The Fraser Valley Recreation Foundation and the Fraser Valley Metropolitan Recreation District are excited to announce “Project 2014. We are planning a playground that incorporates Grand County history. The educational component of the playground will be highlighted by interpretational signage on certain play elements, including names of historic Grand County buildings. Play equipment currently planned includes a stagecoach and train component, old west storefronts, including a mercantile building, hotel, and jail, and Native American elements consistent with the Ute tribe. Our goal is to improve the safety, ADA compliance and accessibility of the FVSC playground by providing modernized play equipment while promoting healthy, active lifestyles, and creative and imaginative play for all children. Bujinkan Ninjutsu - Martial Arts

The Bujinkan Dojo is dedicated to the study and promotion of traditional Japanese Ninja and Samurai martial arts as taught by Grandmaster Masaaki Hatsumi, in Noda-shi Japan. Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu comprises nine different but complimentary martial arts traditions that encompass all aspects of personal combat and self protection skills. Our training will consist of armed and unarmed personal combat techniques, as taught in Japan. Our martial art is truly martial in that it is centered on centuries old, combat-tested techniques. We are not a sport martial art, nor do we compete in tournaments or match-type competitions. While this sounds very serious, and indeed it is, we are also here to have fun, improve ourselves, learn from each other, and find ways to live our lives without fear. As Hatsumi-Sensei says “...to become people that can live.” Sensei Matt Relyea is a black belt student in Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu under 15th Degree Black belt, Master Ed Martin, a direct student of Grandmaster Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi. Functional Movement Screen

The Functional Movement Screen is an assessment that documents movement patterns that are key to normal function. By assessing these patterns, the FMS identifies functional limitations and asymmetries. These are issues that can reduce the effects of functional training and physical conditioning and distort body awareness. The FMS generates the Functional Movement Screen Score, which is used to target problems and track progress. This scoring system is directly linked to the most beneficial corrective exercises to restore mechanically sound movement patterns. The FMS score is used to track progress and identify those exercises that will be most effective to restore proper movement and build strength. Instructors: John Florkiewicz and Lucy Lozar
