#01 PROJECT: Head Office
British Columbia Maritime Employers Association
BCMEA
Designed & Photoshop Color & Light Balance Finish by: Franchesca Kim | Rendered by: Jay Kim
ELEVATION / SECTION DETAIL
ACHIEVEMENT:
This project was to re-design BCMEA’s existing head office in Vancouver located near Gas Town. The design request was to be very creative and to stand out with many colors as possible to give current family-oriented employers a new comfortable place they can feel a strong pride within. As a designer, the whole overall design and materials were chosen over a few client meetings and presentations to develop satisfying final look and as well as function/flow of the space layout. The furniture from Global Furniture Group were carefully laid out and individual space - Kitchen, Board Room, Staff Open Lounge, Quiet Room, and open office - has a powerful statement of characteristic on their own. The carpet was designed to act as a guidance to lead the uses of the space to certain areas, dividing areas by the direction of the carpet line and the colors.

The project was to design the whole 4F & 2/3 of 5F for the family-oriented staffs and the design process involved possible extention of square-foot of full floor space on 5F in the near future. The overall concept of the design was to pull up the company’s characteristics of modern but unique colors/graphics including their main logo color. The design request was to maintain the flowness starting from the elevator area, glass entrance, reception desk lobby, individual office departments, and then to huge staff lounce cafeteria with kitchen. They were very satisfied with separate wooden floor on the corner of the hallway, divided from the office carpet flooring, where the employers can grab their laptop and comfortably work on a sofa, using a whole wall as a white board with acrylic sheets on the wall for free-group discussions.

European Clothing Brand
GGARBENCHUNG
3D Max, V-Ray, Photoshop by Franchesca.K
Retail Shop for Man Ggarbenchung is an European clothing brand or women in SouthKorea from a designer Jung Young-Ja (Ggarben Jung). This project illustrates a newly designed men’s GgarbenCHUNG with a concept of tough, but gentle construction men from 60’s. The project was motivated from the 60’s building construction site. The constructon workers are tough, spending times fighing fear on metal beams on an extreme height with rough materials, yet, are sweet and warm-hearted. I believe they deserve suits and ties like men in the city and the shop reveals it all: their brave and calm atmosphere.

#03: Public Installation
of Laughter - Shelter
SPEAKING WIND
In a heart of busy downtown Toronto, a rhythm of the wind flies freely through a forest of crowded high buildings. A passage, located on a small park pathway in the corner of 4 way traffic, seats lonely. A huge attraction and a moment to rest were needed to the non-stop city. The installation is covered with hundreds of golden plastic panels - It swings by the touch of the wind and reflects a sun light from all angles at a day time and shines at night.
Abstract Perpective View - SketchUP, Podium, Photoshop
PLANNING PROCESS
Speaking Wind of Laughter Public Installation as a shelter in busy city This public installation of wall-like shelter exhibits the movement and the rhythm of the wind, which attracts busy people a moment of peace and laughter.
Day light effect by reflecting sunlight with wind, showing movement
Night light effect by LED below with wind, showing wind movement
ACHIEVEMENT: This project plays with the movement of the wind and illustrates physical rhythm of the wind that passes by in the heart of downtown Toronto at both day and night time with special effects. During the day time, as the wind passes by, each small sheet of acrylic panel dances, pushed by the wind back and forth, then reflects sunlight, especially on hot unny day. Individual sheet of acrylic panel is attached to a metal wire that is strong enough to stay firm in the winter wind and holds the panel with a spring, which allows panel to move back and forth with flexibility. During the night time, the wind still pushes the panels to face a various directions and angles and shine by the LED light installed below on the inner top surface of the base/bench. As the movment of the wind repeats, not even we can see the movement of the wind clearly with our bare eyes, but it also becomes an artwork and a powerful symbol of the location in downtown of Toronto with an identity. It also represents the current moment for us to enjoy that how the shining panels move with golden reflective sheet within, it looks as if it’s filled with a full of happiness and a laughter. The wind communicates to us and our community is connected to positive spirit of nature through an art installation that could mean so much.

32 BULWER - OFFICE FAMILY Residence + Office for a home business This project was to change an existing two storey building at 32 Bulwer Street in Toronto Ontario as an university assignment. A chosen client, Yohan Lee - a 28 years old film student - wished to live in a family oriented home business house with office studio members in the future.
Yohan L is independent and a modern thinker, but cares about family gathering atmosphere and special memories a lot. To make the house meaningful, I asked him to draw a house and incorporated the drawing he drew and to transformed it into a simple ‘ordinary’ house. Open Studio and family gathering tea lobby with free-standing fireplace is the main of all.

This design and the rendering was inspired by Audrey Hepburn and the movies. We tend to post things that we admire, such as a celebrity or a roll model on our space - you never get bored with staring at it.
