About When it comes to self-care, millions of people rely on yoga—not only for relaxation, flexibility, and general health, but also for self-reflection and self-actualization. Particularly in vinyasa yoga, the emphasis is on synchronized breathing with smooth transitions from one pose to another. Like the rise and fall of the tides, the body and breath work together in constant motion. This fluidity of breath and movement naturally leads to greater flow of energy through the body and mind. Ebb & Flow echoes that energy as it transitions from garter stitch to feather-and-fan lace and back again. The graceful crescent shape is worked top down in two coordinating colors; then, the applied lace border is worked sideways along the lower edge. YARN

varying gauges will affect yardage and final measurements.

C1: 280 - 360 yd./255 -330 m; C2: 420 505 yd./380 - 462 m. If you are a fairly loose knitter, a second skein for the C2 NOTIONS is recommended. • Stitch markers

1 skein in Ebb (C1); 1 - 2 skeins in Flow • (C2).

This blend of yarn results in a soft fiber with a light halo and fuzz and has good memory.

Wingspan: 66 in./168 cm; Depth: 21 in./53.5 cm

NEEDLES •

US 5 (3.75 mm) 36 in./90 cm circular needle.

A long circular needle is recommended in order to accommodate the large number of stitches as the shawl grows.

GAUGE •

20 sts and 48 rows = 4 in./10 cm in garter stitch with US 5 (3.75 mm) after blocking.

Gauge is not crucial to this project, but

Please take a moment to give the entire pattern a read-through to understand the layout and flow of the instructions. CONSTRUCTION: This shawl is knit top-down, using a series of yarn overs to form the crescent shape. You will be increasing by 6 sts every RS row. Both written and charted instructions for the stitch pattern featured in the design do not include the k3 border at the beginning and end of the row. Follow the outline below to maintain the construction of the shawl until you reach the border section. For RS rows: K3, sm, [work stitch pattern RS row], sm, k3 (4 sts inc’d). For WS rows: K3, sm, [work stitch pattern WS row], sm, k3 (2 sts inc’d). This shawl features a knitted-on border. This is worked perpendicular to the body of the main shawl. The sts of the border are connected to those of the main body by knitting or purling them together.

Pattern Instructions: In C1 yarn, CO on 3 sts. Knit 6 rows. Rotate work 90 degrees, pick up 3 sts (use the purl ridges to pick up the sts). Rotate work 90 degrees again, pick up 3 sts (at the cast-on edge). 9 sts total. Set-up Row 1 (RS): K3, pm, (k1, yo, k1) in 1 stitch, k1, (k1, yo, k1) in 1 stitch, pm, k3 (4 sts inc’d). Drop and cut yarn, leaving a 6-in./15 cm tail (this is to make weaving in ends easier at the end), and pick up and attach C2 yarn. 2. Work STOCKINETTE STITCH Rows [12] once (87 sts between edge markers), then EBB & FLOW BODY Rows [1-14] (129 sts). Drop and cut yarn, leaving a 6-in./15 cm tail, and pick up and attach C1 yarn. 3. Work GARTER STITCH Rows [1-2] until you have 249 sts between edge markers, after working Row 2. Drop and cut yarn, leaving a 6-in./15 cm tail, and pick up and attach C2 yarn. 4. Instead of working Row 1 from the STOCKINETTE STITCH pattern, work instead: (K1, yo, k1) in 1 stitch, kfb, k until 2 sts before m, kfb, (k1, yo, k1) in 1 stitch (6 sts inc’d. 255 sts). Work Row 2 of STOCKINETTE STITCH normally (257 sts).
