1 Peter 1:3-5
(Philippians 2:9-11) Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
(1 John 2:12) I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for his name’s sake.
(1 Corinthians 6:11) But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
(1 Corinthians 5:4) When you are assembled in the name of the Lord Jesus…
(John 20:31) but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
(Psalm 18:4-6) The ropes of death entangled me; floods of destruction swept over me. 5 The grave wrapped its ropes around me; death laid a trap in my path. 6 But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears.
1. When I am hopeless, I feel entangled and unable to stop the waves of emotions.
2. Hopelessness is the clue to my soul that it is time to cry out for help.
3. The promise is that God will hear and listen.
We will either cry out in our hopeless feelings or give in to our hopeless feeling.
(Job 6:11&13) But I don’t have the strength to endure. I have nothing to live for… No, I am utterly helpless, without any chance of success.
(1 Peter 1:3-5) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
1. I can have hope because of my past transformation.
2. I can hope from the future because of the promises of God.
3. The past and the promises live in the present.
(Titus 2:11-13) For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. 12 And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, 13 while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed.
(John 14:18) I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
(James 4:8a) Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.
