To, His Grace, Most Rev. Bernard Moras, ARCHBISHOP OF BANGALORE Your Grace, Pranic healing founder Grand Master Choa Kok Sui is scheduled to have a session at Christ College on August 15th, 2006.

Pranic Healing is an esoteric alternative therapy, coming under New Age alternative medicines and so-called 'Holistic Health'. The Vatican Document "Jesus Christ, the Bearer of the Water of Life, A Christian Reflection on the New Age", 3rd February 2003, explains its basic concept, of the belief in and manipulation of "cosmic energy" in one's "etheric body", as New Age. The Meditation on Twin Hearts ceremony which will be used there is a serious "initiation", using this occult energy to allegedly link two "chakras", the "Heart" and the "Crown", and inducting the participants into the next "level" of pranic healing. The philosophies of Pranic healing are incompatible with Biblical revelation. So are all Mr. Sui's spiritual teachings, which I have analysed in my various researched articles. I would dare to say that some of them are very dangerous and most condemnable. Out of the hundreds of pages that I have written after extensively researching every book written by Mr. Sui on Pranic healing, I have attached just five here, along with this letter. I request you to please spare your valuable time to read the attachment, and beg you to intervene to prevent the Catholics of your archdiocese from being exposed to this occult session.

Could I ask you if there is any means of knowing the names of Pranic Healers in different places? The idea behind it is that in Goa there is a Healer and many people go to him. When asked some say that he is doing Pranic healing and some say it is Reiki healing and still worse some do not know what exactly he is doing but they say that he is healing.

I do not, as a rule, reveal the names of those who practise New Age therapies etc. in our exposĂŠs unless we have first contacted them and they reject the knowledge of the truth.

Many of those in the Pranic Healing Foundation of India, even the Trustees, are Catholics, some Mangaloreans, some Goans, even priests and nuns are the 'Head' Trustees, as in Kerala [Sr. Eliza Kuppozhackel, Kottayam]. In Chennai they are Clifford & Sushma Saldanha and the Orthodox Catholic Joseph family of the MRF Foundation!! In Secunderabad, the leading healers are a Catholic organization headed by priests; they even promote Pranic Healing through their magazine 'Health Action'. In Goa, it is one Patrick [surname unknown to me], and several Goan friends have objected to his activities and taken up the issue with the Deanery, and possibly the Archbishop of Goa, as per correspondence with me from about two years ago.

I have written to the Archbishop of Bangalore too, in this present issue.

When Good Shepherd Convent in Madras had an International Pranic Healing convention some years ago, my wife and I and two friends distributed pamphlets on the grounds and the Mother Superior herself had to evict us the third time.

The Vatican is not concerned about such things. Once they replied to me to write to our Bishops as it is a local matter.

Our body which is created by our God has within it powers that are given by God Himself. To tap those powers for good reasons is not anything bad or condemnable. I am not one to support New Age Spiritualism, but kindly do not associate everything with New Age Spiritualism as well. Someone can then club the Charismatic Movement with it as well! Of course, it is coming from Buddhist backgrounds, but that does not make it ipso facto unacceptable. All that the Christians practise is not necessarily good because it is practised by Christians and in the same way, everything that the others practise is not necessarily bad because it practised by "non"- Christians.

Let us be slow to condemn. Let us pray first for ourselves that we may have a greater sense of charity that alone will make us different in this world that is given to rash judgements and religious frenzy. Mt.9:1f, Lk.13: 10f There are numerous testimonies of this sort that will animate the Faith of people & bring TOTAL Healing when we go to the RIGHT SOURCE. Not any of the Charismatic renewal leaders who remain passive. That is why the dire need for a ministry like mine, and the crying need to educate our prayer groups. What Charisindia and the Renewal is doing is very insufficient.

I have always maintained that the CCR is the major bastion against New Age expansionism in the Church, but it is not proactive in the least. We will have to stop it as a personal gathering, as an agitation, if things are not going to change. Let our voice be heard in the streets. There needs to be physical presence of people who have the spirit to protect our faith in truth, wherever these heretic gatherings are happening. We need a strategy and an operation. Please respond to what can be done.

The encouraging responses include a ‘testimony’ that the awareness of the true nature of Pranic Healing created by this ministry helped one family to have recourse only to Jesus [and conventional medicine] in a moment of crisis.

The responses also include two letters from a Rowena Mathias, evidently a Catholic by background, but who is now in New Age, and IMS priest Fr. Prem Antony, apparently serving Jesus Youth, who confesses to having attended training in Pranic Healing, and insists that it is not a New Age therapy. Two email letters to Fr. Prem Antony have not elicited a response.
