HEY were there for us — and for each other! After being delayed several times, the muchanticipated Friends reunion finally hit HBO Max May 27. And it was emotional for the long-running 1990s sitcom’s stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer. “It was an incredible time,” Courteney, 56, mused of the must-see show. “We became best friends.” Visibly moved, 51-year-old Matthew — whose fast-talking Chandler famously never shed a tear — announced, “I’m gonna cry now.” The tears were real. “We have such a
bond from this show,” Lisa, 57, explained. And it wasn’t just about kidding around on set. In 2002, the sextet famously banded together to demand a then-unheard-of $1 million per episode, with each actor paid equally (the show ran on NBC from 1994 to 2004). The mega-hit sitcom gained a second life — and countless new fans — when it streamed on Netflix. During the twohour special, the actors revisited favorite scripts, including 1999’s “The One Where Everybody Finds Out,” during which Monica and Chandler’s secret affair comes to light. Without missing a beat, they were back in character. “Everyone

The reunion wasn’t without its critics, however, with some objecting to Late Late Show host James Corden stepping in to moderate a portion. Fans lamented that one of the series’ many memorable guest stars, from Bruce Willis and Paul Rudd to Reese Witherspoon, wasn’t tapped for the job. All in all, it was a feelgood meet-up. T’S not easy being queen. And the last few years have been especially tough on Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. The 95-year-old royal has had to contend with the drama surrounding Prince Harry and wife Meghan Markle (deemed “Brexit” by the disapproving UK tabloids); the Covid-19 pandemic and, worst of all, the devastating loss of her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, who died on April 9 at the age of 99. “It’s just been one thing after another,” says a Palace insider. “And Philip’s death has affected her more than anyone could imagine.” So much so, the insider says the matriarch is ready to step down after her 69-year rein. While not unprecedented, her abdication is highly unusual — and it could get messy. According to the insider, Elizabeth is seriously considering skipping over unpopular heir-to-the-throne Prince Charles, 72, in favor of her young and beloved grandson, Prince William. “The word in her inner circle is that she’s favoring William over Charles,” the insider reveals. “She feels William is a more suitable contender, especially given his age.” As the monarchy continues to modernize, the queen feels William, 38, and wife Kate Middleton, 39, “are far more relatable to the public,” says the insider. Despite her grief, she’s said to have broken the news during a family summit following Philip’s April 17 funeral — the first time the clan was reunited since Harry and Meghan left the UK in Janu-

CORONATION PLANS A coronation for William and Kate would be a spectacle like no other. (Their April 2011 wedding drew 16.7 million viewers.) It would likely contain all the pomp and circumstance of Elizabeth’s 1953 coronation, which was watched by 27 million people in the U.K alone. A then 27-year-old Elizabeth was driven from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey in a gold horse-drawn coach wearing a crown made in 1820 featuring more than 1,000 diamonds and a white satin gown embroidered with the emblems of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth in gold and silver thread. The state occasion would take months to plan, adds the insider. And unless things change, Harry and Meghan won’t attend. “Harry a loose cannon at the moment. Barring a miracle, they won’t be on the invite list.” STILL TRYING In the meantime, Charles is hoping the queen will reconsider her position. “Charles is praying that his mother’s emotions over losing Philip are clouding her judgment, and that she’ll change her mind once she’s gotten over the grieving process,” says the insider. “He’s promised to prove himself and work harder than ever,” the insider adds. But his pleas are falling on deaf ears. “William is mature beyond his years and it’s important to Elizabeth to pass the crown to someone who’s popular — and who can take on the role without any baggage.” ★
BEA’S BABY JOY!
Finally, some good news! Nearly one year after tying the knot last July, Princess Beatrice and husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are expecting their first child. “The queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news,” Buckingham Palace announced on Instagram on May 19. An insider says the mom-to-be, 32, has been turning to her younger sister, Princess Eugenie — who welcomed son August in February — for advice. “Eugenie has offered to give her some of August’s hand-me-downs and help her decorate the nursery.” The sibs, cousins to William and Harry, are thrilled to be having children so close in age. “They can’t wait for the cousins to have play dates and spend their first Christmas together,” says the insider.
HANDS-ON PARENTS A source previously told Star the queen is “beyond proud” of how Kate and William have juggled parenthood with their royal duties.
