Our story Finding cures. Saving pets. We save pets’ lives by providing grants that partially cover the cost of life-‐saving or life-‐enhancing emergency or specialty care for pets whose families cannot afford the full cost of treatment. In addition to Frankie’s Friends’ support, qualifying families are responsible for a portion of the treatment costs for their pets. The veterinary hospitals at which the pets are treated also assist by giving discounts. Special funding may be made available to support the care of certified working dogs as well as rehabilitation of sick or injured wildlife. It is also part of our mission to educate pet owners about the impact advanced medicine can have on pets’ lives. Thanks to leaps in veterinary medical knowledge, treatments and technology that are offered at specialty hospitals across North America, pets without any hope for a decent quality of life just a decade ago are now routinely saved. From delicate neurosurgeries to repair spinal cord disease to amazing chemotherapy options to extend the lives of pets with treatable cancers, pets are living longer with a great quality of life – staying with the families whom they love and who love them. The costs of treating critical emergencies and providing specialty services are beyond the means of many loving families, who end up making unthinkable decisions due to lack of funds. In 1999, Dr. Neil Shaw co-‐founder of BluePearl Veterinary Partners, decided to do something about that. Like all specialty and emergency practices, many patients came to his hospital needing advanced care – care their families with discouraging frequency were unable to afford. These loving and responsible families had few alternatives. Frankie’s Friends funds more than 1250 cases a year from all across the United States.

Happy Tails of pets we have helped Abby and Vinnie Vinny was recently treated at BluePearl veterinary offices. He had a blockage in his intestines and the surgery was going to cost too much and this non-‐profit organization has helped in the greatest deal possible. “Vinny (which is short for Vincent Van Gogh-‐Cat because he is missing part of his ear) is my best friend and I don’t know where I would be without him. He has been by my side for a year a half now and I couldn’t bear to be without him.” “Thank you again for everything you have done, it means the world to me.” -‐ Abby and Vinnie Desert Desert is a unique dog, to say the least. Born with a broken tail that curves around in the shape of a question mark, he is blind (the result of a congenital defect) and his favorite food is a ripe banana. He sleeps on his back, paws propped against the closest wall or doorway, where he is often found “impeding traffic” as his human mom says. Regardless of being unique, he’s loved immensely by his family. So when a routine checkup led to a diagnosis of multicentric lymphoma—a common canine cancer with no known cause—everyone who loves Desert was understandably worried. Desert’s mom said. Frankie’s Friends stepped in with funding to help Desert complete his chemo sessions. Today, Desert is recovering well. “He always makes me smile,” says the BluePearl veterinarian who treated him. “I am so glad we were able to finish his treatments with the help of Frankie’s Friends!”
