ABOUT ‘HELLO, FREDERICK’

Charm in everyday Frederick County

A Voted Frederick’s Best Event Venue Maryland’s largest lavender farm

bout 260,000 people call Frederick County home. And more are moving here every day. It’s easy to understand the attraction. Few places in the state can boast the array of amenities all in one place, enjoyed by residents and visitors here every day. People love the rolling farmland, the schools, the restaurants, the great places to work, and we agree. We think Frederick County is a wonderful place to live, work, learn and play. Frederick, of course, is the hub of the county, but the vibrant downtown is only part of the story. Frederick County spans 667 square miles and is situated almost equal distance between Baltimore and Washington, D.C. It’s home to charming, historic towns, as well as major employment centers. Here at The Frederick News-Post, we work every day to bring readers the latest in what’s going on in our community. But even we will admit that in our coverage of big stories, we sometimes don’t get to show the little things that make this place special. And that’s the premise of “A Day in the Life of Frederick County,” this year’s edition of “Hello, Frederick.” On Friday, June 18, 2021, we asked eight photographers to document 24 hours of life in Frederick County. From midnight to midnight, photographers worked in shifts and looked at the county from dozens of angles and visited just about every area in the county to tell the story of our dynamic community. Those photographers took thousands of images. The biggest challenge was to edit those images down to a manageable number for inclusion here. Our end result can be found on the coming pages, and even more photos from that day can be found at fredericknewspost.com. You’ll notice right away that this isn’t a compilation of sensational images of sensational events. That wasn’t the point. Our goal was to show the charm in the daily beauty of Frederick County. –Paul Milton, editor
