YOUR 5-STEP GUIDE to turning a dream charter get-away into reality

WHERE IN THE WORLD DO YOU WANT TO BE?

You can charter a luxury yacht almost anywhere in the world you wish to enjoy. For many, the Caribbean and Bahamas are popular choices for December through until March, while June to September sees most charterers enjoying the many options in the Mediterranean. Increasingly, Owners are locating their yachts in more “off-the-beaten track” regions to appeal to new demand from charterers: areas including Antarctica, the Norwegian Fjords, New England, the Indian Ocean and Australasia.

Every region has its own unique benefits. Your Fraser charter broker will share personal insight with you on recommended locations, ideas for personalised itineraries for what you can see and do there and local knowledge to help you choose exactly where you want to be. Below are just a few examples of where Fraser brokers have helped over 1,000 charter clients spend their quality time away from it all over the last few years.

YOUR 5-STEP GUIDE to turning a dream charter get-away into reality

CHOOSING YOUR PERFECT YACHT

THIS IS WHERE YOUR FRASER CHARTER BROKER REALLY COMES INTO THEIR OWN There are over 3,000 privately owned yachts from 24m (79’) up to over 136m (446’) available for charter in the world today. Each one comes with its own Captain and crew, including your own personal chef, different accommodation types, different facilities and toys, and each is able to fulfil different expectations. Using the information you have shared in Steps 1 and 2, your Fraser charter broker sources a selection of yachts that offer the perfect match for you. They will be looking at yacht size and style, the experience, specialities and language skills of the crew, the number of guest suites and beds (“berths”) on board, the yacht’s facilities, the water toys included, the locations and of course the availability of the yachts. In addition, and for your own peace of mind, every yacht your Fraser charter broker presents for your selection has been quality approved beforehand. Fraser charter brokers worldwide make a point of visiting and testing charter yachts and their crew all year round to ensure every yacht they recommend continues to offer the standards, quality and experience you can expect to enjoy.

In putting together your personal selection of yachts perfectly matched to deliver the best experience for you, your Fraser charter broker will be considering the following three key factors:

1

TYPE OF YACHT

2

FACILITIES & TOYS

3

THE CAPTAIN & CREW

TYPE OF YACHT – A BEGINNER’S GUIDE

When putting your personalised yacht selection together for the best experience for you, your Fraser Charter Broker will choose from the following:

MOTOR YACHTS

SAILING YACHTS

Whether you are looking for speed (Planing Yachts), stability and comfort (Displacement Yachts) or the best of both (SemiDisplacement), motor yachts tend to offer the following benefits:

Sailing yachts are frequently the preferred choice of purists – those in search of an organic, in-touch-with-nature experience, sometimes keen to unfurl the sails and get behind the wheel themselves. Whether opting for a Sloop, Ketch or Schooner (see the end of this guide for a full glossary of terms), sailing yachts offer the following rewards:

• Great space-to-size ratio, giving you more onboard space to enjoy, and added facilities such as pools, outdoor cinemas, multiple outdoor dining options, beach club lounge areas, saunas and/or spa areas • Lots more tenders and toys, courtesy of extra onboard storage space • A high level of comfort and stability at anchor and while cruising (especially welcome for overnight cruising or seasickprone guests) • The option of speed – just for the thrill of it, or for a power-packed itinerary with lots of island hopping in short periods of time • Increased safety for children, with higher railings than a sailing yacht • A greater selection of fun theme days and nights according to your requests and wishes, orchestrated by the crew, thanks to larger storage areas for props • More private space on the top deck while in port, shielded from passers by • Depending on the size, more chill-out areas to choose from for time away from fellow guests • A larger swim platform area for enjoying water sports and easily accessing the ocean for swimming

• Quieter than motor yachts - enjoy the sounds of the waves and nature while cruising • The experience is about the journey, not the destination - part of the draw is the actual sailing, not just arriving at the next port as quickly as possible • Ecological benefits: less fuel and a reduced carbon footprint • More inclusive experience – guests can be part of sailing the yacht • Connect with your environment as the yacht works in harmony with nature and the winds • In general, very passionate crew who truly love the oceans and life at sea • Worried about stability and the yacht heeling? No problem - catamarans are an excellent alternative to a monohulled sailing yacht, offering a stable platform with plenty of space on board

2 FACILITIES & TOYS On your charter experience, you will enjoy all that your chosen coastline has to offer – golf courses, shopping, sightseeing, spas, exclusive restaurants, nightclubs, maybe even heli-skiing or mountain climbing. But for many, the yacht you charter is as much of a destination as the location in which you are cruising. And whilst every yacht is special, some offer features that make your charter even more unforgettable. These are the features your Fraser charter broker is looking for when seeking out the perfect yacht for your experience. Below is just a glimpse of some of the features you can find on board: Wellbeing Fitness and relaxation play an important part in the enjoyment of most charter escapes and many charter yachts offer first-class facilities including: • Dedicated spa spaces featuring saunas, hammams and steam rooms • Massage studios • Fully equipped gyms – some with stunning 360° panoramic views • Yoga and workout spaces, indoor and out • Swimming pools (including with counterflow currents) • Hot-tubs • Hair & beauty salons For the ultimate wellbeing experience, the crew on

some yachts include professional massage and spa therapists, personal trainers, yoga therapists and beauticians. Entertainment All yachts boast excellent entertainment technology for you and your guests including satellite TV and impressive film libraries in multiple languages in all cabins and throughout the yacht. Some include bespoke, hi-tech cinemas both in and out, so you can enjoy screenings beneath the stars. Gaming consoles are widely available. Some yachts include pianos and other instruments for the musicians in your group, and if it is a party you want to have, your Fraser charter broker can source yachts with dancefloors and nightclub set-ups including club lighting, strobes, smoke machines, powerful sound-systems and even built-in karaoke! Connectivity Cutting edge technology including VSAT antennas, Sat Com equipment and specialist wireless access points keep you connected and online anywhere in the world. So whether you want to continue operating your business, ensure your children’s ongoing online education or, when they are finished, their ongoing gaming competitions, you can have all you need including conferencing facilities and dedicated workspaces. Activities Whatever your favourite activity or sport, there is a yacht that can facilitate it for your charter. The best charter yachts are loaded with tenders and toys that make the charter experience more special for you, your family and guests. Many yachts come with onboard instructors, including those qualified to deliver jet-ski licences to guests. If not, they can usually be brought on board.

Some yacht toys you can expect to enjoy during your charter: • jet-skis • Seabobs • JetLevs /fly boards • Surfing and kitesurfing gear • Kayaks & canoes • Stand-up paddle boards • Inflatable slides • inflatable toys • pools • floating docks Other facilities can include putting greens, golf tees using biodegradable balls containing fish food, poker tables and casino rooms, basketball courts and even ski rooms. For those keen to explore under the water, some yachts carry 2 or 3 person submarines operated by onboard specialists. Others offer dedicated dive centres complete with hi-spec decompression chambers and professional scuba gear with trained PADI instructors often part of the crew

3 THE CAPTAIN & CREW At the very heart of every successful and unforgettable charter experience lies the seamless and influential service and smile of your Captain and crew. These are the professionals that bring everything to life – facilitating every wish and request with courtesy and diligence. As much in charge of your safety as your pleasure, your Captain not only pilots your yacht, but also takes care of all onboard administration and directs your crew to ensure they meet all your expectations. Most Captains have an indepth knowledge of all the areas where you will be cruising including best dive sites, secluded beaches, coves and anchorages. They maintain

a concierge-type network that allows you to enjoy everything from a premium tee time at the local private golf course to the very best table reservations at any restaurant. Charter yacht crew not only deliver a 24-hour hospitality service of excellence, they offer additional professional skills to enhance your charter experience. Many yachts include massage therapists, yoga and Pilates instructors and personal trainers to help keep you focussed on achieving those personal fitness goals. Drone pilots create permanent memories of your charter holiday from every possible angle. Interior crew transform deck spaces for unique themed evenings, from a Venetian terrace to a Vegas casino with the know-how to make any event on board magical. Onboard Dining For many, the most important person onboard is…the chef. Your dedicated chef prepares your meals on board using the finest fresh and often locally-sourced ingredients, with menus adapted to your tastes and dietary plans. Often hailing from Michelin-star restaurants, chefs are able to cook your favourite dishes at any time you choose, which can be served anywhere on board. Inspired by world cuisine from Mediterranean to Asian to Middle Eastern, they can offer fine dining (or burgers at 3am!) served in a family or formal setting or anything in between. All served by your interior crew with the wines and vintages of your choosing. SUMMARY In short, the selection of yachts proposed by your Fraser charter broker will offer you the yacht size and style, captain and crew, toys and tenders, location and availability to match your dream perfectly. All that’s left for you to do is choose!

YOUR 5-STEP GUIDE to turning a dream charter get-away into reality

BOOKING YOUR CHARTER

The steps to booking your charter, once you have chosen your perfect yacht and confirmed your destinations and dates, are very straightforward. Your Fraser charter broker takes you through the process every step of the way.

1 YOUR CHARTER CONTRACT – DRAFTING & SIGNING

Once you have chosen your yacht and confirmed where and when you want to go, your Fraser Charter Broker will draft your Charter Contract. This is designed to confirm the details of the charter, the charter parties and all payment terms. Depending on the area where the yacht operates, your Fraser Charter Broker will be using industry standard and approved terms with approved associations MYBA (Worldwide Yacht Brokers Association) or AYCA (American Yacht Charter Association), ensuring your interests are protected throughout. Your Fraser Charter Broker will answer any questions you may have.

2 YOUR CHARTER RATES & PAYMENTS Your Rates The charter rate for your yacht is set by the Owner. It includes fixed costs such as the hire and insurance of the yacht, the yacht’s toys, crew food and wages, yacht laundry and basic sundry items.

Depending on where and when you are chartering, local taxes may be applicable, and your Fraser Charter Broker will advise as to what they are depending on the yacht selected and itinerary. All other expenses are part of what is called the APA (Advanced Provisioning Allowance). These include but are not limited to food, wine, spirits, soft drinks, fuel, dockage, and communication costs. To enable the yacht to provision prior to embarkation, your APA is collected in advance of your charter. This is usually 30% of your charter fee though it can vary depending on your charter programme. At the end of your charter, all expenses are accounted for by the Captain and any unused funds are returned to you. Should you exceed the original amount of APA paid, you will settle the difference upon disembarkation. The Captain will be able to provide you with all invoices and receipts. If extra costs are incurred due to the necessity for delivery/re-delivery of your chosen yacht to your chosen location, your Fraser Charter Broker will discuss this with you before you book. These costs are charged separately from the APA.

Once your yacht is booked, your Fraser Charter broker will be working to polish off all remaining details for your charter. One of the most rewarding of which is ensuring the yacht is fully stocked with all your preferred provisions for your charter. You share all your wishes for your favourite wines, drinks, menu styles, dietary requirements, and a range of other key requests in one place – your Preference Sheet. Your broker then liaises with the yacht’s captain to ensure the right products are ordered and delivered to the yacht and the interior crew are briefed on all your lifestyle requests whilst onboard.

From the moment you and your guests are welcomed at the passerelle (entrance walkway) of your chosen yacht, you embark on an experience that is 100% tailored around you.

For your protection, funds are paid into a Fraser bank account, from which they are forwarded to the Stakeholder where funds are held in an Escrow account until the date of your charter.

Frequently Asked

QUESTIONS WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY CHARTER? For the greatest choice of yachts with availability for your preferred dates, we recommend booking at least six months in advance – or up to 12 months for charters in remote destinations. Should the idea to charter be last-minute, you can still rely on your Fraser Charter Broker to find you a yacht. HOW LONG CAN MY CHARTER LAST? As long as you wish! Most charterers book for periods of 7-10 days at a time. However many clients book for 3-9 weeks and more, with their sets of guests changing every few weeks. An increasing number of clients also book longer for more extensive trips which include onboard tutoring for children and fully operational office set-ups. In some cases, some yachts can be available for bookings as short as one day. WHAT ARE HIGH RATE & LOW RATE WEEKS? High week rates are, as you can imagine, when the most amount of demand for yachts is in play, these periods include July and August and special event periods such as the Monaco Grand Prix, Cannes Film Festival, Christmas and New Year. Low rates are offered at all other times. Your Fraser broker will be able to give you the precise rate for your requested period.

Useful yacht terms & definitions PLANING HULL – a hull that is designed to rise up and glide on

top of the water when enough power is supplied.

DISPLACEMENT HULL – a hull that pushes the water aside, designed to cut through the water with very little propulsion. SEMI-DISPLACEMENT HULL – a hull that displaces water at low

speeds but is able to generate lift at cruising speed. It is more stable than planing hulls, and faster than displacement hulls.

CAN WE STAY CONNECTED WHILE ON BOARD? Most modern motor and sailing yachts have internet connectivity where geographically available. In well-connected areas, entertainment, phone connection, gaming, entertainment, TV + satellite are easily accessible. IS IT POSSIBLE TO TAKE MY DOG ON BOARD? Dogs and pets are considered on a case-by-case basis. Some yachts are open to allowing animals. Your Fraser Charter broker will advise as to which yachts can accept pets and will negotiate on your behalf with your preferred yacht to see if it possible. A security deposit is normally required and you are asked to take care of your pet throughout your charter. HOW MANY GUESTS CAN I INVITE FOR MY CHARTER? For the majority of charter yachts, depending on their size, regulations permit up to 12 people sleeping on board. However, some large yachts are permitted to sleep more. In some cases, extra guests are allowed on board during the day (this is known as the number of guests ‘cruising’), but they must disembark overnight (the number of guests ‘sleeping’ will be specified). A different set of rules apply for yachts that are moored during an event with some able to host up to 100 guests or even more. Your Fraser Charter Broker will always be able to advise you on the rules. CAN I SMOKE ON BOARD? This differs between yachts. If smoking is allowed, it is outside only.

SLOOP - a small sailing boat with one mast. KETCH - a two-masted sailing vessel, fore-and-aft rigged, with a tall mainmast. SCHOONER - a sailboat with at least two masts, with the forward (foremast) being a bit shorter than the main mast. BOW – the front of the yacht. AFT – the rear of the yacht. PORT - Facing forward, this is anything to the left of the boat. STARBOARD - Facing forward, this is anything to the right of the boat. GALLEY - an onboard kitchen. SKY LOUNGE - a second salon on the upper deck. DAYHEAD – an onboard toilet.
