Our dynamic portfolio is featured on our search engine Wedaways, which includes resources for global venues & destinations, Wedaways Getaways™ webinars, our popular blog, and so much more. Led by Pamela, we are the luxury travel partner that wedding planners and their clients engage to assist in venue searching, room block bookings, ground transfers & excursions for pre-wedding, wedding celebrations and post-wedding experiences. And of course, magical honeymoons. Neither Pamela nor I ever imagined would be in business together, and never considered a mother/daughter partnership before Wedaways. As my lifetime career in luxury bridal retail and television came to a close, I was considering new opportunities. After completing her Masters and launching a startup in Israel, Pamela was considering a move back to London to launch another startup. Our daily conversations led to a meet up in Italy. It wasn’t long after that we realized we could start something new and exciting together by combining our unique abilities and resources. So back to Los Angeles she came. Wedaways was born out of heart-to-heart, head-to-head conversations between two very independent women deeply connected by familial bond, and mutual respect. The concept morphed a bit along the way, but the vision of the business has remained consistent. To add value to an already existing niche marketplace. We’re enjoying the journey. IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS The date is set, the idea of what the wedding would be is in your head, now it is time to plan it. First is deciding what you want most for your celebration. First and foremost, a venue! The choice may be between an indoor or an outdoor wedding. Perhaps you dreamed of a beachfront wedding or in a garden surrounded by olive trees. Maybe you dreamed of a fairy tale wedding or a simple but elegant one. Whatever the decision may be, one thing is guaranteed to ensure that your wedding is a success, and it all falls in the details. We asked six professional wedding planners to consider the essential information when planning your special celebration and they share with us these important tips that can make a wedding a memorable and magical one.
What are the most important distinctions couples look for when selecting a destination wedding venue? “Couples mainly look for a certain aesthetic be that tropical, Mediterranean, mountain, etc. -, Proximity to airport and ease of travel, and availability of quality vendors to execute the vision.” TYLER SPEIER “It's essential to consider the time of year and any potential weather challenges. How often and why do couples prefer to bring vendors from home? “We typically use at least 80% local vendors and only bring about 20% from home, but this can range based on the exact destination and the design vision. More and more though, the local vendors are offering outstanding quality and value to our couples, and I always explore everything we can do locally before bringing someone in.” EMILY COYNE
Specifically, what special details can be incorporated into a wedding that sets it apart? “We love incorporating special details that are unique to the couple and their story. And if possible, also into the venue space where the wedding is being held and overall wedding design. We especially love favors that double as a place card or an escort card, and we like to make sure that it is a touch that is true to the couple and continues telling their story. One of our absolute favorite details is a handwritten “thank you” note that doubles as a place card for each guest. Especially with micro-weddings being more common these days, it is more possible for our couples to add this personal touch. When we see every guest open that personal letter, their reaction is so sweet and we can see that they truly feel honored to be invited to celebrate with our couple. We have even incorporated things like specialty garlic olive oil that was specifically produced at the venue, to double as a favor and escort card display. Guests love treats of this sort because they are useful, extremely tasty and every time they use it, it serves as a nice memory of the wedding celebration.” NANCY PARK
“The majority of our destination couples tend to source local talent when selecting vendors to service their destination weddings – except for photographers and planners. Vendors that can travel easily with their product/service are the most desirable.” STEPHANIE COLE Do couples use the flowers they love or what’s available locally? “In our experience, couples prefer to work with locally available flowers for their destination weddings and special events. Working with locally grown flowers is typically more cost-effective and always more environmentally friendly. Also, it’s a great way to incorporate some local flair into the event!” BROOKE AVISHAY
How do couples infuse the “sense of place” when they work with a wedding planner in planning their destination wedding?
What are the elements of a property that you recommend? “With a buyout and the entire property is utilized, the result is a spectacular destination experience for your guests. For example a 3000-acre ranch may boast mountain top sites with 360-degree views that are epic for a ceremony. We love when the guests feel that they are on an adventure, wondering what they will discover when brought to a site like this, and then watching their jaws drop as they arrive.” EMILY COYNE
“The key is to stay cohesive and true to those grounding factors in more than just one or two elements. Give guests a glimpse into where they will be with things like invitations and your wedding website, Let them taste it in your menus, allow them to live it themselves through your welcome bag inclusions, let them hear it in your music, and let them see it in things like entertainment, design details, or vendor uniforms. This doesn't mean going over the top with everything. It's the subtle details that create impact. Tasteful and authentic.” EMILY COYNE
“For the Reception it would be a unique Venue. For the entire time would be the in-house public areas and F&B outlets. However, a proactive and positive attitude and service by management and staff is a huge bonus.” ARIEL BECKER
