PARC RIU LLOBREGAT The signage at Parc Riu Llobregat, in Spain, covers a total of 30 miles. The signs are made up of wood and come in 3 different sizes with the longest one being 210cm and are used at access points in the park. The smaller ones that mark the distance walked in Km can also be used as a bench. In my option the use of wood in these signs is complementing the park and still gives the feel of an orgainc look. Even the colours used on the signs complement the sky and the water around them.

Ingelsta Shopping This is a way finding system is aim for “adults and kids“. At Ingelsta Shopping, in Sweden, the signs are designed to be seen by both adults and kids with them. The signage is primaliy made out of two circles, one bigger and one smaller. Including information for adults on the larger circles and images on smaller cirlces for children. This way finding system is interesting as i creates a unique experience and can be fun for both adults and children.

The Royal Children’s Hospital This is a way finding system implemented in a hospital in Melbourne, called The Royal Children’s Hospital. The signage was based on information gathered from both staff and patients through surveys, interviews and observations on how children and adults react to signage. The areas were identified with landmarks as to be easy to describe and understand. In my opinion this was a very clever way to make it easier for the children to understand and also explain the location they are at or where they want to go. This also helps to make the hospital feel less like a hospital and more like a children’s area.

Virginia Beach Convention Center This signage system is implemented to cater for a large area and thus help visitors get around easily at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, in USA. The sign designers made use of white and blue as to complement the feel of the beach. The signage system is very clean and easy to read even from great distances. I really like the way the sign flows, which make it easy on the eye to read. They also offer a very aesthetic look through their simplicity.

DCU STUDENTS’ UNION This is a signage developed for a students’ union in a university in Berlin. Problems encountered by the students were that they couldn’t distiguish between different areas and they had no idea of where they were. The vibrant colours give a school feel and helps the students indentify their location and where they need to go. i like that the signage used here os not built but painted on to the walls, which gives a graffiti look that goes well with students.

University of Malta Way Finding System
The following is an analysis about the way finding system at the University of Malta. This section will consist of describing the signage used and wheter the signs used are clear and easy to understand.

Campus Map - UoM
As can be seen on the images of the campus map the signs are quite faded from colour, and the colours used do not compliment each other. The design used is quite poor and not visually aesthetic. The placement of the sign is god and gets plenty of light during the day. When it comes to finding where students need to go, they have to find the place from a long list at the bottom of the sign and they fnid the corresponding number code on the map according to the location needed. The text at the bottom is quite cluttered and can be a bit frustrating when coming to find your way around.

Info Screen - UoM
The screen is not visually aesthetic and the screen is not working. I also think that the sign won’t show on sunny days. Even the sign is in a bad state and not taken care of.

Floor Signs - UoM
The floor signs used for the purpose to give info and identify the name of the faculty and some others used for direction. The signs them selves are quite old fashioned and also misuse of space of the sign as the UoM amblem is too big. The placement of the signs is also not well placed, as they are placed low they are difficult to see if a few people stand infront of it, and some others are covered by trees and bushes.

Compared to all the other floor signs the IT services sign looks new and compliments well the area it is in, but it doesn’t go well with all the other signage used through the campus.

Arrow Signs - UoM
These signs are a complete change from all the other signs in at the UoM. It can be seen that there is a colour change, a variation in font size on every sign and also missuse of space. The signs are not easy to read and at certain times the students need to go round the whole sign to see where they are pointing to. The signs can be easily moved by wind or people and thus the way the sign is pointing to might not always be accurate. Also some signs dont show when standing at a certain angle

Interior Signage - UoM The interior signage is different in certain aspects and some signs differ from each other in the same building, As can be seen in the pictures the signs are not very explanatory and at some points the signs only consist of numbers.

Interior Signage - UoM Library The signage in the library is completely different from any other interior signage on campus, but there is a consistency in signage throughout the whole lilbrary. The design can afford to be a bit better, but compared to all the other signage on Campus.
