Performance Notes: -Required technology: 2.1 stereo playback (stereo speaker pair + subwoofer) Monitor speaker for the performer -There are two recommended methods for synchronizing with the backing track: 1) If you are in control of and in view of whatever device you are using for playback, simply ensure there is a large time counter on the device's screen for you to follow. 2) If someone else is controling the playback device, equip yourself with a stopwatch (on a cellphone or watch), and synchronize the activation of it with the playing of the backing track. This will require visual communication with whomever is operating the device. -On the performance of the work: After every double bar, there will be a change in harmony in the backing track. A time stamp is indicated at the beginning of each new measure. Some measures begin with rests and others begin with a pitch. When a measure begins with a pitch, get as close as possible to hitting those pitches at the same time that the new harmony emerges. Take time (1 - 3 seconds) before beginning the new phrase when a measure begins with a rest. If the measure begins with a quarter rest, take more time than you would if it begins with an eighth rest. In general, the dynamics and pacing of the musical material within each measure is up to the performer. For example, you can pace measures so there are a few moments at the end of each in which the backing track can be heard alone. Alternately, you can pace the measures so that you are ending them exactly at the end of the alloted time frames. Do allow a few seconds of rest at the end of measures that contain rests as their final event.

Take your time with starting and ending this phrase. If you are still playing when the next chord emerges, that is okay.
