Changing of the Guard Ceremony and posting of the Sentries

With free entertainment, world-class art galleries, a science centre, a learning vacation program, over 88kms of trails, combined with the spectacular views of the river, Fredericton is a vacation hot spot. Spend time with friends and family searching for hidden treasures in Atlantic Canada's largest bilingual Geocaching Tour, relax at the Fredericton Botanic Garden, sing along with musicians in outdoor concerts, take part in an historical or cultural tour, or rock out at one of our amazing festivals! With a flash of scarlet and a skirl of pipes, history comes to life! The Canadian Army was born in 1884, with the establishment of the Infantry School Corps, Company “A” in Fredericton. Maybe you will be selected to “inspect” the guard! Ceremonies take place in Officers’ Square daily at 11am & 4pm, with additional ceremonies on Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm. Sentry duty changes on the hour at City Hall. July & August.

This 1 hour historical experience is geared towards children 4 to 12 years of age. Each child dresses in the red tunic of the British regiment and is provided with a guided tour of the Guard House, military office and cell block. Each child receives a souvenir photo. National Historic Site Located at the corner of Queen and York Sts., Fredericton’s City Hall is the oldest City Hall still in use in the Maritime Provinces. Visitors to the building can tour the Council Chamber to view the restored clockworks and a series of tapestries depicting the city's history, which are on permanent display. Open daily Mid-May - October. English tours daily at 9:30am and 3:30pm. French tours daily at 9am and 3pm or by appointment.

Beaverbrook Art Gallery Visit one of Canada’s most vital art galleries this summer and experience the wonder and magic of the visual arts. On view from June 13 to September 8, 2013, is a dynamic series of exhibitions, including Meditation – Transition, a major presentation of the luminescent paintings of Canadian artist John Ward, which highlights our integral relationship to nature through the common and elegant form of the leaf; Tributaries, an installation by New Brunswick ceramist and sculptor Darren Emenau that features both imagery and materials derived from a tributary of the province’s primary watercourse, the St. John River; and Where Go the Boats?, a selection of boat-inspired works from the permanent collection in a variety of media and by a diverse range of Atlantic Canadian artists, including Jack Humphrey, Alex Colville, Christopher Pratt, Stephen May, Anthony Flower, John Hammond, and Joe Norris. Did you know...? • The CN Bridge, renamed the Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge in 2008, at 581 metres (1906 feet) is the longest pedestrian bridge in the world converted from a railway bridge. • Hyla Park on the Gibson Trail, Canada’s first amphibian park, is home to 4 of 5 species of frogs, two of these living in their most northerly location. • The Trans Canada Trail Pavilion was erected on the south side of the Bill Thorpe Bridge and presently has over 3000 names inscribed on its tablets.
