Shopping Centre Shaping Up! Construction of The Waterfront’s new shopping precinct, comprising a 4,450 square metre retail destination, is progressing well and on schedule to be opened in October this year. Stage 1 is now fully leased and in addition to Woolworths, an eclectic and high quality list of retailers and professional businesses will be opening their doors on day one, including Shell Cove Dental, BreadRocks Bakery, Bliss Ice Cream & Gelato, Amalfi Pizza and Naturally Tasty. Frasers Property will also be among the impressive list of new tenants, with The Waterfront Sales & Information Centre also relocating to the town centre in October.

After the completion of the shopping precinct, the second stage of the Town Centre development will comprise a mixed-use dining precinct, including three storeys of apartments above restaurants and cafes. Stage 2 is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2019, at which point the boat harbour and marina are also expected to be in operation.

Marina Contract Awarded! In April Shellharbour City Council and Frasers Property Australia announced the contractor for the construction of the new marina, with Walcon Marine to supply and install the 270-berth development. Part of the Walcon Marine Limited group based in the UK, the company has over 50 years of experience in designing and constructing floating marina systems and has installed over 100,000 berths worldwide. The $15 million contract covers the construction of piling works, the supply of floating pontoon berths, a public boat ramp pontoon, a commercial vessel pontoon and a public jetty at Shell Cove. The pontoon berthing is set to be staged with the first 115 berths to be delivered by end-2019, and the second and third stages of marina berths to be delivered in line with demand. In a further development, Shellharbour City Council has also unveiled the official name of the marina, to be known as Shellharbour Marina, while the harbour itself will be called Shell Cove.

“There’s a real sense of community here…”

The Waterfront Lifestyle. So many people thinking of buying into The Waterfront, Shell Cove ask what it’s like to live there. That’s why we thought it best if you heard all about it from the residents themselves. In this issue of Cove Life we interview Robyn and Garry Pomfrett, who moved into a new 5 bedroom home at The Waterfront in April 2018. Where were you before The Waterfront? We lived at Ulladulla. Actually we met and married on the South Coast and we love the lifestyle so purchasing a new home for our retirement years at The Waterfront was a no-brainer. Another clincher was that our son-in-law and grandson are both contract plumbers who do work for Frasers Property and they told us the quality control with a Frasers’ build is second to none. This impressed my husband who was in the trade and had done several building projects himself, so we had no hesitation to invest in a Frasers Property community on the South Coast for our new home.

As retirees you purchased a 5 bedroom home. Is it too big for you both? Not at all! We even have a studio loft above the garage. We always have family and friends staying over. They love it. And I’m a bit of an artist so one room is now my studio. It’s a full house and also a fun house! What’s best about The Waterfront? We live next door to 2 parks and everything is within walking distance. We love walking and The Waterfront is ideal for that type of lifestyle. We are especially looking forward to the Shopping Centre and Woolies opening; even more so The Tavern. To be able to walk there and have a meal and a drink with friends or family and then simply stroll back home in the afternoon or evening will be fantastic. Anything else you like? Yes. The sense of community. The place already has its own community spirit, and everyone is of different age groups. We think that’s really important because we didn’t want to move to a retirement village type of environment. It’s very vibrant here and we are very happy we made the move.
