The Franklin Fund for Scholarships

“I am a junior studying Political Science and Spanish and a very lucky and grateful recipient of the International scholarship at FC. Without the scholarship, I probably wouldn't have been able to afford college. Thanks to my experience at FC, I now have the tools and confidence to pursue my dreams. The professors at Franklin encouraged me to believe in myself and my abilities so that I can work towards my goal of one day living in Latin America as a diplomat.” Atama Abdourahmane ’16

Impact 96% of Franklin College students receive some form of need-based financial aid. With the majority of our students relying on aid to attend the college, the generosity of donors to the Franklin Fund for Scholarships is far-reaching. Science majors and students with a passion for the performing arts, student athletes and those with or without Greek affiliation, freshmen from Texas and juniors from rural Indiana; the likelihood that scholarships are enabling them to be at Franklin College is great.

“FC had a major impact on my life, preparing me for success and providing me with lifelong friendships. Professor Jim Williams remains one of the most influential people in my life. His instruction and leadership taught me how to think critically and that a disciplined work ethic would lead to great things. As alumni, each of us has a different testimonial about what the college has done for us. However, the one thing we all share is the opportunity to pay it forward by giving back to our alma mater. I give to the Franklin Fund so that future students can have these experiences.” Joe Copeland ’05, President’s Circle Member

Community Each and every member of the Franklin College family is invited and encouraged to support the Franklin Fund for Scholarships, each and every year. Our donors are alumni—from the most recent graduating class to graduates of the late 1930s, alumni who attended but did not complete their studies at Franklin College, parents of current students, faculty and staff, community friends and corporate partners. The uniting factor is a commitment to investing in the success of current Franklin College students—at whatever level each donor is able. Franklin College alumni also recognize the importance of maintaining a high rate of participation in giving as a critical statistic to collegiate rankings and grant applications.

“Like so many Franklin alumni, I was a first generation college graduate. Franklin College provided me with the tools to enjoy a diverse and exciting career path. And, as was the case with so many of my classmates, that would not have been possible witout financial assistance made possible by hundreds of Franklin alumni who gave generously to the Franklin Fund. I give to the Franklin Fund as my way of continuing the legacy that made my college education possible. It is only fitting that we say thank you to those who came before us by keeping the Franklin Fund robust and growing. Please contribute generously.” Susan Williams ’67, Trustee

Opportunity Your gift — regardless of size — helps Franklin College to continue to attract outstanding students with competitive financial aid packages and to sustain the emphasis on a liberal arts education that leads to real world success. Indiana residents are eligible to receive a state tax credit for qualified gifts to institutions of higher education (up to $100 for a single return, $200 for a joint return). As a Division 3 school, Franklin College is prohibited from awarding athletic scholarships. The Franklin Fund provides valuable need-based scholarships to our outstanding population of student athletes, and to many other Franklin College students who pursue varied fields of interest.

Levels of the President’s Circle: Gold Key Circle 1834 Circle Ben Franklin Circle President’s Circle

$10,000 and above $5,000-$9,999 $2,500-$4,999 $1,000-$2,499

* For purposes of recognition, the value of matching gifts is added to the donor’s personal contribution. * Recognition is based on total cash received in a fiscal year. Unpaid pledges are not included. * Married couples are recognized for the combined total of their contributions.

President’s Circle members are recognized annually at the President’s Dinner, receive special communications and updates from our administration and student body, are presented with gifts of appreciation, and, most importantly, have the knowledge that their support provides the foundation of philanthropy at Franklin College. Alumni of the last decade have a unique opportunity to join the President’s Circle at a reduced rate of giving, but receive all the usual recognition of membership in the President’s Circle. Franklin College graduates 1-10 years out are invited to join the President’s Circle for $100 per year out of school. For example, in the fiscal year 2014-15, a graduate from 2013 is 2 years out and can join for $200. Married alumni not of the same class year are invited to use the older of the two class years for the basis of giving.
