Franciacorta: the wine In 1995 it became the first Italian wine produced exclusively using in-bottle fermentation to be recognized as a Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin (D.O.C.G.). In that same year, the ‘Franciacorta’ production method was adopted and the name ‘vino spumante’, or sparkling wine, was officially abandoned. Today, the labels read Franciacorta, a single word that describes the land, the production method and the wine. Strict rules must be followed scrupulously to produce wines of the highest quality: this is the task of the Consorzio Franciacorta and its producers, who cultivate only the best varieties, harvest the grapes by hand, allow natural second fermentation in the bottle and age the wine slowly on the lees.

The Franciacorta Wine Festival is back on the agenda for the sixth year, scheduled for 19-20 September, 2015. The most popular event of the Festival returns: a picnic amidst memorable vineyards. A unique and exclusive tasting, a rare occasion for a toast with friends among the rows of grapevines. Bersi Serlini supplies its guests with picnic baskets, groundsheets and a map of the vineyards, showing the picnic areas on the premises. The Picnic ‘Pà e Salam’ basket contains a selection of cheeses presented at the Slow Food Pavilion at Expo 2015; bread and lard - tradition suggests “lining” the stomach with a layer of lard before serious drinking – cold cuts and special treats and a bottle of one of our Franciacorta wines. ON THE ROAD IN FRANCIACORTA
Buses depart and arrive from Rovato - Via Martinengo (Foro Boario - near the marketplace). Each tour includes: stops in 2 or 3 wine cellars, with guided tour and tasting. Participants will be accompanied by a professional tour leader for the entire journey, who will describe the area’s highlights. Cost: bus and tour guide are free - entrance fees to the wine cellars will be paid at each stop (the per person cost for each wine cellar is indicated in the program below). RESERVATIONS ARE RECOMMENDED and can be made by calling the following number: 030 7760870 or by sending an email to: info@festivalfranciacorta.it. Any seats not booked will be available to visitors without reservations at the time of departure.
