Frank E. COM 3500 1/16/15 Steps to get Bartleby text from Word to InDesign (revised) 1. Open up the Bartleby text in Microsoft Word 2. Turn on the paragraph symbol (looks like a backwards p with the inside of the p being highlighted). 3. Check text to see if there are places with two dots after a period. Highlight the dots, right click and then copy both dots. Then, click Edit, scroll down and click Find and then click Advanced Find and Replace. In the find what section paste in the two dots you copied before and in the replace with section put in a space. Then click replace all. Make sure that there is only one space between sentences now. 4. Next, using ^p for a paragraph symbol, go back to the advanced find and replace. Type in three ^p (^p^p^p) in a row in the find what section. After that, put two ^p in a row (^p^p) in the replace with section. Then click replace all. 5. Again, using ^p for a paragraph symbol, go back to the advanced find and replace. Type in two ^p (^p^p) in a row in the find what section. After that, put one ^p in a row (^p) in the replace with section. Then click replace all. 6. Next, using ^p for a paragraph symbol, go back to the advanced find and replace. Type in one ^p (^p) in a row in the find what section. After that, put four ampersands in a row (&&&&) in the replace with section. Then click replace and replace all of the ^p except for the very last one. 7. Finally, go back and place the 4 & symbols (&&&&) in the Find what section and one ^p (^p) symbol in the replace with section. Then click replace for each occurrence of 4 & symbols. Make sure to leave the very last paragraph symbol at the end of the text. 8. Go to the styles tab on the page and then click new. Next, while creating a new style (name it Bartleby text or something else that is easy to remember) go to the bottom left hand corner and click format and then paragraph. Then change the spacing after to 6 pt. and save the style. 9. Apply the style to the text and save the document. Also, make sure the document is named “Bartleby.docx. 10. Next go to Adobe InDesign and open a new document. While under New Document check primary text frame and facing pages. Also make sure the top, left, bottom, right all have margins of 1 inch. 11. Go to File, Place and double click on the Bartleby document to place it InDesign. 12. Save InDesign document in folder (if you have a folder that is like a layout folder, save it there).
