Maltese Newsletter 90

READER’S OPINION: I have finally finished reading your book. Unfortunately, my reading time is scarce due to the usual daily chores associated with work and family so it took me a while. You did ask for my feedback and it is my pleasure to respond, even if you had not asked, I would have been compelled to give it anyway. As a Maltese born Australian I felt a huge swell of pride upon learning and discovering the extent of Malta’s involvement and contribution to the war effort. As a young girl growing up in Sliema, I had no idea that some of the places I frequented or walked past regularly were of historical importance. My Form V class of ’79 was one of the first to use St Andrews as a school facility, and again I was surprised to read its history in your book. Besides being a process of revelation for me, your book also stirred up memories of my dear grandmother’s stories relating to my grandfather being a soldier. I remember very little unfortunately but Alexandria and Salonika were definitely talked about. Thank you so much for writing this book. I believe the Maltese, Australians and New Zealanders all over the world should be indebted to you for compiling and condensing all these historical facts into this book. It is also a wonderful tribute to the fallen ANZACS. I will truly treasure it and I’m sure it will serve to enlighten many generations ahead of us.
