Winemaker’s Dinner Series

Boschendal is bringing a warm glow to guests this winter with their inaugural Winemaker’s Dinner series. The first week of every month will see guests enjoy a paired dinner at The Werf Restaurant hosted by Executive Chef Allistaire Lawrence and one of Boschendal’s three winemakers. Cellarmaster and red winemaker Jacques Viljoen, white winemaker Michael Langenhoven and Cap Classique winemaker, Danielle Coetsee, who received the prestigious ‘’Woman Winemaker of the Year” award at the 2020 SA Women’s Wine & Spirit Awards will co-host each of the events. Guests will have the opportunity for an intimate Q&A session before each dinner. The Werf restaurant, with Chef Allistaire at the helm, celebrates soil-to-fork dining – a true celebration of Boschendal’s commitment to ethical and sustainable farming practices. While Boschendal Farm has evolved into one of the leading hospitality destinations in the winelands of the Western Cape, it takes pride in celebrating three centuries of history as a humble working farm. Across the property you’ll find the agricultural heritage of this storied estate woven into every aspect of the guest experience. The wines will be complemented by produce and meat straight form Boschendal’s fields and gardens. The chefs at Boschendal are truly inspired, and guided, by the seasons. When crafting his menus, Chef Allistaire looks first to what the farm has provided, from fresh herbs and vegetables out of the bountiful Werf Food Garden and abundant fruit orchards, to the livestock that roam free on wide open pastures. No two evenings will be the same and guests can expect culinary and vinoteque delights, perfectly paired to highlight the other’s strengths and depth. Bookings can be made via the website and in-house guests and visitors are encouraged to book to avoid disappointment. Visit www.boschendal.com for more information and to secure your seat and hopefully a luxury farm cottage for the evening.

Well known to local audiences, award-winning cellist Carol Thorns joins forces with CODA Africa’s lead singer Zami Mdingi for an exceptional concert – Classical cello music with an African twist. Carol Thorns holds a Cum Laude Bachelor of Music Degree and a South African Music Award nomination for Best Instrumental Album for her solo cello album, Fireflies in The Rain. Her world-wide performances include opening for Vanessa Mae, performing for J Lo and sharing a stage with John Legend. Zami Mdingi reached the top 100 in Idols and was singed to EMI at a young age. With CODA Africa she has travelled internationally and was nominated for 2 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) for ‘Most Promising Artiste in Africa’, and ‘Best African-Electro Act’ alongside Goldfish and Mi Casa. 2

Keeping it in the Family with New Releases at La Motte

Did you know that Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc are the parents of Cabernet Sauvignon? La Motte has introduced its 2021 La Motte Sauvignon Blanc and 2018 La Motte Cabernet Sauvignon, keeping it in the family together with its Classic Collection – the 2018 La Motte Millennium (30% Cabernet Franc). After a subtle update to their packaging, this versatile selection, trusted for its consistency and elegance promises to make a stylish statement on any dinner table this winter. The La Motte Sauvignon Blanc (R89 from the tasting room) is renowned for its elegance and for the 2021 vintage, cool climate grapes and 8% Semillon contribute to its complexity. A refreshing glass on its own, and delightful partner to food. Try it with seafood, grilled Mediterranean vegetables, spicy Asian flavours and goat’s cheese. La Motte Cabernet Sauvignon (R149 from the tasting room) made from grapes of various origins and clones and matured in French oak barrels for 16 months, is known for its elegance and exceptional maturation potential. Thanks to its prominent minerality, firm tannins and flavourful intensity,

it is a natural partner to lamb and beef, root vegetables and hardier herbs like rosemary and thyme. The 2018 La Motte Millennium (R99 from the tasting room) consists of Merlot (52%), Cabernet Franc (30%), Petit Verdot (10%) and Malbec (8%). A South African interpretation of the famous Bordeaux-style red blend, it responds well to red meat and roasts. Its accommodating structure allows for mild curries and hard cheese – exceptional with creamy sauces and the earthiness of mushrooms. Available from the La Motte Tasting Room or visit la-motte.com for online purchases and sublime recipes.

A Piece of Africa in Your Home

African Jacquard, the home of innovative and inspiring French/ African textiles has been designing, weaving, and producing a diverse range of top-quality homeware textiles, in the heart of Cape Town, since 2014. This story began when French born, Founder and Creative Director of African Jacquard, Christine Daron, travelled to Africa 35 years ago. Now residing in South Africa and having travelled all over the Continent to countries such as Gabon, Congo, Angola and Burkina Faso, her first-hand experience in these different design cultures is apparent in the patterns and designs created at African Jacquard. Their ethos is to produce locally woven, top quality homeware products, and their mission is to bring delight to the world through the quality and grandeur of their textiles. Using the traditional French Jacquard technique, and natural fibres such as French Linen and African Cotton, they combine a variety of weaving styles, such as their signature waffle weave, together with traditional African geometric designs to bring you something spectacular. The real beauty of the Jacquard technique is that the intricate woven prints are reversible and can be displayed on both sides of the fabric. Their collections are inspired by the cultures, colours and landscapes throughout Africa, such as wildlife ‘spoor’ prints and the Ndebele house Patterns of South Africa. Their popular Bogolan Collection, woven with 100% French linen is inspired by the designs found in the Bogolan Mud Cloth of Mali in West Africa. Their bold Kuba Collection is woven with 100% African cotton and is inspired by the Kuba designs found in the Congolese raffia fabric, whereas their Metallic Collection is a blend of cotton and linen and is inspired by precious metals and African wildlife. To date African Jacquard has worked with prestigious wine farms, restaurants, boutique hotels and lodges in Southern Africa such as Babylonstoren, La Motte, The Silo, The Zeitz Mocca, Belmont Mount Nelson, Angama Mara, Sabi Sabi, &Beyond, Xigera, Victoria Falls Hotel and many more. From luxurious bed throws and bedspreads to long lasting table linen and towels, African Jacquard’s collections are guaranteed to evoke appreciation and authenticity for design.
