Creating art a part of life for sculptor Syd Ginsberg Much of Syd Ginsberg’s life has been dedicated to creating art, especially in the field of bronze sculpturing. Even as a young person, she knew what she wanted to do. Several of her pieces were on display at Galeria 19 Fine Art, 222 West Main Street, during the most recent First Friday Art Walk held in Fredericksburg. “I like watching people,” she said, adding that this is an inspiration for much of her art. While she uses any setting for her sculptures, she keeps returning to one basic theme. “I just like doing people,” she said. After studying art in high school, Ms. Ginsberg earned her college degree from the School of Art at Cooper Union in New York City. Her veins run rich in constructing sculptures, especially from bronze.

“I can’t imagine not doing this. I’ve always built things; I’ve always been an artist. The day I stop working is the day that I die.” The art done by Ms. Ginsberg comes from deep within her since early in her life. She admitted that her high school sculpture teacher would sometimes write a note so she wouldn’t get in trouble whenever she’d sneak into sculpture class during some other class period. Ms. Ginsberg came from a working class family in the Big Apple. “I worked in the day, attended art school at night, five days a week,” she said. Even during her fleeting moments of free time, she was ready to advance her knowledge of art. “I could always slip into someone’s sculpture class,” she added.

Retired teachers organization plans Monday meeting The Gillespie County Retired Teachers Association will meet at the Golden Hub Senior Center on Monday, starting out with a “meet-and-greet” refreshment time at 2 p.m. The meeting will follow the social at 2:30 p.m. Officers and committee chairmen are asked to come by 2:15 p.m. for a group picture. Co-hostesses for the event are Gladys Frels, Laura Wilson, Evelyn Weinheimer, Myra Klinksiek and Margaret Bierschale. The program will be about Fredericksburg and it relationship with its sister city, Montabaur, Germany. Speaker for the event will be Nelda Vogel. All retired public school employees in the surrounding Fredericksburg area are welcome and invited to attend.

From 1949 through 1988, the work of Ms. Ginsberg was on display at galleries and art society venues, including one-person shows in New York City, Connecticut and Dallas. She moved her studio to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico in 1988. Ms. Ginsberg travels back to the United States twice a year to visit with family members in North Carolina, New York City and Minneapolis. But the Lone Star State holds a special place in her heart. “I like Texas and I like Texans (because they’re) so very special,” she said, adding that the state and its people have welcomed her “with open arms.” Ms. Ginsberg’s work is represented exclusively in Texas by Galeria 19 Fine Art, owned and operated by Mary Frances Camp.

The Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post Wishes everyone a Safe and Happy Fourth of July!

THIS CRAFTSMAN MASTERPIECE displays distinctive stylistic features (11’ ceilings, large windows, deep-set porch, tapered columns, etc.) & retains most (if not all) of the original materials (tear-drop siding, tinners roof, long-leaf pine flooring, etc.). One br even features the colorful sheet vinyl that was all the rage in the 1950’s! Most striking is the feeling of openness by the tremendously high ceilings throughout. MLS #64832. $203,000
