National Tourist Route Aurlandsfjellet is a 47 kilometre long drive between Aurlandsvangen and Lærdalsøyri (County Road 243). The mountain crossing is closed in the winter season, but the road from Aurlandsvangen to the Stegastein viewing platform is open year round.

STEGASTEIN. Over a short period of time, the viewing platform at Stegastein has succeeded in becoming an attraction in its own right. This award-winning installation is constructed of laminated wood and steel, with solid plexiglass at its tip. It brings visitors 30 metres out into the air at a height of 650 metres above the fjord, adding a completely new dimension to the enjoyment of the majestic scenery and the spectacular fjord landscape. Architects: Todd Saunders and Tommie Wilhelmsen. 1
FLOTANE. Here you can find a rest area with benches, as well as service facilities operating on solar energy. Flotane is a natural point of departure for hikes along the old construction road leading onto the mountain plateau. Architect: Lars Berge.

VEDAHAUGANE. At Vedahaugane you can enjoy vistas of the mountains, the valley and the peaks of the Jotunheimen massif. A concrete walkway on pillars above the terrain offers splendid vantage points and leads you to a thought-provoking art installation in a tunnel at its end. «DEN», created by the American artist Mark Dion, depicts an encounter between the history of human civilisation and the forces of nature.
