2020: RETHINKING OUR PRIORITIES?
A longstanding charter client of Fraser, a very creative gentleman, recently wrote to us to say that the last edition of FUSE had ignited his plans to make 2020 the year he finally found and purchased a yacht for his family. That play on words was, as you can imagine, music to our ears. For me, it also underlines a common theme the unusual events of this year have brought to the fore for all of us. As one long time yacht Owner recently commented, “shrouds don’t have pockets”, and life really is about making the most of it. This year has seen many of us reconsider our values, how we spend our time… and how much of that time is of quality. Our choices seem to be well illustrated by the data since March — an increased demand for ‘get-away’ residences in prime vacation locations around the world and a seemingly undiminished interest and activity around yachting. As you will see from our Market Intelligence feature, not only are yacht sales above 24m (79’) currently surpassing those of 2019, and pacing at over 26% above the annual average for the last 11 years, the demand for chartering, regardless of the logistics, is also remaining strong.
As any yacht Owner or charterer will tell you, there is something uniquely special about the time you spend with those you care for, on the water, on board a yacht. It may be the ability to disconnect if you wish, to get back to nature, to feel the sun and the wind on your skin, to rid yourself of the ‘noise’ of everyday life. It may be enjoying the facilities yachts have to offer from a quiet, comfortable space away from it all to water toys, beach clubs, gyms, well-being centres, dining areas (inside and out) and of course your own personal 5-star 24/7 hospitality offering the cuisine, service and overall experience tailored just for you. So regardless of where your search takes you for the quality time 2020 may have helped you realise you genuinely deserve, I wish you every success in finding it.
