Frank E. COM 3500 3/25/15 Instructions for woman in dress assignment: Making a background black and white 1. Open up the image that you want to edit (open in Adobe Photoshop) 2. On the left side of the screen, go and click on the “Quick Selection Tool” (above the “Crop” tool and below the image that looks like it has a magnet). 3. Place our cursor (looks like a circle with a plus sign in the middle) over the place you want to select. Click and drag so that the image you want to select is highlighted (dotted lines are around your object of choice). You can increase or decrease the brush size until it suits you. 4. If you don’t want to select some parts of your selection, go to the top of the screen and change the brush to “subtract from selection.” This looks like the original Quick Selection tool, except there is a dash mark above the brush. 5. To remove the unwanted areas of selection, simply click on the excess part of the selection and drag up or down depending on which part you want to remove. Remove the unwanted areas of selection until you are satisfied. 6. Next, go to the top of the screen and click Select, and then scroll down and click Inverse. 7. Now stay at the top of the screen and click Layer. Then after scrolling down and clicking New Adjustment Layer, scroll down and click the “Black and White” option. 8. When the New Layer box pops up, give the layer a name and leave everything as default. Then press ok. 9. Save your newly created image.
