Frank E. COM 3500 1/28/15 Tell Tale Heart Instructions 1) Open up the Tell Tale Heart document in Microsoft Word. 2) Then turn on the paragraph symbol to enable word to show hidden characters (like page breaks, section breaks, etc…). 3) Add a page break on the first page (“Tell Tale Heart” title page). Go to Insert, then scroll down to Break, and click Page Break. Make sure you add the break by clicking right after “POE.” 4) Then, click the space right before I in “Introduction” and insert a section break. To do this go to Insert, then scroll to Break, and then choose the section break (next page) option. 5) Click on the page with “Introduction.” Click view, scroll down to header and footer, and click it. Then in the tabs near the font (Home, Header and Footer, Layout, etc…) click header and footer. Go over to where it says options and uncheck “Link to Previous.” Make sure Link to Previous is off at all times. Then click Page # (next to header, footer, date, time). Go up to the top of Word and click Insert, then page numbers. In the bottom left hand corner of the box that opens up, click format. Then go to the bottom of the pop up box and click “start at” and make sure it says 1. Then click ok. Go to alignment and choose outside. Now click ok. 6) Next go to Format (top of Word) and then scroll down and click style. Near the bottom of the pop up box click “New.” Name the style “Table of Contents 1” and change the font to Copperplate Gothic Bold, regular size 18. Also makes sure the style has align text left on (first option under the font). Furthermore, near the top where it says “style based on” click it and scroll down to “Heading 1” and click that. 7) Then, apply “Table of Contents 1” style to each main heading (“Introduction,” “Proceeding,” “Driven to Murder,” and “Conclusion”). 8) Then go to the Document Elements tab (next to home, layout, etc…) and click the first table of contents choice. When your table of contents appears if a table of contents section is listed above “introduction” in the table of contents, delete it (should only be four sections). 9) Make a list of 18-20 words. If you don’t have any, use the following: old man, night, groan, terror, hour, minutes, mad, lantern, black, heart, eye, head, midnight, vulture, blue, chamber, pale, nothing, senses. 10) First highlight a word (old man for example). Then go to Insert, index and tables, mark entry. Then click mark all. Do this for each word. Also make sure that each “indexed” word has XE “ “next to it (check that the marking is on each occurrence of the word on each page). 11) For the word “mad,” make sure it has subentries of “anxiety” and “madness.” To do this, highlight “anxiety” and go to insert, index and tables, mark entry.
