SunMotion, new solar roofsystem | graduation project

grade 10

The research concerns two vital trends in architecture: the increasing demand for solar cells on buildings (EPC-standard 2020) and the increasing demand for natural light in buildings. For solar cells, direct sunlight is necessary and for diffuse daylight it is essential to avoid direct sunlight. By combining these two requirements, a new roofing system is developed. Because the triangular, white aluminum solar panels of the roofsystem move along with the sun during the day, there is both a constant, comfortable daylight level in the building, and a 40% higher solar energy production on the building. With the design for the Heros Daylight School on the Marineterrein in Amsterdam I would like to give an example how to integrate the new roofsystem. After my graduation I have been developing the system; in June 2017 I placed the first prototype in simplified version at a Van der Valk hotel in Germany. In the winter of 2017-2018 the first market-ready panels will be produced. The graduation project was nominated for the TU Delft Archiprix, won the StudentenStaalPrijs 2017 and the NRP Masterprijs 2017. More information: www.sunmotion.nl

in collaboration with Laura Langridge; first prize In September 2014 the Danish town Silkeborg announced a competition to design an urban plan with a new residence for the Asger Jorn Museum. The proposal is a multi-functional building along the river Silkeborg Langsø, intertwining urban and nature.

biomimetic facade | building technology

grade 8,0

The design task focuses on architecture from the perspective of technical building design: integration of structure, construction and product development. The biomimetic facade is a new (technical) design proposal for the existing EWI building in Delft.

tottenham hale station | design studio

high pass

The brief for the AA Programme 2015 design studio was to explore the regeneration capacity of Tottenham Hale in London, UK, and reconceive the site as a new station district located on the link Cambridge-Stansted-London. My studies on the existing performance highlighted clear inconsistencies, lack of fluidity and conflicting relations between infrastructure and movements through the site. The design proposal reconfigures the site to allow different users and infrastructures to cohabit.

The Millennium Bridge was a catalyst for the density of public flow to the Tate Modern. The open character of Tate Modern makes the interior spaces a part of the exterior public realm.

light of savoldo | media studies

pass

The assignment for Media Studies 2 was to make a analysis and re-interpretation of selected classical sources by using computational tools. I focused on the different lighting conditions of Savolo’s famous Mary Magdalene paintings. In the end the light conditions of the original sources have been transformed into engraved metal miniatures.
