CHANGING LIVES, TRANSFORMING LANDSCAPES November 2016
support like yours helped us launch work with nine new communities in 2015.
Dear <first name>, If I told you it was within your power to reverse the course of climate change, combat world hunger, and take action against poverty, what would you say? I hope you would say “show me how,” because that’s exactly why I’m writing.
I’ve been blown away by the work ethic and commitment exhibited in these communities. The change on farms and in nearby forests is monumental, all thanks to support from donors like you. I’d love to tell you about just a few of the ways your support is making a reality in Honduras.
Thanks to the generous support of donors like you, Sustainable Harvest International is seeing real change toward a more sustainable future on rural farms in Central America, and you have the power to help us achieve even more success in the year ahead.
Won’t you consider renewing your last donation of <last gift amount> from<last gift month> <last gift year>?
I see change in action in my work every day. Right now, sustainable transformation is particularly evident in the Siguatepeque region of Honduras, where generous donor
First, you helped our staff collect data to create the first-ever maps of these nine communities. Not only do maps allow for efficient work plans and supply routes, they’re also stored in local schools in each community, so that residents can understand their home relative to mountains, water, and other villages nearby. I’ve been particularly struck by how profound it must have been for these communities to view themselves on a map for the very first time.
But the maps were just the start. You’ve also helped farmers like Interiano Pérez plant banana trees that will not only yield food to consume and sell, but also provide necessary shade for young coffee plants growing below. And, with your support, farmers like Clemente Mejia have planted rows of pineapple to protect against soil erosion as drought gives way an unprecedented rainy season.
Renewing your gift today will help plant more trees to combat climate change. Further, families whose diets used to be just beans and corn are growing wildly productive gardens, like Elisa Lopez’s gigantic cabbages and Zamada Gomez’s abundant radishes. Will you help farmers in Honduras grow even more diverse crops in the year ahead? We won’t be able to do it without you. You’ve helped the families working in the Siguatepeque region reforest eight acres of tropical forests already. They’ve worked tirelessly to replace trees lost to slash-andburn agriculture with new growth. Each tree advances our fight against climate change.
Imagine the progress farmers in Honduras, Panama, and Belize will make with your next generous gift! You can be proud of success in these nine Honduran communities. Changing lives and landscapes is hard work, and I see farmers succeeding every day because of your loyal support. Won’t you consider renewing your gift and helping farmers alleviate poverty and preserve the environment? Thank you for your support. It means the world to me.
Renée Johnson Executive Director P.S. This is your chance to reverse the trajectory of climate change and reduce rural poverty. Please give today to ensure a sustainable future for all of us.
