FOOD & WINE

Leopards Leap Brownies

Chocolate is a popular treat at this time of the year and at Leopards Leap, we combine this decadent ingredient with another seasonal tradition – Easter Buns! This recipe for Easter Brownies promises to be a family favourite and is irresistible with a glass of our 2019 Culinaria Grand Vin. (Buy six bottles of the Culinaria Grand Vin during April and pay 10% less. Available from our Tasting Room or leopardsleap.co.za)

EASTER BUN CHOCOLATE BROWNIES INGREDIENTS 175 g salted butter 80 g golden syrup 280 g caster sugar 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon 1 tablespoon freshly grated nutmeg 320 g dark chocolate, chopped into small pieces 4 free-range eggs, beaten 70 g plain flour 2-3 hot cross buns, split, toasted and cooled METHOD Melt the butter and syrup in a large saucepan over a medium heat. Add the sugar and spices, then simmer for 3-4 minutes until dissolved. Remove from the heat, add the chocolate and mix with a wooden spoon. Add the eggs and mix in until smooth. Finally, add the flour and beat until incorporated. Line a 20-cm square tin with baking paper. Tear the toasted hot cross buns into rough 2-cm square pieces and scatter them into the tin. Heat the oven to 180°C. Spoon the brownie mix into the tin and allow to stand for 15 minutes to allow the mix to settle over and into the buns. Bake for 35-40 minutes until gently set and wobbly in the middle. Do not leave the brownies in the oven longer than the cooking time, as they will become dry.

Le Petit Chef Makes His Cape Town Debut

LIFESTYLE

AT THE CAPITAL 15 ON ORANGE

The unparalleled 4D gastronomic entertainment experience of ‘Le Petit Chef’ has opened to Cape Town diners at The Capital 15 on Orange for the first time. Sure to feel right at home in the elegantly playful and iconic City Bowl hotel, ‘Le Petit Chef in The Footsteps of Marco Polo’ takes guests along a six-course culinary journey across the diverse mystical and magical regions traversed by the legendary explorer. The menu begins with inspiration from France, with guests at the show’s communal tables being taken luxuriously along a culinary journey in search of the greatest spices that Marco Polo would have encountered along the Silk Road. The magic of the show is not just in the surprise and delight of the holographic miniature guide, it’s in the imaginative presentation too. For instance, Le Petit Chef sales away from Marseilles by folding a piece of paper into a boat, and the first course is served in a suitcase. The second scene is set in Arabia, and its course is served in an ornate black box, and diners must solve a puzzle to open it. Each course has its own inspiration and intrigue, building anticipation throughout the two-hour experience, while live entertainment inspired by each location adds even more fun and excitement to the show. Even though Le Petit Chef’s unique experience is offered in more than 51 locations worldwide, his story has been customised for his South African audience. Set to run for at least five shows each week, #DinnerTimeStories with Le Petit Chef is the perfect way to celebrate a special occasion, whether it’s a landmark birthday or a corporate success. Guests are seated at a high-definition projected table-top, experiencing the beauty of the show together as the story and meal unfold together. Why not make night of it and spend it at the beautiful The Capital 15 on Orange when you watch ‘Le Petit Chef in The Footsteps of Marco Polo’. Spoil Yourself at Clos Malverne

Renowned for its classic flagship Cape Blends, this Stellenbosch Wine Farm has plenty to offer food and wine enthusiasts. In 1969, Seymour Pritchard bought the 10-hectare farm, Malvern Heights from Colonel JW Billingham, who had named the farm after the rolling hills around Malvern in his native England. He then added some “French Flair” to the name and changed it to Clos Malverne, due to the homestead on the farm being reminiscent of a Clos in France. After supplying its wine grapes to Stellenbosch Farmers’ Winery for a number of years, Clos Malverne released its first Cabernet Sauvignon ’88 to the public, and a year later Jeremy Walker joined Seymour as full-time winemaker. Clos Malverne is truly a family affair with Seymour and his wife Sophia overseeing the entire operation and successfully developing international markets for the estate. Seymour’s daughter, Belinda Pritchard-Quickelberge, makes sure that Clos Malverne’s visitors are pampered at the day spa and even Seymour’s mother has a role to play, if in name only. The Restaurant at Clos Malverne is a popular destination for foodies and wine lovers, serving upmarket, comfort food and rustic, wood-fired pizzas too. It has developed a devoted following since 2009 for its fresh, seasonal and easy, contemporary cuisine prepared by Executive Chef Brendan Stein and his team of expert chefs. The Clos Malverne story is one of family; vision and commitment to the handcrafting of excellent wines. Spoil yourself with the Clos Malverne curated Lifestyle Package designed to ensure maximum relaxation at only R4 380 for two people (available until 30 September 2022) includes: · Two nights’ accommodation in a luxury unit for two people, B&B. · Food and Wine Pairing lunch for two people. · One-hour Swedish full body massage for you and your partner. · A gift pack with three bottles of award-winning wines. Contact accommodation@closmalverne.co.za to indulge in this incredible offer!

CAPE TOWN OP ERA

W. A . MOZART LE NOZZE DI FIGARO Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro shaped the future of opera buffa and is in many ways the perfect opera. Continuing the story of the characters from Il Barbiere di Siviglia, this masterpiece offers a good dollop of farce, adultery, role-playing and cunning scheming. It also touches on abuse and mental health issues, seen in the Countess’s poignant navigation of her fracturing marriage. Presented in collaboration with Sempre Opera, and utilising a fantastic South African cast, this will be our first touring production of the year. With generous support from the City of Cape Town and the Judith Neilson Head Trust. 18 - 26 June 2022 Artscape Opera House Book through Computicket
