Address: Brian and Alison Haslip’s property at 153 Saddleton Road, Waiau Pa. We have around four of the existing committee resigning this year and will be looking for some enthusiastic members to put their stamp on where the Franklin Branch can contribute to the objects of the NZ Tree Crops Association. The coming year will be busy with organising the 2016 NZTCA Conference to be held in Pukekohe and with a new project running alongside our annual grafting and pruning workshops plus the smallBlock Sunday Seminar. There is nothing that contributes to the objects of the Tree Crops Association more than a community learning and demonstration food forest. We have received some funding from the Auckland Council so we are launching the Franklin Food Forest at the AGM. Please come along to see the concept plans and how you can be involved in designing and implementing this project.

Field day: Pinewater Organic Feijoas & Limes

Immediately following the Branch AGM, we will explore Pinewater, a 6.25 hectare fully certified organic orchard overlooking the Taihiki Estuary on the upper reaches of the Manukau Harbour. Pinewater is owned and run by Alison and Brian Haslip with the help of their son, Warren, and his partner, Anita. Various animals keep the grass down on the land not planted in feijoa and lime trees or set aside as wetland and native bush revegetation areas.
