“My son and his friends had so much fun at your summer camp that I don’t think he ever realized he was learning engineering! I’m sure the next time he asks the question, “When am I ever going to need this?” while doing a math problem, I’ll be the first to remind him of the principles he learned by creating cool Lego projects. Kids are motivated in different ways to learn. Teaching elementary kids how information and knowledge can be great fun and very useful will open their minds to possibilities they may never have considered. Please come! We love you!” -Quenta H

Meet at the Berthoud Pass, 2nd Creek Trailhead and move up through the zones: riparian, subalpine and alpine, and the natural resources will be right there along the trail. This is a 2½ hour hike; one hour + interpretive hike up, ½ hour + to explore the area & Broome Hut, have your sack lunch and hike down, on your own or with John Simmons.

Come prepared for any weather and don’t forget the 10 essentials in your pack! (Bring drinking water - NO potable water source.) The Broome hut sits in the beautiful Second Creek basin at 11,350 ft. The trailhead is located at mile marker 240 on the west side of Berthoud Pass. The hike is 1 mile with an 800 ft. elevation gain, up a beautiful, well defined, subalpine trail that is suitable for all ages. Please note that dogs are not allowed at the Broome Hut. We discourage dogs in this over-used basin, and the cabin is adjacent to the Vasquez Wilderness where dogs must be on a leash. Navigation (map, provided & compass) o 5. Sun Protection (sun screen, glasses & hat) o 6. Insulation (layered clothing for whatever weather conditions we face) o 7. Illumination (flashlight ) o 8. First Aid Supplies o 9. Fire (an easy way to make a fire) o 10. Repair Kit & Tools

Sturdy hiking boots/shoes reccomended and a walking staff or hiking poles could help with stability on the steep and uneven terrain. A camera and binoculars would be essential for some! 25

Nature & Hiking

Moms and Dads grab your child and join us for some fun outdoor time with your carrier or jogging stroller. We will meet at the Trail Heads. Hikes will be led in and around the Fraser/Winter Park area for any moms, dads, and kiddos that want to get outside for a bit! Hikes will be between 1-2 miles in length with minimal elevation gain. Infants and toddlers are welcome (parents must accompany!). All hikes will meet at the denoted location and will depart by 10:15am. These walks/hikes will be leisurely, allowing for parents to tend to their little ones as needed and we will stick together as a group. Our focus is to enjoy the outdoors and support others! Bring along your stroller, carrier or bikes. Comfortable hiking shoes, hat, sunscreen, bugspray and water bottle are recommended. For detailed directions or questions, please email Sara Hershfelt at sar31781@aol.com. These outings are FREE so come and meet new parents or grab a friend for some healthy outdoor time. The Functional Movement Screen is an assessment to document movement patterns that are key to normal function. Assessing these patterns, the FMS identifies functional limitations and asymmetries. These are issues that can reduce the effects of functional training and physical conditioning and distort body awareness. The FMS generates the Functional Movement Screen Score, which is used to target problems and track progress. This scoring system is directly linked to the most beneficial corrective exercises to restore mechanically sound movement patterns. The FMS score is used to track progress and identify exercises that will be most effective to restore proper movement and build strength.
