the 101 returns In the early 1960’s, policemen still walked their beats and the postman walked his mail route. Of course they needed comfortable and sturdy footwear for the eight hours spent on their feet. Red Wing responded with style #101, a sturdy black oxford with a moldable insole. It could be polished to meet their uniform requirements, but tough enough for everything their day encountered. To promote the shoes, Red Wing began advertising using illustrations from Norman Rockwell. He is often referred to as the best-known American artist of the 20th century. promotional pieces, but he also was highly selective in which projects he chose to complete. Fortunately, Red Wing Shoes was an ideal match for his talents. Our boots were worn primarily by hardworking, everyday Americans. These same people were very often the subject of Rockwell’s heartwarming paintings. With a lighthearted and instantly identifiable style, his artwork was a reflection of America at the time. His illustrations for Red Wing Shoes told visual stories of the workplace and featured the tagline, “Wear Red Wing Shoes…for people who work.”

Classic Work Our Classic Work boots were built to withstand the rigors of hard work, on the farms or in the factories. A lightweight crepe sole with minimal tread pattern reduced the mud that could cling to a farmer’s boots. This white crepe Traction Tred sole would become a legend in the fields when used on Red Wing’s Irish Setter hunting boots. Later those same hunting boots were adopted by the workers who walked the high steel, building America’s sky scrapers. Today, these American classics feature the highest quality materials, craftsmanship and signature Red Wing leathers.

Classic Work Heritage Work boots are modeled after the styles that have made Red Wing Shoes famous for more than a century. The signature element of our heritage work boots is the Traction Tred sole. The wedge crepe sole was touted as non-skid and self-cleaning. Originally introduced in the early 1950s on the first Irish Setter hunting boot #877, it would go on to become famous from the small town grain fields to the big city construction sites. Farmers and upland game hunters loved the self-cleaning sole. It would keep the mud off their boots as they worked and walked the fields. The construction workers appreciated its nonskid performance as they strode the steel beams on high. A simple but elegant solution, the white Traction Tred sole would eventually make a pair of Red Wing boots instantly recognizable.

Classic Work Red Wing has always been focused on developing footwear that solved problems. Work boots that solved problems were sure to be big sellers and would instill loyalty in the workers that wore them. Two classic examples of Red Wing’s problem solving are our work oxfords and our round toe work boots. Our work oxford was built to meet the demands of factory managers and supervisors who needed a sturdy, comfortable work shoe but didn’t need the support or weight of a traditional work boot. So we built a heavy duty oxford shoe that employed our traction tred wedge sole. The combination gave management a work shoe that would be comfortable all day long in the factory or in the plant office.

Our round toe work boot was designed to solve the problem of work conditions that destroyed the toe stitches of a traditional work boot. A simple design solution using one continuous piece of leather on the toe eliminated the seams that could pull apart. Problem solved.

Inspired by our rugged work boot heritage, our Work Chukkas are casual in appearance but ruggedly handsome. They employ the EuroTraction Tred sole, premium Red Wing Shoe leathers and sturdy Goodyear welt construction. The result is a lightweight and comfortable casual boot that is uniquely Red Wing. In the construction trades, our Chukkas are the favorite boot of finish carpenters. Like the Red Wing brand, these carpenters are known for their craftsmanship and attention to detail. They appreciate the product’s durability, but the lightweight construction and soft outsole is perfect for their inside work with no heavy lifting.

The Chelsea Rancher boot was developed for American sheep ranchers. They needed boots that could be easily pulled on to get to the pasture quickly when their sheep were threatened. Today these same boots are made with premium soles and Red Wing Shoe Company leathers. Style No. 3140 WORK CHUKKA

Iron Rangers In far northern Minnesota lies the Mesabi Iron Range, a rugged and remote area from which iron ore was mined. The local residents proudly became known as Iron Rangers. The work boots they wore into the mines had to be as tough as the conditions. Red Wing’s Iron Ranger was built with a double layer leather toe cap to provide the miners an extra measure of safety. This capped toe design would be the precursor to the steel toe work boot. The outside heel pocket provided extra support for the miners as they stood on their feet for ten hours a day. Putting the heel pocket on the outside kept a smooth and comfortable one-piece surface on the inside of the boot. These boots are as impressive as they are rugged.

Pecos

Before the grain farmers could settle the area around Red Wing, the forests needed to be cut and cleared. That task was given to the hardiest of all tradesman; the lumberjacks. Our tall, lace boots with their Vibram outsoles, premium leathers and sturdy steel shanks were the perfect tool for working in the big woods.

America’s cowboys long preferred boots with western design and pull-on styling. Unfortunately most of the boots they wore couldn’t stand up to the day-to-day rigors of ranch and farm life. Red Wing Pecos boots were the first western boots to combine work boot durability with western styling. They would soon be worn on oil rigs, ranches, farms and job sites around the world.

Engineer The Engineer collection was originally developed for train engineers working on American railroads. The all-leather boot, pull-on styling and minimal stitching protected the engineer from the occasional hot ember that fell from the locomotive’s firebox, while the buckle added a touch of class to match the engineer’s status. Red Wing’s first engineer styled boot, number 919 appeared in the 1941 catalog. This style was advertised as a sporty pull-on boot for engineers, truck drivers, construction men, and stockmen.

During the early 20th century, the heyday of America’s industrial age, a main street businessman needed boots that could stand up to the muddy streets and then be quickly polished to make an impression at his place of business. Functional footwear with a touch of class soon became a necessity. However, all too often the available functional footwear sacrificed durability, comfort or style. About this same time, Charles Beckman was operating a successful main street shoe store in Red Wing, MN. He too recognized this opportunity for finely crafted, durable and comfortable footwear. Yet he grew frustrated at

Since its inception, The Red Wing Shoe Company has been located just a block away from the Mississippi River. The river has always been a major influence on our business. In the early days of our company, our newly made boots would be hauled by horse drawn wagons to the levee for loading onto steam boats for delivery to retailers up and down the river. One of the stops down river was Wabasha, a river city much like Red Wing. Established in 1830, Wabasha would become the first city in the Minnesota territory. Like the City of Wabasha, 170 years of experience are behind each inch of canvas that is handsewn into our Wabasha collection. Mohave is a premium, waterproof, reverse suede leather (referred to as “roughout”) originally designed to withstand the harshest field conditions. Its outer appearance provides texture, character and durability. Mohave provides excellent water repellency and superior resistance to stains.

Tanned in the tradition of Oro-iginal leather, Portage leather is a full-grain, performance leather that will withstand long wear. Being water, stain and perspiration resistant is what makes this heavyweight utility leather so versatile.

Muleskinner Leather

Rough & Tough Leather

As the name implies, this leather has the trademark toughness and durability of a Red Wing quality leather. Muleskinner leather is highlighted with a burnished look that has a visual texture and great appeal. There is an art to achieving this distinctive color and it possesses a high degree of utility.

Rough & Tough is a distressed pull up leather with an antiqued or mottled appearance that is designed to appear slightly worn - already broken in. No finishing pigments are used on this leather so the natural beauty shows through to add character.

Protect your Investment It takes more than 230 steps to handcraft each pair of Red Wing boots; it takes only three easy steps to keep them looking good. Because we use different types of leathers for our boots, be sure to have your customers follow the steps for the specific type of

leather used in their boots. As a reference, customers can refer to the product section of the Red Wing website to see each style and type of leather. The steps shown below are for oil-based leather. Please refer to the website for other types of leather.

LIMITED WARRANTY RELATING TO RED WING BRANDED FOOTWEAR

Defective Merchandise: Red Wing Brands of America accepts returns of defective merchandise. There is no prior authorization required. A return merchandise memo must accompany defective merchandise returns. The return merchandise must be shipped prepaid and via the most economical means. Transportation credit will be issued on defective merchandise and prompt credit will be issued on returned defective merchandise. Shipping Errors: Red Wing Brands of America accepts returns on merchandise that is sent in error. This product must be returned within 30 days of delivery. A return merchandise memo must accompany the return along with a copy of the invoice or packing slip indicating the returned shoe(s). Shoes returned without a packing slip will be returned to the dealer. The returned merchandise must be shipped prepaid and via the most economical means. Transportation credit will be issued on returned shipping errors and prompt credit will be issued. All Other Returns: No other merchandise returns will be accepted without prior authorization from your Red Wing sales representative. After authorization is granted, a return merchandise memo must accompany your return along with the original packing slip and the return authorization number from your Red Wing sales representative. Shoes returned without the return authorization number and the original packing slip will be returned to the dealer. A $10 per pair re-stocking fee will be charged on all authorized returns. Product Change Notice: Specifications are subject to change without notice.

Red Wing branded footwear products are warranted against defects in workmanship and materials. If within one (1) year of purchase, a defect occurs in a Red Wing branded footwear product as a result of normal use, as determined in the dealer’s sole judgment, Red Wing Shoe Company, Inc. (“Red Wing”) will exchange the product at no cost to the consumer. Red Wing may, at its option, issue a fair and reasonable credit that can be applied to the purchase of replacement footwear. The amount of the credit will be determined in the dealer’s sole judgment. Product failures caused by excessive or abusive wear conditions do not qualify for exchange or purchase credit. This warranty is available only to the original purchaser and is not transferable. No adjustment will be given without the original receipt of purchase.
