E DITOR'S NOTE In a time when everyone is constantly reminded of the necessity of social distancing, the community at Hamilton Reach has never felt more connected. As the world went into lockdown in March, residents reached out to their neighbours and took action to ensure the community remained united in spirit, if not in person. The launch of Hamilton Reach’s private Facebook group saw a beautiful community energy begin to swell. Seven Community Champions across Hamilton Reach now volunteer their time to develop and deliver small and large community-led activations. This edition of REALM is dedicated to our close-knit community and features memorable and heart-warming moments from the past few months. It has been wonderful watching our community thrive during these testing times. Marion Allard Community Development Manager Frasers Property Australia

NEW RELEASE

HAMILTON REACH

P R E MIUM NEW R I VE R F RONT HO MES R E LEASED. RIVERS REACH IS THE LAST CHANCE TO BUY NEW FREEHOLD WATERFRONT HOUSES AT HAMILTON REACH.

Artist impression

Freehold, riverfront homes are a scarce commodity in Brisbane with only 15 sold in the past 12 months. Frasers Property Australia has seen the demand for these premium residences and responded with Rivers Reach, 11 twoand three-storey luxury homes along the Brisbane River in the $700 million Hamilton Reach master-planned community. Rivers Reach will be the final chance for homeowners to get their hands on a brand new freehold riverfront home at Hamilton Reach and follows the success of its previous riverfront release of eight River Homes. Once complete, the luxury Rivers Reach homes will range in size from 357 to 458 square metres over two or three levels.

Each architect-designed residence will have four bedrooms, four-and-a-half bathrooms, large basement garages with space for three cars plus storage and six- or nine-metre-high voids with some also featuring private lifts and pools. All 11 homes will have uninterrupted, expansive views of the Brisbane River from their Parkside Circuit address, alongside Hamilton Reach’s award-winning Green Quarter, Newport and River Homes releases. Frasers Property Australia’s General Manager Development Queensland Scott Ullman said the company was excited about delivering this collection of luxury freehold waterfront homes that will integrate perfectly with the Hamilton Reach community.

NEW RELEASE

Artist impression

“Absolute riverfront homes remain a scarce commodity on the northside inner-city reach of the Brisbane River and usually have a steep price tag, evidenced by recent sales from the past 12 months that included a freehold residential riverfront home at New Farm selling for $15.5 million,” Mr Ullman said. The Rivers Reach release will appeal to buyers in the $2 million price bracket, he said, noting the River Homes sold upwards of $3 million with one three-level home setting a new Hamilton Reach record sale price of $4.021 million. “There are very few opportunities to own absolute riverfront freehold homes in the sought-after Hamilton suburb and other

than our River Homes, the only other two nearby waterfront homes are on Harbour Road. “These homes sold for $10.3 million and $11.8 million in 2010 and 2015 respectively, making our Rivers Reach homes exceptional buying for a riverfront location in one of Brisbane’s most prestigious suburbs. “Hamilton Reach is an established community of more than 1000 residents and offers a great lifestyle with its riverside location, easy access to the CBD and myriad green spaces, parklands and walking paths.

NEW RELEASE

Artist impression

“For our last riverfront release at Hamilton Reach, we’ve created a special new addition to the community; a collection of homes that will not only become an architectural landmark on the Brisbane River but a sanctuary, a place where memories will be made and proud communities will grow for many years to come.” Rivers Reach has been designed by award-winning architects Bureau Proberts to embrace river living and with the Queensland lifestyle in mind. Bureau Proberts Managing Director Liam Proberts said with their fabulous river backdrop, Rivers Reach homes have been designed to highlight their connection and direct relationship with the riverfront.

Artist impression

“Creating a visual connection from key living areas was our utmost priority and we have achieved this with large living spaces that flow directly onto riverfront terraces looking out to the river, floor-to-ceiling glass and cross ventilation to enhance the waterfront liveability,” Mr Proberts said.

RECREATION & LEISURE

C URTA I N RAISED O N NE W NEI GHB OURS. FLIP OUT AT NORTHSHORE’S FUN NEW ENTERTAINMENT DESTINATION.

Two big names in entertainment brought the magic of cinema and thrill of the circus to Northshore this spring. In an Australian-first event, Northshore hosted the premiere season of the new Disney+ Drive-In, a pop-up cinema experience that relived the magic of classic Disney films on the big screen.

It joined Queensland’s largest youth arts company, Flipside Circus, which swung open the doors to the state’s largest circus school at Northshore home in August. The colourful new additions to Northshore are the first of many events and activations planned for the precinct.

Openair Cinemas partnered with one of the world’s most beloved brands to spread entertainment and joy across Australia this spring. The first stop on Disney+ Drive-In’s inaugural national tour was the Northshore Riverfront Event Space at 33 MacArthur Avenue, Hamilton with family favourites and big-name blockbusters screening six nights a week throughout September and October. The line-up included titles from Walt Disney Pictures, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Twentieth Century Fox. Film fans of all ages flocked to see a packed program which included Marvel Mondays and Star Wars Wednesdays with double features lighting up the big screen on Throwback Thursday, Disney Super Fan Friday, Sing-Along Saturday and Pixar Sunday. Highlights included a rousing double feature on October 10 where sing-along versions of Frozen and Frozen II drew carloads of fans. Fittingly, the premiere Brisbane season drew to a close with a screening of Pixar’s contemporary classic, Cars. Adding to the fun was major sponsor Volkswagen who gave away tickets to the Best Seats in the House, selecting lucky moviegoers to watch in style in a brand new T-Roc. F L IPSIDE CIRCU S Queensland’s largest circus school has swung into the neighbourhood with Flipside Circus relocating to the Northshore Riverfront Event Space in August. A packed schedule of classes, workshops and specialist training programs are taught from a pop-up circus space while work begins on its new permanent home this year. Flipside Circus’s comprehensive class schedule spans acrobatics, juggling and aerials for children as young as three, to school holiday workshops, advanced trapeze and aerial training for adults. Flipside Circus CEO and Creative Director Robert Kronk said several hundred students across all ages and abilities have registered for classes since the new school opened. “It's exciting to start laying the groundwork for Flipside Circus’s new custom-designed and purpose-built training space,” Mr Kronk said, adding construction was scheduled to begin at Northshore near the end of 2020. “While I can’t give too much away about this innovative new facility, I can say that once Flipside’s new home is completed, it will become a landmark for the arts and cement Queensland’s position as a world-leader in circus skills development.” Flipside Circus is at Northshore’s Riverfront Event Space, 33 MacArthur Avenue, Hamilton. AN ZAC DAY 202

0

The cancellation of public services did not prevent Hamilton Reach residents from hosting an ANZAC Day tribute. Residents organised a socially distant dawn service where local veterans laid a wreath, a trumpeter played The Last Post and a digital memorial service was livestreamed. Dozens of Hamilton Reach residents joined the ceremony from their balconies, lighting candles and wearing poppies in support. Frasers Property Australia ordered more than 520 packets of ANZAC biscuits from Northshore Harbour Café which were distributed to every household in Hamilton Reach.

HERCULES STREET PARK

N E W PARK MAKES A S P L A SH. RESIDENTS AND VISITORS ARE DRAWN TO HAMILTON’S NEWEST COMMUNITY HUB.

The park has further cemented its green credentials by capturing and storing the water it uses in tanks then reticulating it into the park’s gardens. Hercules Street Park is also a hit with four-legged residents who are making the most of its ‘pup’-graded off-leash area where both big and small dogs can run and play. The park’s $10 million transformation took place over 12 months and was overseen by Economic Development Queensland (EDQ), funded with contributions from developers in the Northshore Hamilton priority development area including Frasers Property Australia. The start of 2020 saw a bright new addition welcomed to the neighbourhood with the official opening of Hercules Street Park. The much-anticipated public space brings a renewed vibrancy to the former Hamilton Recreation Reserve with residents and visitors readily embracing the new community hub. The former industrial site is morphing into a lush green space with 16,000 new trees and shrubs planted and several original trees relocated to provide shade and ambience. At its centre is an expansive Village Green, ideal for community events and casual recreational activities like kick-to-kick footy, frisbee and even impromptu games of cricket. The action spills over into a dedicated fitness and recreation area which gets heart rates soaring with outdoor gym and exercise equipment and a brand-new basketball half-court. Walking tracks and cycling paths weave through the park and connect to Hamilton’s existing network of walkways and footpaths. Younger visitors too, are embracing an active and healthy lifestyle, hitting the junior playground and testing out its multi-level play structure and inclusive swing sets designed for children of all ages and abilities. They’ve also made a splash in the adjacent water play area, delighted by its synchronised programs and fun equipment.

RESIDENTS Q&A

C AR L A M ORE T TI. A SENSE OF BELONGING AND A DEEP SOCIAL CONNECTION SPURRED CARLA MORETTI TO BECOME ONE OF HAMILTON REACH’S NEW COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS.

What prompted you to move to Hamilton Reach? I have lived in the Hamilton area since 1997 and always wanted to be part of a community that lives and socialises together and liked the idea of regular community events. I was having lunch at Northshore Café and decided on a whim to visit the sales centre. When the agent told me there were still a few apartments in Watermarque, I had to see them and got “that feeling” the minute I walked into my new home. I moved in a month later. What do you love most about living at Hamilton Reach? The feeling of being part of a community and living near some great friends that I can spend time with simply by walking across the park. I work at the airport so it is an easy commute each day and I love taking the ferry to the city and South Bank, especially when I have visitors staying with me. I feel very safe going for walks around the neighbourhood and along the river and can’t wait for the boardwalk to extend all the way up to us. If you could describe Hamilton Reach in just three words, what would they be? Community, Lifestyle, Nature. How do you like to spend your free time? My job can be quite intense so I take a weekly timeout at Dendy Portside cinema to tune out from the world for a few hours. I enjoy walking and discovering new sites along the river every time I go wandering. I love seeing all the different birdlife in the trees and spotting the wildlife that shares our neighbourhood. How important is a sense of community to you? Being part of a community is a great feeling of belonging; that I matter to others in my community. It is heart-warming to see so many residents offering to help others especially during this challenging year. I feel honoured to be a Community Champion and share my visions and ideas to enhance life in our little pocket. Not only are we a diverse group of people with many different skills and talents, we have also become great friends who inspire each other with our enthusiasm and motivation. That’s what community means to me.

What is your favourite spot to relax and why? I really enjoy sitting out on my balcony with a good book and a glass of wine. The birds in the trees are my music and I can wave to my neighbours as they walk their dogs. What is your local tip for coffee, food and drink? Hosokawa Japanese Restaurant on Racecourse Road is one of my favourites, serving some of the best sushi I have had outside of Japan. Would you believe I met the owners’ sister in a chance encounter in Tokyo earlier this year? What a small world we live in! What is your favourite local hidden gem? I have been getting takeaway from Northern Thai on Racecourse Road for over 20 years and the quality of the food never fails. Their Pad Thai noodles and Tom Kah Coconut Seafood Soup are an absolute must.

S C U L PT I NG THE NATURAL AN D U RBAN L ANDSC APE. MEANDER AMONG MAGNIFICENT SCULPTURES AT NORTHSHORE’S LARGE-SCALE OUTDOOR ART EXHIBITION.

The beautiful Brisbane River takes on added appeal when dozens of Queensland artists use the river’s reach as their canvas in a large-scale sculpture exhibition. Northshore Sculpture by the River is a free, two-month public art event with 26 outdoor works dotting the riverbank and another 45 smaller pieces exhibited indoors. The inaugural exhibition by Sculptors Queensland runs from 3 October to 6 December and features pieces by local artists that reflect the rich cultural history of Northshore: from Indigenous and migrant-inspired pieces to the environment and the river’s history.

catch mullet was by watching the sea eagles which waited for the leading mullet in the schools to pass.” Additionally, Peter’s elegant Wings of Dreams is inspired by the story and music of Jonathon Livingstone Seagull, as well as the joy he experiences when watching the aerobatic skills of local seabirds. “I have interpreted their swift movements by making the sculpture kinetic, in that it moves with the wind,” he explains. Northshore Sculpture by the River is organised by Sculptors Queensland and funded by Economic Development Queensland and Brisbane Marketing.

Large outdoor sculptures will trail along the beautiful scenery of Northshore’s riverbank while a collection of indoor sculptures will be exhibited at the Hamilton Reach Sales & Display Centre until 6 December, all of which are available for purchase. Hamilton’s Northshore precinct has evolved from its origins as natural swampland that was home to Indigenous people, to prominent working wharves during the 1920s and ‘30s and now to a vibrant and evolving multicultural community, bustling with businesses and apartment dwellers. To commemorate the beauty of the land and its history, an array of multifaceted and notable Queensland sculptors will showcase some of their most iconic pieces of work. Free guided tours of the exhibition will take place across the two-month Northshore Sculpture by the River event with details available at sculptorsqld.org.au. Contributing artist Peter Steller says: “This exhibition is unique as artists have come together to interpret the history and cultures of the people of this section of the Brisbane River, the fauna and flora of the past and present.” A sculptor who mixes traditional and contemporary artistic styles, Peter feels deeply connected to his timber sculpture, The Hunter, made from Moreton Bay Fig and influenced by coastal Indigenous communities. “I was inspired by the local osprey I see each day soaring over the Bay. I discovered that coastal Aboriginals learned the best time to

OUT & ABOUT

SAI L OF T HE CENTURY. YACHT OWNERSHIP NO LONGER A FLEET-ING FANCY FOR HAMILTON REACH COUPLE, TANIA AND JOHN RYAN.

Tania and John Ryan spend their weekends exploring Moreton Bay and their winters island-hopping up the Queensland coast aboard their year-old yacht, Jubilation.

The Hamilton Reach couple are guaranteed 33 sailing days each year but take full advantage of standby dates and estimated they spent more than 60 days on the water last year.

The avid sailors are also savvy shoppers who enjoy this luxurious lifestyle without the lavish costs.

They are planning a fortnight in the Whitsundays this spring, exploring untouched inlets and islands. “It is a dream to be able to sail down the coast of Queensland and the experience of seeing whales, dolphins and flying fish landing on the deck of the boat is amazing,” UK-born John says.

Jubilation is part of the Yachtshare fleet, a shared boating ownership program based at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, that affords sailors the freedom of a yachting lifestyle without the financial burden. “I’ve owned boats and worked on boats and you quickly realise they require a 100 per cent commitment, your whole life is your boat,” said Tania, who sailed from Brisbane to Borneo in 2006. “You spend so much time and money maintaining, fixing, refuelling and checking a boat but with Yachtshare, we are one of 10 owners so only pay 10 per cent of the maintenance and upkeep costs.”

The couple bought their Hamilton Reach apartment off the plan in 2015, moving into their new home on Valentine’s Day 2017. “How could you live on the river and not want to sail?!” John asks. “Our dream is to have our own yacht once we retire, when we have more time to sail, but for now, Yachtshare meets our needs perfectly.”
