2 – FAMILY SUPPORT WORKERS (EXTERNAL) Stó:lō Nation requires the services of a qualified Family Support Workers to fill a vacancy with the Aboriginal Supported Child Development Program of the Health Services Department. Pursuant to section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code, preference may be given to applicants of Aboriginal ancestry. Please self-identify on your cover letter or resume. The Family Support Worker will provide support to families with children ages 0 – 6 who may have or be at risk for developmental delay. The Family Support Worker will provide support and Strategies to the family whose children may be in need of assessment or additional resources and services. The Family support worker will be able to do developmental screenings, make referrals, provide parenting support and in home visits to assist parents in nurturing and understanding their child’s development in a culturally sensitive way. This position reports to ASCD/AIDP Coordinator. The successful candidate(s) will work out of the Central (Chilliwack) and Western (Abbotsford/Mission) Offices. Some travel may be required for this position. Based on services needs the department reserves the right to relocate workers within the service delivery area. QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS: Must have an Early Childhood Education Certificate and/or a combination of education and work experience Must have a current First Aide Certificate or willingness to complete within probationary period Must have reliable transportation Experience working with children with special needs Courses and relevant training or workshop experience in special needs an asset Familiarity and understanding of the Stó:lō Culture and Language an asset Ability to develop and maintain a warm, caring, responsive relationship with children Ability to establish and maintain supportive, collaborative relationships with families, childcare staff and ASCDP staff Ability to maintain confidentiality in regards to children, families, and childcare staff Ability to maintain a positive, professional, non-judgmental attitude at all time with clients Physical and emotional ability to carry out the duties of the position Successful candidates will be required to provide the following if screened in for an interview: Proof of education documentation References: Three names and phone numbers of recent supervisors Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Drivers’ License Must successfully pass the required pre-employment RCMP Criminal records Check.
