Louise:

‘SEEING JAMIE MOVE ON IS

HEARTBREAK She’s ‘blindsided’ by the news that her ex is having a baby

he’s spoken about the sadness and regrets she’s had since ending her marriage to Jamie Redknapp in 2017 – not least in her recent book You’ve Got This. But heat has been told that Louise Redknapp now wants to eat her words, and wishes she’d not been so raw and honest on a public platform, after finding out last week that Jamie is expecting a baby with his girlfriend Frida Andersson-Lourie. According to insiders, Louise was “blindsided” by the news,

S

which she reportedly found out from family, rather than Jamie himself, who’s keeping quiet on the subject. And, despite steeling herself for the day that her ex would finally move on for good, she had no idea that it would happen so quickly – Jamie and Frida only started dating last August. Although friends have said she is happy for them, we’re told she is reeling and struggling to take it all in. “Lou has been struggling to get her head around the news,” says an insider close to the 46 year old, who shares two sons, Charley, 16, and Beau, 12, with Jamie . “She feels embarrassed about how honest she was in her book,

www.heatworld.com 5-11 June 2021

especially where she said at one point that she wished she’d tried harder to work on their marriage. She thinks she looks stupid now, as Jamie has properly moved on and she’s still alone and finding it hard to date. Lou thought Jamie was just having a bit of fun when he started dating Frida last year. But then everything happened at warp speed.” Louise and Jamie ended their 19-year marriage in 2017, with the singer saying at the time that she’d “lost [her] confidence” and a part of herself during their relationship, and had grown tired of being a “Stepford wife”. She’s since spoken about the challenges she’s faced

in coming to terms with the divorce, saying she felt she had “f**ked things up” between them. She also said she wished she’d been open with Jamie at the time about what she was going through, in the hope that they might be able to work things out together. Louise recently described herself as being “very, very single” and has said she’s only dipped her

KING’ toes into the dating pool with limited success thus far. Meanwhile, Jamie and Frida were pictured last week looking happier than ever –Frida also appeared to thank several people on Instagram who congratulated her on the news, replying with prayer-hand emojis. The 37-year-old Swedish model has four sons of her own, who she lives with in west London, from her marriage to a super-rich American hedge fund manager 21 years her senior. So, the loved-up expectant parents will certainly have their hands full with seven kids between them when the new baby arrives. As heat has told you, Louise’s recent book has given her a certain sense of closure, and she’s been feeling more positive about moving forward and possibly settling down with someone new.

But Jamie’s baby revelations have hit her hard, especially as she and her ex currently have a great co-parenting relationship, and regularly spend time together, which she is no doubt worrying might change. And it didn’t help that Jamie’s dad Harry weighed in on the baby news last week, saying he was “really pleased” to be expecting another grandchild during a radio interview. Now, we’re told that Louise is worried that she’s being “replaced”. Our source says, “Her biggest fear was always Jamie starting a new family with someone else and it affecting their dynamic. She’s not going to stand in the way of the boys getting to know Frida and their new sibling, but the thought of them being in family photos together without her really is heartbreaking.” Q CHARLOTTE OLIVER

ith all those sleepless nights and pooey nappies beckoning, who can blame Leigh-Anne Pinnock for enjoying some R&R while she can? The pregnant Little Mix star shared a series of sizzling bikini shots on Instagram last week, looking amazing as she cradled her baby bump on the idyllic sandy beach. Leigh-Anne, 29, whose first baby with fiancé Andre Grey is due later this year, captioned the palm tree-filled shot with, “Hormones racing and feet are swollen af, but counting my blessings every day for the miracle growing inside me.” The singer also shared a photo of herself in a bikini from last year, alongside one of her now, writing, “The human body is a beautiful, fascinating thing.”

Her followers rushed to compliment the mum-to-be, with one writing, “You look incred!!!” while another called her a “Beautiful Mama.” A third gushed, “So so so beautiful,” The singer – who’s won praise for her BBC3 documentary Leigh-Anne: Race, Pop And Power – announced her pregnancy last month. It came shortly after news of her engagement to her footballing partner of five years, and a week before bandmate Perrie Edwards shared her own lovely baby news with footballer Alex OxladeChamberlain. The pair have talked openly about their experiences, with Leigh-Anne revealing cravings for “prawn sandwiches, but the M&S kind”. Same, but without the baby excuse.

Chelsea buns in the oven

ast week, Binky Felstead managed to sneak in a baby shower just before she popped, celebrating with her baby daddy Max and former Made In Chelsea co-stars Rosie Fortescue and Louise Thompson. The 30 year old called it “the most glorious day”, and it was certainly fit for a Chelsea prince – Binky and Max are expecting a baby boy – as her garden had been stylishly decked out with the classic balloon arch and a sumptuous spread. She also posed alongside Louise, who has recently announced she is

pregnant herself. Binky captioned the picture of them clutching their bumps, “Seems so funny looking back at all the hilarious memories, ups and downs and amazing experiences we’ve shared together growing up. And here we are older, a little wiser… and stronger than ever with a couple of buns in the oven!” Binky’s baby will be little brother to three-year-old India – a daughter from her previous relationship with Josh Patterson – and Binky says India can’t wait to help bath and feed her brother. Wonder how long that’ll last?

If it is, that little girl is going to have an army of protective big brothers throughout her life.” She’s yet to find out the baby’s gender, adding, “The main thing I want is for the baby to be healthy. And if it’s not a girl, we’ll just try again.”

ig congrats to Mrs Hinch, aka cleanfluencer Sophie Hinchcliffe, who welcomed her second son – named Lennie Alan James – last week with husband Jamie. The Instagram star told fans, “Our hearts are so full… We are so very grateful and SO in love,” as she debuted the tiny tot, adding, “Thank you so, so much for all of your beautiful well wishes and messages checking in on us. Your support and love means the world.” Sophie later explained the reason they’d chosen the name Lennie, saying, “Both me and Jamie loved the fact Lennie rhymes with Ronnie [their two-year-old son], but also when shortened to Len rhymes with Hen [their beloved cocker spaniel].” Can’t fault the logic.

KATHERINE’S NEW MINI-ME Katherine Ryan announced last week that she is expecting a baby with her childhood sweetheart Bobby Kootstra. The baby will be sibling to her 11-year-old daughter Violet, from a previous relationship. Q 5-11 June 2021 www.heatworld.com

LOVED-UP POSH & BECKS HIT NYC Every night is date night for these two

A

fter a roller-coaster few years of rumours about the state of their marriage, it’s with genuine joy that heat can report David and Victoria Beckham currently seem genuinely… happy. The pair enjoyed a series of date nights in New York last week, where they looked relaxed and loved-up. And insiders say it’s no front. We’re told the couple – who will celebrate 22 years of marriage next month – have been in a better place than ever in recent months, after David vowed to spend more time with his wife. “Everyone’s noticed the change in them,” says an insider close to the A-list pair, who are parents to Brooklyn, 22, Romeo, 18, Cruz, 16, and Harper, nine. “Even the kids have noticed how happy their mum

and dad are lately. They are back in that place where they’re a great couple again. The vibe and magic is there, and they’re clearly really enjoying each other’s company.” The pair – who married in July 1999 – held hands and smiled in pictures shared on Instagram last week. Fashion designer Victoria, 47, tagged her husband in an intimate picture from dinner, writing, “Date night in NYC… ” The next day, she posted another shot with the former footballer, commenting, “Two date nights in a row, lucky you.” David, 46, was quick to gush, too, sharing a shot of himself laughing with his arm around his wife, along with several more pictures of them having dinner together. Our insider says, “David and Vic were so keen to have a trip away that

they synced their business calendars so they could be in New York together. They wanted to mix business with pleasure – which is something they never used to do. It was a whirlwind of lunches, appointments, drinks and dinners – all together, and all holding hands.” It’s rare the pair get quality time together, often working – and living – on opposite sides of the globe. But we’re told things changed after their recent four-month relocation to Florida, where David was working with his football team. “They were forced to quit the rat race for a bit,” says the insider. “Their previous schedules had been so gruelling. The lockdown changed that, as it gave them the gift of time as a family. It’s Becks and the city

Then they had a few wonderful and unscheduled months in Miami, where they realised a huge part of their problem was never spending quality time together. They were both always too exhausted and stressed out.” And since returning to London, we’re told the couple are determined not to slip back into bad habits. “Returning to the old routine of school runs and business meetings has been tough,” says the insider. “So, when David said he had a meeting in New York and asked Victoria to come along, she jumped at the chance. He’s told her that he wants to make up for lost time and really start appreciating each other more. They’ve both decided it’s time to have more fun in their lives.” We love to see it. Kate & Wills take Scotland The pair revisit the place where they fell in love

t’s been a good 20 years since their student days, but Prince William and Kate Middleton fell straight into old habits on a royal visit to their university town last week. The pair called it “a trip down memory lane” as they charmed students on campus at their beloved St Andrews and hit the local beach for a bit of sand yachting. But it also proved to be an emotional week for Wills, who described his “saddest” memories of being in Scotland when he lost his mother. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were welcomed with open arms on their Scottish charm offensive, as locals declared them “very personable” and “lovely people”. William, 38, kicked off the

tour with a speech, opening up about his ties to the country. “The connection I feel to Scotland will forever run deep,” he said, revealing that he was at the Queen’s Balmoral home in 1997 when his mum, Princess Diana, died. But he added, “Alongside this painful memory is one of great joy because it was here in Scotland, 20 years ago this year, that I first met Catherine. Needless to say the town where you meet your future wife holds a very special place in your heart.” Kate, 39, joined him on Tuesday, and stole the show with her tartan looks. She wore a scarf to officially open The Balfour Orkney Hospital and, later, a stunning Holland Cooper

coat to a screening of Cruella in Edinburgh with NHS workers. The couple – who are known in Scotland as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn – also enjoyed a takeaway at one of their old regular student haunts, Anstruther Fish Bar, with staff

Being royal isn’t for her, being a duchess is… royal family. “She’s told Harry that they need to tone down the attacks on the royal family – she’s afraid they’ll take away their titles, which would be a PR disaster. Right now, she’s inundated with offers, and that’s in part due to being a duchess.” Meghan’s fears come amid reports that the Queen had signed off on Harry’s bombshell documentary series The Me You Can’t See back in 2018, but had “no idea” that he’d be slamming his childhood and Prince Charles’ parenting. An insider has claimed that Harry delivered a “misleading” pitch to his grandmother at the time, telling her it would be about soldiers’ mental health. Q

And last month, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly tested the royal family’s patience to the limit, after Prince Harry spoke out again against his family, accusing them of “neglect”, and saying his father has brought him up as part of a “cycle” of suffering. But while Harry seems hell-bent on expressing his upset, sources tell us Meghan’s feeling apprehensive. And it’s all down to reports that, with the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince William all said to be “deeply upset” by Harry’s outbursts, there are calls for him and Meghan to be stripped of their titles. Which would wreak havoc on their Sussex brand. “Meghan doesn’t want to give up being a duchess,” says an insider close to the former actress, who – since marrying Harry in 2018 – has used “The Duchess of Sussex” on all platforms, even writing children’s book The Bench under the name, despite being vocally critical of the

Emotional Stacey’s wedding wobbles lanning a wedding isn’t easy at the best of times, but with COVID restrictions causing uncertainty for so many couples, it’s no wonder bride-to-be Stacey Solomon is feeling the pressure. The 31 year old got engaged to Joe Swash on Christmas Eve, and the couple are planning on getting married this summer. But between moving into their new £1.2m house, and talk of restrictions lasting beyond 21 June, we’re told Stacey is stressing out about the whole affair. “Stacey feels like such a nervous wreck right now and the wedding planning is only stressing her out more,” a source close to the TV star tells heat. Everything is great with Joe, but it seems to be the actual planning of the event – set to take place in the grounds of their home in late July – that is causing the mum of three to reassess. DIGGING THE DANCING QUEENS

We’re spending this week scratching our heads over The Masked Dancer

W

e’re so glad we didn’t have to wait all that long after The Masked Singer finished to get our notebooks back out and reignite our detective skills. This time around, it’s The Masked Dancer that has us frantically Googling random celebrity facts and rewatching clips with more concentration than an episode of Line Of Duty. Considering in the last series of The Masked Singer, A-Ha’s Morten Harket sang his own song, without disguising his voice, and we still struggled to guess him correctly, we’re not surprised we’ve had more bad guesses than even Jonathan Ross this time around. Working out celebs from their gyrating hips has not been an easy task.

www.heatworld.com 5-11 June 2021

As panellist Davina McCall says, it’s important to do your homework. “I love the guessing. I like trying to piece it all together and I like going back through my notebook. I recommend everyone gets themselves a Masked Dancer notebook – you will fill it with clues. I’ve got pages and pages. Mo still writes nothing. Still! Honestly, it would give me such anxiety, but somehow, he always pulls something out of the bag.” In the opening episode, Davina even admitted she’d done some research before the show using a pretty helpful resource. “I’ve read the last 17 years of heat magazine since I last saw you,” she told host Joel Dommett. “I’ve written down every single name I’ve ever heard.”

Davina, Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan and newcomer to the panel Oti Mabuse have thrown out guesses ranging from Maya Jama and Gary Barlow, to Margot Robbie and Mary Berry. And Mo admitted that, even if they do make his job harder, he’s been loving the costumes in this series. “I must really say that I love Scarecrow and Carwash! With Scarecrow, it feels like there’s no clues, but they can really dance. And Carwash is so good, I’m convinced this person is going to go back to being a carwash. That is how good the costume is! I would want to wear that to fancy dress.” Jonathan seems to be even more befuddled by the show – even forgetting it was a dance show in the first episode – as host Joel This show’s a real banger

“Do not adjust your sets…” If “dance” is in the title, Oti’s there!

IS CHERYL BEHIND A MASK? Well, golden girl Oti thought so

Dommett attests, saying, “Jonathan hasn’t in any way learnt from his two seasons of The Masked Singer. He still pretty much guesses everybody as Mary Berry or Angela Lansbury.” But he is full of praise for newcomer Oti. He says, “Oti has been brilliant, she’s a very keen bean. She’s come in and is very keen to prove herself early doors… Oti has the ability to go through the entire Strictly Come Dancing back catalogue, and know the dancing style of all the people who have been on the show. “She kind of has that knowledge, which none of us have, so it really genuinely helps. She’s coming out with some excellent names.” Q

Rita and Taika enjoy a twosome

hey say that good things come in threes – just ask Rita Ora. Last week, the singer was plunged into the centre of a “throuple” media storm, after being pictured apparently sharing a “three-way kiss” with her director boyfriend Taika Waititi and actress Tessa Thompson. The trio were loving life after an all-night party at Taika’s home in Sydney, Australia, as they sipped cocktails and snuggled up together on the balcony. But while snogging was apparently the order of the day, Rita has since remained tight-lipped, and refused to explain the nature of their “friendship” – despite sources telling us that she’s facing all kinds of pressure to “tone it down”. As far as she’s concerned, she can do what and who she wants. “It’s no secret that Rita is very sexually free and adventurous,” says an insider close to the singer, who’s been dating Taika since March, after splitting from director Romain Gavras earlier this year. “Taika has really taken her by surprise, because it’s her first relationship in a long time

after hosting a birthday party for 30 friends in London, and she’s since faced criticism for defiantly loving life in Australia, which is mostly COVIDfree with minimal restrictions, while she films The Voice Australia. As the world slowly returns to normal, it’s no surprise that Rita’s in a celebratory mood – and last week’s pictures show her really enjoying herself, as she kissed Taika, 45, and sat noseto-nose with Tessa, 37, who had her legs draped over the singer. Tessa and Taika also kissed at one point. But our sources tell us that her management and friends Tessa in Thor Ragnarok in 2017 are worried about her courting even more controversy with her boozy behaviour – especially as she seems to be increasingly unbothered about upsetting her fans. “Rita feels as though the public don’t really understand what’s going on, and are too judgemental to even try and get it,” says our source. “She just wants to have fun, and Taika and Tessa seem to be giving her what she wants.” Q CHARLOTTE OLIVER

where the guy hasn’t been jealous or insecure – he likes to party and loves her adventurous spirit. Rita feels free to be herself around him, which is partly why she’s had no qualms about getting so friendly with Tessa [who’s currently filming the Thor: Ragnarok sequel, directed by Taika]. All her friends are asking what the hell is going on between them – whether they’re an official ‘throuple’ or just having a bit of fun, but Rita’s been playing it coy.” Back in November, Rita, 30, was slammed for breaking lockdown rules,

ith everything that’s been going on in the past year, can you blame Ellen DeGeneres for running for the hills – or, indeed, Africa? After announcing the end of her long-running TV show, the star has told friends she’s planning a “soul-searching” adventure to reconnect with her wife Portia de Rossi. And they’re kicking things off with a few, er, gorillas. “Ellen is desperate for a break from Hollywood,” says an insider close to the 63 year old, who married actress Portia, 48, in 2008. “She needs a full six months off after her contract ends, and the first thing she wants to do is go straight to her gorilla sanctuary with Portia.” Gorillas have been a longtime passion for Ellen – Portia gifted her the gorilla sanctuary in Rwanda, built in Ellen’s name,

for her 60th birthday. But we’re told this is more about her and Portia, than rescuing animals. “She’s hoping this trip will help fix their rocky marriage,” says our insider. “She and Portia were so happy when they last visited. Ellen’s hoping she can reconnect with Portia, away from all the work turmoil.” Ellen recently revealed she is ending her chat show next year after a 19-season run. It follows allegations of a toxic work place, which lost the previously numberone rated show a whopping one million viewers. The star told fans she is “forever grateful to all of you for watching, for laughing, for dancing – sometimes crying.” Our source adds, “There’s a very gentle and sincere side to Ellen – it’s who Portia fell in love with, and who she’s hoping to find again in Africa.” Q

amid rumours that he’d flirted with another woman. “She was very stressed during those last few months with Alex, partly because of the problems they were having and partly because she felt her status and reputation had taken a knock. They’d both wanted to build a huge brand together, but it had reached a point where they just couldn’t agree on how to spend their money. With Ben, it’s more natural – they have tons in common.” During their four-year relationship, J-Lo and A-Rod invested in all kinds of ventures. Jen told Forbes, “Alex made me realise as an artist that the business world was searching for people like us, so they can build billion-dollar businesses.” But while he was interested in sports, we’re told Jen was more focused on fashion, music and movies. And not only does Ben, 48, share similar interests, he’s also in awe of Jen’s business acumen. As they see it, Bennifer is already a powerful idea, so why not use that to their advantage? “They’re brainstorming all kinds of commercial partnerships – the sky’s the limit,” says our source. “It’s all about finding the right thing and keeping it classy. And while we’re told they’re keeping their love on the downlow for now, friends tell us that they have some big plans for the future. According to insiders, the pair both know just how successful they can be when combining forces – heck, the Bennifer brand has a life of its own. And, while they may have blamed all the public interest and pressure for ending their relationship first time round in 2004, they’re both now older and savvier, and intend to fully embrace their potential as a couple. “Jen can’t wipe the smile off her face now that she and Ben are back on – it’s a huge score for her on every level,” says an insider close to the 51 year old, who – as heat recently told you – has been keen to save face after splitting from ex-fiancé Alex Rodriguez in April,

here’s always going to be the odd bump in the road when you’re dating someone new – especially if you’re as famous as Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker. But finding out he cheated on his ex-wife with your sister? That bump just became a car crash. heat has been told that the recent accusations about Kim Kardashian and Kourt’s musician beau have caused “total chaos” in the family, with Kourtney

Travis and his ex, Shanna

demanding answers. “This has totally blindsided Kourt,” says an insider close to the 42 year old, whose long-term friendship with the Blink-182 drummer turned into something a bit more serious earlier this year. “She confronted Kim, demanding she come clean with the full details of what happened between her and Travis. Kim wound up confessing they’d hooked up a whole lot more than she previously let on.” The news broke last week that Travis’ ex-wife Shanna Moakler, who he was married to from 2004 to 2008, had accused both Kim and Kourtney of “destroying my family.” The drama began when one of Travis and Shanna’s children, Alabama, 15, shared a screenshot online of a text from her mum that read, “I divorced Travis because I caught him having an affair with Kim. Now he’s in love with her sister… it’s all gross.” The former Miss USA later confirmed to Us Weekly, saying, “I saw them. I caught them having an affair.” She also told TMZ, “My family is broken because of this family, and now my kids and

I are alienated from each other, because of another sister.” Asked what she would say directly to Kim and Kourtney, she added, “Thanks for destroying my family twice.” An awkward 2006 interview from Travis, 45, also resurfaced where he talked about meeting Kim – who is now single after filing for divorce from Kanye West in February – calling her “eye candy” and adding, “I couldn’t keep my eyes off her.” Last week, Kim called the claims a “false narrative”, and our insider says, “Kim says it was just a few innocent hook-ups, and at no point did they fall for each other. She’s reassured Kourt there’s zero reason for her to be upset, but Kourtney feels like her trust has been broken.” The source adds that mumof-three Kourtney won’t be dumping Travis. We’re told, “She’s still totally besotted with him. She’s giving him a pass, but it’ll take a bit longer to forgive Kim.” Q ELIZABETH RYAN

Who’s showing up the rest of mankind this week?

Jason with his Queen – and King

HUSBAND GOALS #240

JASON DERULO

The 31 year old has long been on our hit list, but it was a steamy Instagram pic in 2019 that really caught our attention. It’s the one of Jason showing off his, ahem, not-so-mini Jason in a tight pair of undies, which Instagram removed due to its explicit sexual content. The singer was outraged at the time, saying, “F**k u mean? I have underwear on… I can’t help my size.”

SPLASHNEWS.COM

If his modesty isn’t enough, Jason’s also a talented singer and dancer, who somehow managed to be the only enjoyable thing in the cinematic cat-astrophe that was Cats . Sing it with us, “Da-da-da-da-da-da Jason Derulo…”

Guys, allow us to introduce you to the world’s latest DILF. Yes, Jason Joel Desrouleaux (or Jason Derulo, as he prefers to be called) has joined the likes of David Beckham, John Legend and Brad Pitt in our dad crushes, after welcoming his first son, Jason King Derulo, with girlfriend Jena Frumes. Which may make him even more unavailable than he was before, but also more desirable. Swoon.

GEO GEORDIES G GEORD ORDIES ORD RD DIES I S #39

They may be ten years older, but as Charlotte Oliver discovers, this lot still love a row ast your minds back to 2011, when Cheryl held the title as the UK’s most famous Geordie, with Joe McElderry a close second. But then all that changed when MTV plonked a small group of sex-mad young ’uns in a house together in Newcastle – or The Toon – drowned them in booze and let the sparks fly. Needless to say, it was telly gold and, alongside TOWIE and Made In Chelsea, created a new subset of reality TV stars. But while the Essex and Chelsea lot mainly kept to their “scripted” version of real life, the Geordie Shorers were more real, wilder and a lot more unfiltered than their counterparts. And, judging by our latest chat with four of the show’s stars, very little has changed. Speaking to heat ahead of their anniversary special, Geordie Shore: Ten Years On The Toon, series one OGs Charlotte Crosby, 31, and James Tindale, 30, plus Nathan Henry, 28, and Chloe Ferry, 25 – who both joined the show in series ten – take us on a mad and messy trip down memory lane.

JA M E S

Tell us about the anniversary special… Nathan: We jumped in Charlotte’s car, went to a few of our favourite haunts, revisited our favourite moments, and reminisced. It was eventful, to say the least.

Travelling to Cancun for the show in 2012

James: A lot of the places we went back to, we hadn’t been back there for years, it was mad. Do you think you’ve changed much in ten years? N: Oh, I’ve completely changed. When I first joined, I couldn’t speak. I was quiet and scared of everyone, and now I’m a gobby little bitch who runs around saying exactly what I think. J: I thought I was a big shot back then, but I was a little boy. I didn’t really know what was going on in life and I just wanted to have fun. Now, I’m a bloke. N: I mean, look at him! He’s a man. Chloe: When I went into the house, I’d just turned 19. I was a little girl, but I feel like I’ve grown into such a woman now. I’m ready for the next stage of my life. Don’t get me wrong, I do love a party, but I would now like to have a husband and kids. Charlotte: I think it would be hard not to have changed after all this time. What I will say is that I do feel really proud of myself and how far I’ve come since being on the show.

N: Who is this woman before us? J: That’s a changed Chloe there. N: It is, and I’m here for it! J: But I agree, I don’t regret anything. At the end of the day, we wouldn’t be the people we are now and I enjoy exactly who I am. How about the hair and fashion choices – no regrets there? N: Oh, of course! Everyone’s made some fashion mistakes. Chloe: Let’s be honest, at one point, we all looked very different. N: I used to look like Predator! I had braids, it was a full-on weave. J: I just went to H&M, bought all the cheap stuff and hoped for the best. I had a grey vest that was two sizes too small and cream jeans. Chloe: But that was the fashion, all the lads wore it back in the day. N: I don’t think it was! James is responsible for people going to the hairdressers and asking for the comb over. Charlotte: To be honest, I don’t think I looked that bad! The clothes back then were pretty cool, if I do say so myself. But good God, I wouldn’t wear any of it now. Maybe I’d tone down the tan, too. Chloe: I’m not going to lie, I still have no fashion sense. I was seeing someone and he said, “What the f**k are you wearing?” I need fashion help so bad. N: I will say that you have definitely got better. What are your favourite Geordie Shore memories? J: I loved Australia, going to the opposite side of the world. We’d be getting out of cars and

‘It’s fun to look back at how wild we were’ Were you nervous about revisiting the past? Charlotte: No, I just think, “Wow, we had so much fun.” It was like being uni students without any of the lessons. It’s fun to look back at how wild we were. Chloe: I feel you’ve got to just learn from your past. If anything bad happens, I take it as a positive because I can learn from that stuff.

have people recognising us. Charlotte: Travelling abroad was just amazing. Having the opportunity to go to places like Australia and Mexico for a job is something I’ll never take for granted, especially in these times. All I want is a bloody holiday! Chloe: I think in my second series, when I really started bonding with the girls and realised I had the most amazing job. I was just like, “I’ve found my people.” N: Whenever we go away, the real us comes out – we forget we’re at work, making a TV show. To put it quite honestly, we are wild, and that’s the true us. Would you want to relive those moments again? N: Oh God, yeah, we’ve been locked away for so long. Charlotte: But I find everything more exhausting now after lockdown. Sometimes I need a nap after I’ve been to the shop. Any bits you definitely wouldn’t want to repeat? Chloe: I wouldn’t have those fights that I used to have with the girls. But then, when you have arguments, it makes you closer.

Would you have the energy for those kind of rows now? Chloe: Oh, I still have a temper! N: At first, it’s like arguing with friends. But now we’re all so close, it’s like arguing with your siblings. It does get heated, but you’re always going to make up. Brothers and sisters piss each other off all the time! How do you feel about some people wanting to distance themselves from the shows that made them famous? N: I think it’s a shame. You wouldn’t be where you are now if it wasn’t for the platform you were given. Always be grateful for your opportunities. Fair enough, people grow up and change, but at the end of the day, you did come from that show. To deny it is basically denying your career. Charlotte: Geordie Shore is where I met my best friends, travelled the world and, without sounding big-headed, became a household name. It’s where it all began, so while I have moved on, it’s important to own where you came from as it’s how you’ve become the person you are today. God, when did I get so wise? Who’s surprised you the most? N: For me, Marnie [Simpson],

Normally, if I get those negative comments, I don’t care. But the other week, I had some bad news in the family and I just thought, “I need some time away.” I had two-and-a-half days off my phone and it was the best thing I’ve ever done. Then you just keep finding a new model and think, “This one’s good!” I’m a busy boy. Chloe: I’m dating someone at the minute and I’m having fun. I like him. Ten years on, what advice would you give your younger selves? N: I would say, prepare for your life to change completely. Put on your seat belt because you’re in for a very wild ride. And download Pinterest earlier – look at what people are wearing and dress better. Chloe: All of the above! J: You can never prepare yourself for what’s going to happen, just enjoy it. Charlotte: I’m not sure I’d give myself advice. I don’t regret anything and it’s brought me to where I am now. I actually wouldn’t change it for the world. THE BEST

TV BAFTAS We take a look at how this year’s crop of nominees is historically good

T

he British Academy Of Film And Television Arts, aka BAFTA, has faced its fair share of criticism recently. There was the #BaftasSoWhite controversy, when the acting nominees in the film awards of 2020 were all for white people, and then the recent calamitous decision to give Noel Clarke an Outstanding Contribution gong, which BAFTA then reversed when The Guardian newspaper reported that at least 20 women had come forward with serious allegations about his behaviour. The organisation must feel fairly relieved then that this weekend’s BAFTA TV Awards will steer the focus back to what they do best –

EVER?

rewarding outstanding talent. And this year’s nominations are arguably the best ever…

WHAT A DRAMA Of course, the credit for this fabulously rich and diverse crop of TV award nominations must primarily go to the creators and commissioners of the shows themselves. Reflecting a new level of quality in this era of Peak TV, the BAFTA members had an astonishing list of shows to consider in the calendar year of 2020, particularly in the world of TV drama. This was the year in which Michaela Coel expanded the boundaries of what TV drama can do with her ground-breaking BBC1 series I May Destroy You, based on events in her own life, but told in a dizzyingly ingenious

www.heatworld.com 5-11 June 2021

style. The BBC also gave us its near-perfect adaptation of bestselling novel Normal People, which became a bingewatching phenomenon. Those series nabbed eight and seven nominations respectively. Then came Small Axe – filmmaker Steve McQueen’s series of individual films reflecting the Black British experience in the late 20th century, the like of which we had never seen before – nabbing no less than 15 nominations. These shows are not only brilliantly acted and made, they’re also bold and fearless, as are the likes of porn industry drama Adult Material and Billie Piper’s stunning I Hate Suzie (five nominations each). The fact that these shows also represent the diverse reality of British society

means this list is in sharp contrast to that #BaftasSoWhite nightmare of the 2020 Film Awards.

THE JURY IS IN The impressive BAFTA TV list of nominees stretches to all areas of the industry, not just drama. It helps that the TV awards have always Normal People has been seven nominations decided by juries of TV

But the groundbreaking Coel is the one to beat. WILL WIN Michaela Coel SHOULD WIN Michaela Coel

BEST ACTOR

This category is full of heavyweight performances, with John Boyega and Shaun Parkes both nominated for their roles in Small Axe, while Josh O’Connor’s extraordinary portrayal of Prince Charles in The Crown is a strong contender. DRAMA SERIES

the iconic This Country, one of the few TV comedies to focus entirely on a working-class rural community, has four nominations. It’s also wildly funny. Finally, let’s not forget the only category voted for by the public – the Virgin Media Must-See Moment, which single-handedly reflects the amazing array of TV genres. There’s the ever-popular EastEnders, BGT and Gogglebox, costume drama smash-hit Bridgerton, Star Wars spin-off sensation The Mandalorian… and Nigella Lawson saying the word “microwave” in a weird way. This year’s TV BAFTAs truly has something for everyone.

SCRIPTED COMEDY It’s difficult to think of four more different shows than the ones in this category. On the face of it, Michaela Coel’s phenomenal I May Destroy You is the sure-fire winner here, but with BAFTA, you never quite know if they will pull off a shock – like when Fleabag failed to win for its incredible first series. The Crown is nominated for its fourth season – the one that introduced Margaret Thatcher and Lady Diana onto the scene – and it was deeply intriguing, while Gangs Of London had the most thrilling single episode, and Billie Piper’s I Hate Suzie was brilliantly done. Behind the lens of

REALITY TV We find out what it’s like to be the actual

fly on the wall on our favourite shows

I

f you’ve seen the opening episode of series two of Olivia Meets Her Match, you’ll know that it was at heat ’s Mother’s Day shoot – which involved copious glasses of Champagne, for only the most professional reasons – that Olivia Attwood got (in her own words) “half-pissed” before she’d even made it out of the make-up chair. Luckily, Olivia’s fans got to see every moment of hilarity that ensued, all

thanks to the reality star’s two-person camera crew, who were standing in the wings with rolling cameras in hand. While they were watching the action, we were watching them (out of curiosity, not creepiness, OK?) and it got us thinking about the people behind our favourite reality shows – the ones that live their subjects’ lives, walking the fine line between being invisible and invaluable. Who sometimes become

friends and family of the stars – even though the fans have never even caught a glimpse of them. So, heat spoke to a few industry insiders who could tell us what really goes on behind the lens.

#46

EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED “Our nine-to-fives are different every single day of the week, as we want to be there to capture the best moments, morning, noon and night,” says producer/director Jade, who works on Olivia Meets Her Match. “One day, we could be at Liv and Brad’s home as they discuss whether to adopt a dog, and the next we could be out in Essex watching Olivia and her mates dancing on tables. “It’s incredibly hard not to laugh out loud a lot of the time, especially with the constant one-liners Liv comes out with. Quite often, you’ll see the cameras shaking… but that’s her fault, not ours!” While competitive shows like MasterChef and “structured” reality series like TOWIE and Made In Chelsea have more finite shooting schedules and call sheets, the unpredictability of fly-on-the-wall series like OMHM, The Mummy Diaries and Keeping Up With The Kardashians means that the crew (usually two or three people on any given day) devote an inordinate amount of their lives to the lives they’re filming. And according to a US insider – who prefers to remain anonymous – sacrifices have to be made. “You will live and breathe the show you’re working on – especially in documentary-style shows,” she explains. “When you’re filming someone’s life, your life sort of has to exist within the parameters of their life. You may have to work super-late and skip out on plans. I was once working on a show about mothers giving birth, and I’d sometimes get a call in the middle of the night because a baby was being born and we’d have to race to hospital to film it.” The aim is to be inconspicuous – discretion is key. As a matter

Reality king Joey Essex

of course, every person working on a reality show must sign a non-disclosure agreement (Kris Jenner famously has a stack of NDAs ready and waiting on a table at the entrance to her house) but, as Jade tells us, it’s more than simply being tight-lipped. The aim is to be the stealthiest fly on the wall, camouflaging yourself into your subject’s everyday existence. “The whole point is for it to be as if we’re not there – this is what our viewers love most,” says Jade. “They can almost feel like they’re in the room while they’re watching at home.”

FOURTH-WALL FRIENDSHIPS And yet, the irony is that the closer and more “invisibly present” you get, the more significant you become. This year, the Kardashians are bringing their TV series to a close, following 14 years, 20

www.heatworld.com 5-11 June 2021

seasons and innumerable life events – all caught on camera, thanks to their largely unchanged crew. In one of the final episodes, we see the family tell the people behind the cameras that they’re calling it a day – and, as the cameras turn on themselves, we see the relationships that have developed across the divide. “Even if we don’t say it, I think of you guys as my second family,” says Khloé, before paying tribute to the crew again in her green screen interview, saying, “They have been through so many crazy, happy, sad, amazing situations with me. I’m so close to them – from my move to Dallas, when one of our camera guys was with me on Christmas Day so I wouldn’t be alone, divorces

and transitions, to literally having my vagina out while my baby was born, the list goes on. “I have such a security blanket in these people. To not have that anymore is a big thing. It sounds silly, but they’re my people.” The family’s parting gift to 30 of their behind-the-scenes nearest and dearest? A Rolex watch worth $10k for each of them. “We’ve all developed close friendships with Olivia and Brad [Dack, Olivia’s footballer fiancé],”

says Jade, who’s worked with the ITVBe star since the very first episode. “It’s hard not to when we’re with them day in, day out. We’ve witnessed all their highs and lows, from being there when they bought their first home together, to also seeing their setbacks, like when Brad had another unfortunate injury.”

REAL VERSUS REEL It’s finding that balance between disappearing into the background, and also being that trusted presence that makes the job so interesting – and challenging. But how involved are they when it comes to building the story? Unsurprisingly, there’s a wide spectrum. With shows like TOWIE and Made In Chelsea, the general party line is, “These are real people in modified

A dangerous moment on Below Deck

situations, saying unscripted lines but in a structured way.” According to an insider, “We don’t tell them what to say, but we tell them what to talk about. This is just so we don’t sit there rolling for hours, hoping something relevant comes up. It’s getting the conversation started.” The filming process tends to be more organic with fly-on-thewall series. With these, the story comes in post-production, when producers look at the raw footage and transcripts and edit the most interesting bits together to form a narrative. For that reason, it’s important that the cameras don’t miss a thing. A camera person’s priority? Getting everything on tape – no matter what. That being said, there have been rare exceptions in the past when the camera went down, but only

when it was a matter of life and death. In 2018, Bravo’s superyacht reality series Below Deck turned into a real-life disaster movie, after a line connecting the yacht to a smaller boat attached itself

capture the rest of the action. Like we said, every moment matters. There’s no doubt about it: life behind the camera on reality TV requires patience, stamina and discretion. But following the lives

‘You will live and breathe the show you’re working on’ around the ankle of deckhand Ashton Pienaar and dragged him into the water. As the yacht sped up, the line went taut, meaning Ashton was seconds away from having his foot severed and, possibly, bleeding to death. The deckhand only survived with his foot intact thanks to the quick thinking of cameraman Brent Freeburg, who dropped his camera and set the line loose. He then picked up his camera again to

of the rich and famous has its perks and, while we all love getting a window into their worlds, we can’t imagine the extra goss that those on the ground get daily. And, if you stick it out long enough, you might end up walking away from the job with a shiny Rolex on your wrist. Q CHARLOTTE OLIVER

‘It’s cool TO BE HEALTHY NOW’ #61

Bake Off 2019 winner David Atherton talks treats with a healthful twist

Y

ou’ve got to be pretty brave to put a twist on a Paul Hollywood classic and serve it up to him, but that’s exactly what 38-year-old health advisor David Atherton did in the Bake Off tent. His healthy substitutes initially drew scepticism, but he went on to lift the trophy and publish a book on healthy eating for kids. But his latest collection of recipes, Good To Eat: Real Food To Nourish And Sustain You For Life (Hodder & Stoughton, £25), is aimed at helping all of us eat better. We caught up with David over Zoom to chat how The Great British Bake Off is evolving, and how it’s changed his life forever…

Are you on a mission to make people realise healthy food is more than eating quinoa? People always think that healthy food has to taste “healthy”, and usually that means it’s a bit bland. But my mum is vegetarian and she’s a fantastic cook, so I grew up knowing healthy food could be really tasty. How did you get into cooking? There were five kids in my family and my mum made homemade bread for us every week. We never had shop-bought bread. She took us along with her with whatever she was cooking and made it really fun. She didn’t mind if there was a bit of chaos

5-11 June 2021 www.heatworld.com

David says: “Financiers are named for their resemblance to gold bars, and in my opinion, they are so good they could be used for currency. You don’t need to put pink colouring in the icing, but I think it makes these cakes look so pretty.”

#62

Winning with Paul and Prue

in the kitchen – it didn’t have to look perfect. Were you intimidated by Bake Off, being a different type of cook? Definitely. I’m happy to make things as a treat, but I’m not well versed in many of those skills. Bake Off was the first time I had made Italian meringue. But the first time we did vegan week was quite shocking. However, now, so many people are vegan and gluten-free. It’s actually cool to be healthy now. How did you come up with these new recipes? I’ve loved food my whole life, so I had a book ready in my head. It’s a curation of recipes from my family, my travels and things I’ve always loved making. In that sense, this book felt quite easy. The hardest bit was choosing which of my favourite recipes to put in. Has Bake Off changed your life? Yes! Nothing can prepare you for winning, as people immediately

start treating you as if you’re a professional, even though we’re all amateur bakers. I work in public health, particularly in nutrition, so I feel like I know my stuff, but I still do my job three days a week as it matches so nicely with this, too. Who have you grown close to in the Bake Off family? Our year was very close and I speak to Helena [Garcia] every single day – I mean, she can really talk! I’ve just met Yan [Tsou] as well, and we’ve been sharing a sourdough starter. You say in the book that you nicked a Thermapen from the Bake Off tent. Did you steal anything else? I took my apron home every single week and I also took my picture from the technical bake. I still get excited every time I hear that music – I don’t think I’ll ever lose that. Leave in the tin for five mins, then transfer to a wire rack to cool. 4 Beat the icing (confectioner’s) sugar, grapefruit juice and liquid glucose with enough pink food colouring to give it a blush. Pour half over the financiers, allow to set, then pour over the rest and sprinkle with the pistachios. Stored in an airtight container, these cakes keep nicely up to three days.

BANANA CHOCOLATE MUFFINS

MAKES 10 MUFFINS INGREDIENTS: 100g dark chocolate (70% cocoa solids), chopped into chunks 130g plain (all-purpose) flour 30g cocoa powder 100g soft brown sugar 2 tsp baking powder 1 very ripe banana, chopped 30g natural yogurt 50ml light olive oil 1 large egg 1 tsp vanilla extract 100g cooked quinoa 50g finely grated sweet potato Runny honey, to glaze (optional)

1 Preheat the oven to 200°C fan (220°C/425°F/gas mark 7). Prepare a muffin tray either by greasing or filling ten holes with paper cases. 2 Add the chocolate to a mixing bowl with the flour, cocoa, sugar, baking powder, and toss together. Blend the banana, yogurt, oil, egg, vanilla and quinoa until smooth, then add to a bowl with the sweet potato. Combine the wet and dry ingredients with a wooden spoon until just mixed,

then divide between the paper cases or muffin tin holes. 3 Bake for five minutes, then reduce the oven temperature to 150°C fan (170°C/325°F/ gas mark 3) and bake for a further 12-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean. If you like, glaze the tops with honey while they’re still a little warm. Best eaten fresh, but stored in an airtight container, they will last for up to five days.

athed in pastel pink tiles and palm tree-shaped sun shades, with sunloungers lined up like dancing girls, The Goodtime Hotel is like stepping onto a film set. The brainchild of Pharrell Williams and local Miami entrepreneur David Grutman, this is the hottest spot in the Sunshine State and has already hosted The Beckhams, Kim Kardashian and David Guetta. Fancy a nosy inside? Of course you do... The hotel was designed with the Art Deco history of Miami’s South Beach district in mind, so it’s

playful, fabulous and doesn’t hold back on the animal print – you’ll even get a leopard print robe to wear inside and outside your hotel room, which we’re totally on board with. Pharrell says he wants it to be a place filed with “good energy, good vibrations, good space and, of course, a good time,” and the singer has absolutely smashed it. The communal spaces such as the library and the hotel’s indoor/outdoor restaurant Strawberry Moons were inspired by Margot Tenenbaum – Gwyneth Paltrow’s character in the 2001 Wes Anderson movie The Royal Tenenbaums. Expect seriously kooky vibes with pink velvet, wicker animal statues and fringed sofas. Poolside, there are private cabanas where you can

Pharrell and order a David Grutman: Purple pooling their resources Rain cocktail and call your agent, plus a bar with flamingo-coloured light fittings and bar stools. The pool is candy striped with a catwalk running along the middle of it, and it’s all set against the backdrop of the sun-soaked Miami coastline. The 266 bedrooms have custom bedding, luxury bath smellies and retro pink telephones that’ll have you looking for an excuse to phone reception. Rooms cost from £167 a night. The US is currently on the UK’s “amber” travel list, but it’s hoped it will move to “green” this summer. Q

ROCKING DOWN DOG “Start on your hands and knees, then raise your bum into the air and straighten your arms and legs, so you’re resting on your hands and feet – essentially creating a triangle shape. Lifting your heels one at a time, pedal your feet up and down. I’d suggest doing this in intervals of 10-15. The Rocking Down Dog will work wonders in getting your feet used to the height of your favourite new heels.”

2

BALL ROLL

3

“Also known as the ‘arch roll’ exercise, this relieves the stress and tension in your feet. If you’re an avid heel wearer, then it is something you should be doing regularly if you want to avoid pain in your feet the next day. Roll your foot over a small, hard ball from toes to heel several times, moving from side to side throughout. If your feet are feeling particularly stiff, you can also vary the weight you’re putting on each foot to increase the intensity of the exercise.”

STANDING CALF RAISES

#67

“Stand facing a wall at arm’s length and step forward with your left foot. Place both of your hands directly on the wall in front of you at chest level, and slowly push your left knee towards the wall. This will activate and strengthen your calf muscle. Hold your leg in this position for a few seconds and then switch legs. It’s recommended that you do around 8-10 stretches per leg, but if your muscles are feeling the effects more quickly and you need a break, take one.”

we got some tips from Emjee Smit, founder of luxury footwear brand Kaya Capriole (Kayacapriole. com), to get you strutting in your stilettos once more.

4

“When standing, lift onto the balls of your feet and slowly return to the floor. Do this over and over again to strengthen your calves and shins – spend 5-10 minutes doing this exercise each day. Calf raises are ideal if you’re standing waiting for something! You’ll soon find that you feel much more centred and balanced when wearing tall high heels.”

5

TOWEL SCRUNCHES “This exercise is great for developing your smaller foot muscles. Lay with a rolled towel below your feet. Then, using only your toes, clutch the towel, hold for a few seconds, and then release. You can also do this in a seated position – however you feel comfiest. Another approach to towel scrunches is to lay the towel flat and roll it up using your toes. Alternate between each foot and you’ll slowly make your feet stronger than ever.”

ans of Hamilton will no doubt be buzzing to see In The Heights, the breathtaking film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical. Directed by Jon M. Chu – the man behind the epic romcom Crazy Rich Asians – this summer spectacular is bound to have you up on your feet and dancing. It’s set in New York City’s Washington Heights in the borough of Manhattan – a neighbourhood where the streets are made of music and

little dreams become big. Anthony Ramos plays Usnavi, the owner of a small bodega who serves as the film’s narrator. Speaking about his role, Ramos says, “Everyone in this movie has a dream, a sueñito, a goal, and we see how each person goes after those individually.” Melissa Barrera portrays Vanessa, who has been working at the local salon, Daniela’s – a local hotbed of gossip and colourful characters – while dreaming of a career in fashion about 170 blocks south of the Heights. Described as a “hip-hop version of Rent ”, Miranda wrote the show while he was still in college. Eventually, it made it to Broadway, where it was nominated

for 13 Tony Awards, winning four, including Best Musical. In The Heights fuses Miranda’s joyful Spanish-infused music and lyrics, with Chu’s authentic eye for storytelling, to create a musical portrait of a community full of lively numbers as diverse as its cast. It’s in cinemas from 18 June, but you can experience it for free, thanks to heat.

MY VERDICT ON…

Friends: The Reunion Sky/NOW on demand

Before We Die Lesley Sharp and Patrick Gibson are brilliant together as mother and son in this atmospheric crime drama adapted from the Swedish original. Channel 4, Wednesday, 9pm

A

s soon as it was announced that a Friends reunion was happening, fans assumed that would mean a new episode of the iconic sitcom in which, presumably, we’d get to see what had happened to Ross, Rachel, Phoebe, Chandler, Monica and Joey since the series finale in 2004. But that would have been a terrible idea. Those characters sailed off happily into their sunsets and we need to let them go. Much better, then, to bring the stars of the show together to celebrate their extraordinary pop culture phenomenon. Right from the moment when David Schwimmer walks tentatively on to the rebuilt set, and is then joined one by one by his fellow cast members, it’s clear this reunion show is special. It also feels authentic when Jen-An is welling up within seconds, and Courteney Cox is sobbing a few minutes later. It’s

such an overwhelming experience for the actors that it almost feels like we’re intruding. The genius of this special is that it seamlessly mixes these intimate fly-on-the-studio-wall documentary moments with lovely, freewheeling chat-show segments hosted by James Corden, along with skits like Schwimmer hosting a trivia quiz for his co-stars and new table-reads of classic scenes, plus surreal bits like Justin Bieber taking part in a Friends-themed fashion show. And smuggled in among this cornucopia of footage are revelations: Matthew Perry admitting how anxious he would be that his lines would get a laugh from the studio audience, and the amazing moment when Aniston and Schwimmer explain they had the hots for each other for real. The Reunion is as sweetly moving and giddily entertaining as Friends itself.

A QUIET PLACE PART II SCAN FORR TRAILE

CERT 15, 97 MINUTES, IN CINEMAS 3 JUNE

Starring: Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, John Krasinski Director: John Krasinski THE PLOT In 2018, director and co-writer John Krasinski scored a giant hit with his tale of an American family surviving in a world stalked by lethal creatures with ultra-sensitive hearing. Now, this sequel to A Quiet Place moves both backwards and forwards, first depicting the day of the alien invasion, and then following widowed mum Evelyn (Blunt), as she seeks a new place of shelter with kids Regan (Simmonds) and Marcus (Jupe) and her newborn baby. They soon stumble into a fortified hideout

www.heatworld.com 5-11 June 2021

occupied by their former friend and neighbour Emmett (Murphy) – but the prize of safety will require a further journey. WHAT’S RIGHT WITH IT? In 2018, heat acclaimed A Quiet Place for its ingenious, suspenseful premise (make a noise = you die), richly detailed world building and clever storytelling. All these elements are back in place, as well as elevated roles in the action for both Regan and Marcus – adding some extra emotional heft to the family dynamic.

WHAT’S WRONG WITH IT? It’s a sequel, so although there are plenty of fresh ideas on offer here, this is still very much the same world we discovered first time around. VERDICT After a release delayed by more than a year due to the pandemic, nerve-shredding survival tale A Quiet Place Part II proves amply worth the wait. ++++ Charles Gant

THIS WEEK...

What’s your sunshine anthem?

Heatoscopes Tuesday 1 - Monday 7 June

The all-seeing Jan Jacques tells you what the stars have in store this week

LEO 23 Jul-23 Aug

SAGITTARIUS 22 Nov- 21 Dec

A wicked Venus/Jupiter aspect is right up your street this week. It could mean romance and/or cushy money, possibly some sort of win. A healthy, happy week ahead with perhaps a work matter only briefly hampered by retrograde planets. LUCKY OUTLOOK: Satisfyingly upbeat

Your fabulous free spirit sometimes needs just a little check. You’re very independent right now, but retrograde planets call for more teamwork, especially job-wise. Elsewhere, a night out may have thrilling potential. LUCKY SAYING: No (wo)man is an island

An ambition doesn’t have to be just pie in the sky. Break it down into steps and try to tune out doubts, which are probably nothing more than a lunar eclipse hangover. Health-wise, shaking up a fitness routine may boost your energy. LUCKY AIM: Staunch self-belief

TAURUS 20 Apr-20 May

VIRGO 24 Aug-23 Sep

CAPRICORN 22 Dec-19 Jan

Your advice is often sought, but this week you can do the asking. Retrograde Mercury suggests a money matter will thrive with more input, so don’t do it on your own. Meanwhile, someone’s sincere compliment might make your pulse race. LUCKY IDEA: Outsourcing a problem

Few signs work as hard as you. And since a gorgeous Venus/ Jupiter suggests a stroke of financial fortune, retail therapy is justified and a welcome change of pace. Meanwhile, music may be especially calming this week. A lighter load

It’s finally time to tackle a longterm work dilemma. Dissecting it may be surprisingly painless, and right now you have the moxie to turn it around. Meanwhile, Mercury and Jupiter both retrograde suggest travel will be more smooth after the 21st. LUCKY ATTRIBUTE: An agile mind

GEMINI 21 May-20 Jun

LIBRA 23 Sep-22 Oct

AQUARIUS 20 Jan-18 Feb

Be careful not to be too kind, Gemini. Venus in your money house this week shows fine instincts and great generosity, but you really don’t owe anyone anything. Elsewhere, a home decision may need a swift rethink, but then it’s all systems go. LUCKY POSSESSION: A big heart

You’re switched on and clued-up right now. A terrific Venus transit says you’re at the top of your game. But are you sure you want any more responsibility right now? Meanwhile, a laugh with a pal is a sign of exciting times to come. LUCKY SONG: Cool by Jonas Brothers

Even you can’t ace everything. Right now, delegation is your friend at work, so have faith in others and get your breath back. Elsewhere, next week’s solar eclipse may affect kids. It’s nothing alarming, but keep schedules calm in the build-up. LUCKY PROGRESS: Swanlike

CANCER 21 Jun-22 Jul

SCORPIO 23 Oct-21 Nov

PISCES 19 Feb-19 Mar

You’re allowed to change your mind. A personal opinion challenged is actually progress, and will become more clear with next week’s solar eclipse. Elsewhere, silver is significant, perhaps a piece of jewellery. LUCKY SONG: The Voice Within by Christina Aguilera

Well, you do love a good distraction and this week provides it. Little blips at work are more entertaining than anything else. But take some gossip with a pinch of salt – and be aware that next week’s solar eclipse spices up things even more. LUCKY DISPOSITION: Chatty

Compassionate and loyal, family is vital to you. A magic Mercury aspect means togetherness revolving around your home, perhaps a celebration, and a past discord forgotten. For singles, a relative could turn matchmaker. LUCKY SAYING: It’s all relative

LUCKY EXPECTATION:

LUKE TROTMAN 4 JUNE 1997

MICHELLE KEEGAN 3 JUNE 1987

EMILY RATAJKOWSKI 7 JUNE 1991

CELEB SUDOKU Because doing it with

LONDON, 4 JUNE 2007

When Brian briefly got to be a judge and before the show had even aired, he was relegated – sorry, reassigned – as creative director. Brian has joked that his favourite memory of working on the show was “being fired”, and also said during his appearance on I’m A Celeb… that he thinks the whole thing was planned for publicity. We’re glad he stayed on as choreographer, though, or else we’d never have been blessed with 1D’s infamous “Where’s Zayn?” moment during dance rehearsals.

Fans of The X Factor will know that the talent show just isn’t as good without Louis Walsh. So, it’s no wonder the fourth series was a bit of a car crash when it came to the judging panel. After Louis “stepped down” from his role as a judge in 2007, Simon Cowell brought in choreographer extraordinaire Brian Friedman to sit alongside himself, Sharon Osbourne and Dannii Minogue. Sadly, Brian didn’t last long – it was rumoured that his harsh critiques made him unpopular,
