Franklin Branch Notice of AGM
Notice is given of the 2016 Annual General Meeting of the Franklin Branch of the NZ Tree Crops Association. The AGM will precede our February Field Day at the Pukekohe High School orchard. Date: 1:30pm on Saturday 13th February 2016 Access from Glasgow Road, adjacent to the kindergarten on the corner of John Street. We have some of the existing committee resigning this year and will be looking for some enthusiastic members to put their stamp on getting our community involved in tree cropping activities and how the Franklin Branch can contribute to the objects of the NZ Tree Crops Association. The coming year will be busy with the 2016 NZTCA Conference to be held in Pukekohe, our annual budding, grafting and pruning workshops plus the smallBlock Sunday Seminar. We are also looking to establish a permanent base for our activities at the Franklin Food Forest. There is nothing that contributes to the objects of the Tree Crops Association more than a community learning and demonstration food forest, hence the Franklin Food Forest project at the Pukekohe High School orchard. Please come to our AGM and see how the concept is developing.
Field day: Budding Workshop
Immediately following the Branch AGM, we will hold a budding workshop - apricot scion wood on to peach rootstock. The budded trees will be sold in a winter field day. The apricot scion wood is locally sourced from a number of trees that actually fruit in these northern climes. We have 80 Golden Queen peach root stocks growing nicely, so bring a sharp knife and try your hand under the expert tutelage of Sandy Cooper.
