ational Tourist Route Andøya runs along the outer edge of Andøya island, offering magnificent views of white sandy beaches, cragged peaks and the wide expanse of the ocean. Wide marshes with mountain peaks rising abruptly to 700 metres above sea level create a striking impression. Andøya island has three nature reserves; with its rock from many different epochs, the island has been called a living geology textbook. The Gulf Stream is responsible for the island’s relatively mild climate, and its proximity to the Eggakanten continental shelf break makes whales and seals a common sight. Deepsea fishing and trips to the bird colonies at nearby Bleiksøya island provide other opportunities for adventure. No installations have yet been completed along National Tourist Route Andøya, but that should not deter you from coming. The drive is an experience in its own right, and Andøya — with the small village of Bleik — is as yet largely undiscovered by tourism.

National Tourist Route Andøya is a 51 kilometre long drive between Andenes and Åkneskrysset (County Roads 974 / 976 / 82). In the summer season a ferry provides a direct connection to National Tourist Route Senja. Combining the routes across Andøya and Senja offers an alternative to Euroroute 6 and the Hurtigruten coastal liner.

1 KLEIVODDEN, which is located at the half-way point between Andenes and Bleik, offers a majestic view of the open sea, Bleik hamlet and Bleiksøya island. A viewing platform for visitors is scheduled to be built summer 2013. This installation will be adapted for wheelchair users. 2 BØRRA makes for an interesting stop on this route. This is the future site of a large rest area with service facilities. Børra, which is rich in natural beauty and historic narratives, provides a resplendent view towards the north and is an excellent spot to watch the midnight sun in the summer or raging storms in the winter season. The location is a Sámi cultural heritage site (sacrificial site). 3 BLEIK. The small fishing village of Bleik, with its unique beaches, its history and its characteristic buildings, is a little gem on this route. Visit Bleiksøya island to the northwest, the Bleikstranda beach to the east or take a stroll along the moraine to the west. A new service facilities building and a car park are being planned in the harbour area.
