Step Back in Time
Saint John River
Beaverbrook Art Gallery
Step into Fredericton’s past! Tour City Hall’s woven tapestries, the Clockworks, and see Freddy “the little nude dude”. The steeple of Christ Church Cathedral (1845) dots the riverfront skyline in Gothic Revival style. Along with Government House (1828) and the New Brunswick Legislative Assembly (1882), all are still in use today with guided tours daily. Boss Gibson’s Marysville, a National Heritage District, is marked by the looming brick cotton mill and row houses. Operating until the 1970’s, the mill is now home to government offices. History comes to life at Kings Landing Historical Settlement, just a 20 minute drive from downtown!
Gently winding through the centre of the city, the majestic Saint John River is alive with activity in the summer months. Stroll “The Green” past the Lighthouse on The Green to the Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge. Our former train bridge is now the longest pedestrian bridge in the world! Cross to Carleton Park and watch boats launch and enjoy the beautiful river sunset! Whether by kayak, canoe, guided boat cruise, or from the river bank, you are sure to be delighted! Don’t miss the opportunity to tour the Saint John river with Second Nature Outdoors.
Celebrate the wonder and magic of the visual arts! A very special season this summer: Masterworks from the Beaverbrook Art Gallery makes a homecoming stop on its North American tour! This monumental exhibition presents 75 of the most significant masterworks from the permanent collection by major artists including Dalí, Constable, Freud, Gainsborough, Carr, Sutherland, and many more. The exhibition is further enhanced with additional preparatory works and masterworks from the collection. Also this summer: Contemporary photography in New Brunswick. The Gallery’s permanent collection and works on loan to the Gallery are present.
