Have them join us at the FVMRD Afterschool Program located at Fraser Valley Elementary! Your child is able to grow their social skills, partake in physical activity, and receive academic support in a nurturing environment with experienced staff. Upon arrival, a healthy snack is provided for each child, followed by a story and related activity or active play time. We have designated homework time to allow everyone to work on their homework. On Tuesdays, we visit the Fraser Valley Library and have reserved their conference area to take part in arts and crafts, check out books, or play and socialize with friends. Registration for the library program will no longer go through the library, but must go through FVMRD. We please ask that all children are picked up at Fraser Valley Library by 5:30pm on Tuesdays. Prior to registering your child for the afterschool program, all necessary forms must be completed through CampDocs. Please contact the GPCRC Front Desk Staff or Michelle Lawrence at michelle@fraservalleyrec.org, 970-726-8968 x108 to complete these forms. We look forward to seeing you! European Knitting & Crochet
This is a class for beginners new to knitting, as well as for English knitters who want to learn the Continental style of knitting. Continental is considered by many the most efficient and speedy way to knit. The yarn is held in the left hand, and “picked” through the loops, as opposed to English style knitting, in which the yarn is held in the right hand and “thrown”, or wrapped, around the needle. We’ll cover the basics: cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. We’ll also learn about yarn weights, fibers, and knitting terminology. We will practice some easy patterns and knit a simple purse or a belt and crochet a potholder. We may start a shawl or a pillow cover. Get going on your Christmas gifts! Swim Club - Minnows Youngsters that are interested in getting more comfortable in the water are invited to join the entry level of the After School Swim Club. The group is meant for kids in the skill levels of 1-2 in the Learn to Swim program. We encourage that all participants be comfortable in the water and prefer that they have done at least one session of regular swimming lessons; however, this is not a requirement. The sessions are one hour in length, with the last 10 to 15 minutes set aside for play! There is a little of everything: Stroke Refinement, Personal Survival, Team Games, Buoyancy and Diving and the always popular playtime! Each session will be a different game to pique the participants interest. During the course, sessions will seek to improve the basic strokes and water skills as well as introduce more advanced techniques with safety and confidence in the water remaining a priority. The Functional Movement Screen is an assessment to document movement patterns that are key to normal function. Assessing these patterns, the FMS identifies functional limitations and asymmetries. These are issues that can reduce the effects of functional training and physical conditioning and distort body awareness. The FMS generates the Functional Movement Screen Score, which is used to target problems and track progress. This scoring system is directly linked to the most beneficial corrective exercises to restore mechanically sound movement patterns. The FMS score is used to track progress and identify exercises that will be most effective to restore proper movement and build strength.
