particular to the stand-up comedian who takes charge of the French version. The end of the second season saw the perfidious Zamir manage to take control of the Galta gang. But now, Bipin, Yash, and Tito have reached adulthood and their ambitions are becoming clear. Will one of them succeed in conquering the throne of the dominant male? Or will they be relegated to a rival gang? Yet rhesus monkeys don’t just make war: there is love in the air as well. Who will succumb to the charms of an alluring female?

This two-part web-documentary brings the user through the maze of marital bliss… In the first part, Dr.Gottman lets us into the Love Lab he created for couples in Seattle. He has spent many years carrying out scientific experiments to discover the secrets of love. In the second part, The Art of Arguing, couples and experts decipher the language of the lovers’ quarrel, a necessary evil for the longterm health of a relationship… Two parts on the universal theme of love that complement each other and make for a fun and interactive experience.

After Extinction, last summer’s highly publicized series on France 5, Saved from Extinction focuses on three endangered species that are being rescued. Man was able to recreate favorable conditions to save the California Condor, Przewalski’s Horse of the Mongolian steppes and the Golden lion tamarin of the Brazilian forest. Still, even the smallest grain of sand can compromise the rescue process and tip the scales of the chances of survival for these species.
